Even with a global pandemic taking over literally every single person's life, this year has truly been the year of boycotts, at least, here in India.
From companies to movies, to actually the entire Bollywood industry, we've seen an attempt to boycott possibly everything on Twitter.
And, with everything going on, and every small detail being scrutinized by the public, there is no tolerance left. Scratch that, misogyny and sexism will always be tolerated here, but that's beside the point.

What I'm trying to say is that so many movies have been boycotted for pretty minor things as well, and looking back at Bollywood movies over the years, it's hard to believe that they were not only released but also went on to become huge hits.
There are a few movies, in my opinion, that would have just been a boycott hashtag if they were to release this year, and that's a fact. So, here's a few of them:
1. Rang De Basanti

First strike, Aamir Khan. Second strike, questioning the government and politicians.
We all know that this fictional movie would have been taken personally by a lot of people and they would have assumed it was a shot at the government.
We all know this movie's trailer would have had a million dislikes on YouTube by certain followers.

While this movie is a classic, the only genuine problem it has was showcasing the 'white saviour complex' but that wasn't a problem for people then, and it wouldn't have been today as well.

Again, a fictional movie that some people would think hits way too close for comfort and they would end up unleashing their wrath on it.
Even though Amrish Puri's character was obviously not based on a real person, people would get offended because if the shoe fits, it fits.

Suing God? In this economy? Even Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal wouldn't have been able to save this movie in 2020.

The movie would've trended with a boycott hashtag for 'hurting religious sentiments'. People would've questioned 'why only Hindus are targeted?'
I can guarantee this movie would have been ripped to shreds considering today's environment.
4. Veer Zaara

An iconic Bollywood love story or 'love jihad'? Depends on the year you watch it.
Honestly, I don't even have to say much more about it, it really ends with this.

Same story, different movie. Again, this would've been considered 'love jihad' and no amount of handpumps ripped out of the ground by Sunny Deol would've changed that.

But, I can see this movie may be getting a free pass because of the fiery 'Hindustan zindabad tha, zindabad hai aur zindabad rahega' dialogue.
