Here Are 5 Ways To Unwind And Take A Well Deserved Break From Adulthood

“Welcome to the real world. It sucks. You’re gonna love it”

- Monica Geller, Friends

Growing up, I was overawed by the idea of adulthood - living alone, managing your own money, freedom-max! But now that I’ve been awakened by the 9-to-5 adult life, never ending bills, small talk and hustle-culture, I can’t wait to crawl back into the comfy cocoon of childhood.

In fact, the last two years wreaked havoc on our creative sensibilities. With work from home and nowhere to vacation, we’ve been like a hamster on the wheel.

But no more! It’s time to kick back, relax and take a break from adulting. Wondering how to do it? Here’s our 5-step guide on breaking free from adulting and getting a brain break:

1) Don The Chef’s Hat

Cooking has emerged as one of the most therapeutic and emotionally rewarding activities. Had a long week at work? Make sure you (and your partner!) read a new recipe together, shop the ingredients and rustle up a delicious new delicacy.

2) Unbox, Unplug and Unwind with LEGO Bricks!

LEGO Bricks - the very word unbridles so many childhood memories! But hey, who decided there’s an age limit to building our favourite LEGO sets. There isn’t! In fact there’s a huge collection of LEGO sets aimed just at Adults! Cool right?

These colourful bricks pack a ton of benefits for grown ups too - helping you unwind and detox as you immerse yourself in the beauty of a build. The biggest satisfaction of these builds is to start from one humble brick and transforming it into any damn thing in the world - all the while having oodles of fun!!

Identifying myself as an AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO), I can vouch for the boundless creativity and joy that LEGO bricks bring along! Don’t believe me? Check-out what Brooklyn-Nine-Nine fame Terry Crews has to say -

The Holiday season is the perfect time to buy (or gift!) the joy of building and pride of creation to a loved one or a friend! And there’s something for every passion - From Super cars (Ferrari GTE, Porsche 911) to Star Wars (Boba Fett Helmet, Darth Vader’s Helmet) to even Manchester United Fans (The Old Trafford set) to music (The Grand Piano set) - so what’s not to like?

3) Take Yourself On A Date

While a routine outing includes sharing pleasantries and dressing to impress, one must realise the power of a solo date. Walk to a closeby book store, spend time amidst the old school charm, get yourself a book and discover a new cafe! Pamper yourself, get engrossed in a new book, or just try a new dish - the power of self love is unparalleled.

4) Learn A New Language

The advantages of learning a new language are plentiful - it improves our memory, enhances our multi-tasking capabilities, encourages creativity, among other benefits, At the core of it, the process of learning a new language helps us detach from our daily stressors and get involved in learning a new skill. It’s self rewarding!

5) Meditation

Cliched but extremely essential - meditating everyday extends the calm, balance and peace our body so desperately needs. It helps us connect with our inner selves, manage work stress better and keep our energy levels optimised, so that we can be our best selves for friends, family and work.

While these were our top 5 ways to break from work stress and adult life, my all-time favourite hobby is getting creative with LEGO sets. Want to join team AFOL (adult fans of LEGO)? Click here to explore the complete collection of LEGO sets available on Amazon.
