The Final PlayStation 5 Design Will Look Nothing Like What We've Seen So Far And Here's Why

So far we have no idea on what the PlayStation 5 will look like, but it has been confirmed that the toilet seat-like design doing the rounds of the Internet is indeed the design of the devkit. Devkits are prototypes of an upcoming console that house all the hardware developers need to know about, to develop games for the new console. In the past, production versions of the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 or any other console for that matter haven't ended up looking like their devkits.

Up until now, we've mostly seen renders of the PlayStation 5's devkit. However, an actual photo of the devkit was leaked on Twitter and YouTube. It looks almost identical to the renders we've seen so far, but that's not indicative of the actual product gamers will be able to buy next year in any way.

We all know what the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation looked like but these devkits tell a different story. While they look bulky just like the PS5 devkit, the final product borrowed only a few design aspects from the devkit. Here are some images below that you can see for yourself and identify the design aspects that were borrowed for the final product.

Similarly, the PS5 may not look exactly like the leaked devkit, but we do think that the final design may incorporate the “V” design in some way. It may be used to signify that this is the fifth PlayStation console as “V” also stands for five in the roman numerical. Interestingly, the upcoming PS5 will be compatible with older-gen games and won't come cheap.

We aren't sure when Sony will reveal the PlayStation 5 to the public as the company did not attend E3 this year. The PlayStation 4 was revealed at E3 2013, a few months before its launch and we could see something similar this year. Sony may show us the new console either on E3 next year or at their own “State of Play” event a few months before the launch of the console.
