MS Dhoni turned back the clock with a fighting half-century that saved Chennai Super Kings (CSK) the blushes in the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni came in to bat when CSK were reeling at 61 for five but he put on a fine partnership with the new captain Ravindra Jadeja to bail the team out. Thanks to Dhoni's unbeaten fifty, CSK managed to reach a respectable total of 131 for five.
Dhoni added 70 runs with Jadeja as he brought up his first half-century in three years. Thanks to Dhoni's knock, CSK managed to make a match out of a contest in which they looked down and out from the very first over.

Dhoni relinquished captaincy days before the start of the IPL and gave the reins of CSK to Jadeja that left the cricketing fraternity in shock. However, the way Dhoni has started with the bat for the Men in Yellow will give the defending champions a lot of confidence.
Seeing Dhoni smash the bowlers all over the park at the Wankhede stadium, a venue where he led Team India to their second World Cup title, got fans nostalgic and they flooded Twitter with appreciation posts for the former CSK captain.

Despite Dhoni's vintage knock, Kolkata Knight Riders got the better of the defending champions as they chased down the 132-run target with nine balls to spare.
The loss doesn't mean the end of the world for CSK as they have plenty of games left to make a comeback and now with Dhoni in form with the bat, they will be looking to turn their fortunes around in the upcoming matches.

One thing that this Dhoni innings has done is shut down his doubters who were skeptical about his contribution with the bat as the veteran wicket-keeper batter doesn't play any competitive cricket apart from the IPL.
The Men in Yellow will be bolstered by the availability of their star all-rounder Moeen Ali for their next game that will be against Lucknow Super Giants on March 31.
