Desi Men Confess Things They’ve Kept From Their Parents Because ‘Abba Nahi Manenge’

Most Indian parents, who have this unparalleled entitlement on their kids, prove time and again that they are the real gangsta in the house. Well, not just their house, any house you’re living in until they’re alive. Many believe that they let their boys do whatever they want (hello, male privilege) but some men would like to disagree

Desi parents are strict, even the cool ones and this is why we all have some secrets hidden from our parents

But while some rules might be different for sons and daughters, men raised by desi parents have confessed to hiding the most basic and trivial things about their life because ‘abba nahi manenge’ or ‘nahi samjhenge’ to be more precise.

Men on a Reddit thread recently discussed things they hesitate in sharing with their parents and some of these are really surprising.

1. Pursuing Higher Education In 30s

2. Being Vocal About Political Opinions On Social Media

“That I write (or have written in the past) stuff on social media that could land me in trouble, legal or otherwise. My parents learned that I drink, learned that I eat meat and transitioned to being on board all of those ideas. They just shouldn’t know that when they see someone being beaten by neta’s chamche or cops for a social media post, it could have been me.” –LampardFanAlways

3. Spending Habits

“How much I make, how much I spend and how much I eat outside.”

4. About Sexuality

5. Going On A Solo Trip

"That I'm going to get a promotion and my salary would increase... That I'm going on a solo trip next week."

6. Relationships & Mental Health

"Everything personal. Relationship, Spending habits and Especially issues with mental health because they never get it."

7. Having Alcohol

“I've had a beer. I can tell that to my dad but my mom will get the person who bought me beer into trouble. And I haven't told that a girl hit on me in school.”

Some of these are common and relatable. I mean, who in their sane mind would tell their conservative parents that they drink, smoke or have an active *** life.

However, what’s surprising is that these men, fully grown adults (married even) cannot come clean about them getting into a college at the age of 30 or tell them they are going on a solo trip.

For those who think men enjoy gender privilege in India, this thread is proof that even the sons keep their love life, career, salary and travelling habits a secret from their parents.
