Outraged At The Treatment Of Farmers, Ex Sports Stars Decide To Return The Awards They Received

As the farmers' protest gets bigger and bigger, more and more people are joining them in this revolution and it's the kind of unity you don't see every day.

The farmers are on the frontlines braving cold, water cannons, tear gas, among other things to fight for their rights and there's nothing but respect for their resilience.

To show solidarity with them, a bunch of respected former sports stars have come out and are protesting against the government in their own way. In order to show support to the farmers, a group of top sportspersons and coaches from Punjab have decided to return the prestigious awards bestowed upon them.

This group includes Olympic hockey player and Arjuna awardee Sajjan Singh Cheema, wrestler and Padma Shri awardee Kartar Singh, Olympic gold medallist hockey player Gurmail Singh, and former Indian hockey captain Rajbir Kaur.

All of them have decided to go to Delhi on December 5th and place their awards outside the Rashtrapati Bhavan. I don't think I've seen anything as badass as this, genuinely.

Particularly angry at the use of tear gas and water cannons, Sajjan Singh Cheema said, "We are the children of farmers and they have been holding peaceful agitation for the past several months. Not even a single incident of violence took place. But water cannons and teargas shells were used against them when they were going to Delhi."

He added, "If the turbans of our elders and brothers are tossed, then what will we do with our awards and honour? We are in support of our farmers. We do not want such awards and that is why we are returning the same."

Saying that they are also trying to contact sportspersons from Haryana, Kartar Sing added, "If farmers do not want such laws, then why was the central government imposing on them."

The country needs to pose a united front as the nation stands in support of the people who literally ensure that there is food on our plate everyday.
