Former Australian captain and Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting broke down the biggest weakness that Indian opening Test batsman Prithvi Shaw had just moments before the youngster gave up his wicket for a duck on the second delivery that he faced.

"If he does have a chink in his armour it's the ball which does come back into him… Quite often leaves a big gap between bat and pad and that's where the Aussies will target," Ponting said on commentary alongside Sunil Gavaskar mere seconds away from Mitchell Starc scalping the stumps with a beauty.

The fact that Ponting has been and hopefully will continue to be Prithvi Shaw’s coach during the Indian Premier Leagues season, definitely has a lot to do with him being able to read the Indian athlete’s batting posture.

Having played and won at the highest level of cricket for more than a decade has its perks. Ponting’s prowess at reading the opponents’ weaknesses, the ‘chink in their armours’ as he likes to call it, show exactly why he is so valuable not just to Australian cricket, but internationally as well.

On the other hand, Prithvi Shaw’s bad form continues to haunt the Men in Blue as the selectors are being blamed for being overconfident in the presumed Indian prodigy’s capabilities.

Shaw’s unimpressive time in the middle during the four innings that he played in the two practice matches against Australia A with the score reading 0, 19, 40 and 3 respectively, also had the fans frowning when they saw his name in the Playing XI that BCCI made public one day ahead of the match.

The criticism also has to do with the fact that yet another opening youngster, Shubman Gill had performed promisingly with relatively better scores of 0, 29, 43 and 65 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
