For a team that had, in their last game, recorded the highest successful run-chase in the tournament's history, Rajasthan Royals (RR) have set the expectations so high in the Indian Premier League (IPL) season that every time they come out on the field, fans expect them to win in style.
But, contrary to popular perception, Steve Smith's men were cut a sorry figure by a rampant Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) side who romped their way to a convincing 37-run win. Chasing 174 runs, Rajasthan were bundled out for 137 runs with their explosive batting order witnessing a rare off day.
While Rajasthan endured their first defeat of the season, Kolkata made the most of their outing in Dubai - all thanks to their young guns. It was young Shubman Gill's brilliant knock of 47 runs that laid the foundation of their competitive total. And then, the likes of Shivam Mavi (2-20) and Kamlesh Nagarkoti (2-13), of India's Under-19 fame, played a key role in putting the brakes on Rajasthan's chase with their bowling effort.
