Ever since the lockdown began, reports of police punishing rulebreakers have gone viral - from lathi charges to more lenient penalties.

Things work differently in Indore, however. As social media stands divided on the issue of police brutality vs. lockdown violators, one inspector decided to make things a little more interesting.

In a rather unusual case, Indore TI Amrita Solanki, who took on the position earlier this January, has decided to let lockdown violators be the executor of their own punishments - instructing one lockdown violator to smack the other using the policeâs own lathi.

As the head of central Indoreâs Sarafa police station, Inspector Solanki isnât new to stressful situations - she made headlines back in 2013 when posted as a sub-inspector in Rajgarh district for resigning in protest to the callous and arrogant behaviour of a poll observer - who flew off the handle when Solanki stopped his vehicle for a routine inspection.

Madhya Pradesh has been hit hard by the coronavirus - over 1,540 cases have been documented in the state.

Meanwhile, social media went up in arms to support and call out her actions.

Several users felt that the move was a form of poetic justice, and that the violators deserved to be taught a swift lesson in social distancing.

Others questioned the validity of her actions - expressing disappointment and citing the punishment as a âterrible exampleâ set by the Indore police.

While TI Solanki hasnât made a statement for her actions, weâre sure to see more escalations of this kind as the lockdown continues and both citizens and the police vent their frustration at each other.
