Olympic winning boxer Vijender Singh had earlier said that he would return the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award if the PM Modi-led government did not agree to the demands of the farmers who are protesting against the new farm laws.

“If the government doesn't withdraw the black laws, I will return my Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award," said the boxer, who won the first-ever Olympic medal for India in the sport in 2008.

Singh had also joined the farmers' protest at the state's border with Delhi at Singhu. He said, “I come from a family of farmers and Army men, I can understand their pain and anxiety. It is high time that the government pays heed to their demands.”

However, earlier today, people started to trend #विजेंदरअवार्डवापस_कर and slammed him for his 'fake promises', as the year is almost coming to an end and it seems like he hasn’t lived up to his own words.

People started to remind him of his statement as he has not initiated the process, so far, let alone returning the award.

Recently, the boxer had also questioned the silence of Bollywood on the farmers' protest and called them 'spineless'.
