We’ve already covered how fast and powerful the iPhone 12 can be when compared to other smartphones. We even covered how great the phone is underwater, thanks to its water resistance rating. However, one feature Apple touted as the new “Ceramic Shield” display, protects it from dings, scratches and screen shattering more than ever. While many assumed it’s just another marketing gimmick, turns out it’s way more than that. The iPhone 12’s durability was tested with multiple drop tests and the results were quite intriguing.

Both the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro were dropped from different heights i.e. waist and head level. These heights are probably the most likely scenarios where most drops can occur. The glass did not experience any cracks, however one can expect damage to the metal frame on both phones depending on the angle the phones can fall at. It is worth pointing out that even though the outer screen did not experience any damage, drops can cause internal damage to displays, especially OLED screens. No matter how sturdy and durable the iPhone 12 might be, it is not indestructible and it is still recommended to use the phone with a case and a screen protector.
Having said that, the drop test proves that the iPhone 12’s Ceramic Shield is not just a marketing gimmick. Having said that, the video does show the Ceramic Shield can crack when dropped from higher levels. In the video, we can see the screen glass and the back panel would break when dropped from a height of 10 feet.
