3 Strong Points Vivek Oberoi Made To Prove He’s Never Benefited From The Tag Of A Star Kid

Ever since Kangana Ranaut ignited the debate around nepotism in the Hindi film industry, the conversation has uni-dimensionally shifted to how Bollywood is unfair to people with no film connections and gives extra benefits to the star kids. Well, Vivek Oberoi doesn’t agree with the common notion that every star kid is born with a silver spoon.

According to him, he chose to carve his own path in the film industry, even though he had a famous father, Suresh Oberoi. In an interview with Hindustan Times, he put forth three strong points to prove that he never benefited because of his father.

1. Vivek clarified that the debate around nepotism doesn’t affect him because he doesn’t relate to the concept. He said, “The nepotism debate doesn’t irritate me for the simple reason because I’ve never looked at myself as somebody who tried to kind of benefit from my dad. I don’t identify with it but I can understand why people are angry about it.”

2. He also said that he has never taken the privileges that were given to him for being the son of a popular actor. He said, “Right from the beginning, I didn’t take that silver spoon, which was being offered to me in the form of a grand launchpad. I struggled on my own. He’s a great father, my friend, my guide, and critic, but I’ve always been very independent. After the age of 15, I never took money from my father; I started earning, doing radio being a voice-over artist and people didn’t know whose son I was.”

3. Vivek believed in making his own way and he did what a normal person would to make a career. “I’ve done everything from sweeping the dance floor, to bringing tea to everyone to being a back-up dancer. I’ve had that journey and I have no regrets because that gave me real values. My dad brought me up that way,” he added.

On the professional front, Vivek Oberoi is a part of a talent hunt show to find the next Bollywood star because he believes the “biggest stars in Bollywood came from outside and they’ve contributed so much to the industry. That’s why I like doing this talent contest and introduce new talent.”
