It's that time of the year where Google officially unveils its brand new operating system for the Android platform. Most of the features that were talked about today are already available for testing if you've enrolled yourself in the developer preview.
Android P at the moment is in beta and we've been playing around with it on the Googe Pixel 2. There are some key updates that need your attention. The most stand out feature coming to Android is the latest gestures that are very much influenced by the iPhone X.

Ever since full-screen displays have become popular amongst Android smartphone manufacturers, the need for a seamless experience has increased. Google have now removed the Back, Home and Recent buttons and will now use gestures similar to the iPhone X.

There's now a pill-shaped icon in place of the home button and users can simply tap it to take you home. Swiping up from the middle of the screen will launch the multitasking interface. The back button will only be shown if there's something wrong on the screen, for example, an App freeze or when you're on the overview screen (new multitasking screen).

A long press on the pill-shaped home button will launch Google Assistant whereas a slightly swipe up will open the overview screen. Swiping through apps works almost exactly how it does on the iPhone i.e. sliding to the right. This will basically change the interface of most Android smartphones and for early adopters, it is rolling out to 11 different phones for public beta.
