2021 Budget Has Removed Some Key Duty Exemptions & Smartphones Are Getting More Expensive Now

The budget for 2021 is live now and we know now the kind of financial changes our country will implement to recuperate from the pandemic that left a massive dent in the economy. Without getting too much into detail, in this story, we just wanted to highlight that we might have to pay more for smartphones going forward.

That's right, the smartphone prices are about to increase in India so if you are planning to buy one then we suggest you do it as soon as possible because the Union Budget 2021 has made the decision to remove the exemption on some parts of chargers and smartphones. This has done in order to promote the β€˜Make-In-India’ movement.

The finance minister revealed the same during her budget speech where she mentioned that they're withdrawing a few exemptions on parts and chargers with some parts of smartphones. The elimination of exemption would affect specific parts used inside a smartphone like the Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA), Camera module, and connectors.

The center is also cutting the basic customs duty rate on nylon chips and nylon fiber. There's also a plan to increase customs duty on parts of mobile chargers from nil to 10 percent.

All this is definitely going to make smartphones more expensive than they already are in India in comparison to some other countries. This is indeed a bummer because smartphones are more useful than ever now with the necessity of staying connected during these tough times.

We're not entirely sure as to how much of an impact this will have on the smartphone prices, but we'll definitely learn more about it soon as we're just getting started with the smartphone launches. In addition to smartphones, it looks like other electronic appliances like refrigerators and air conditioners are also expected to get more expensive.

Again, we don't know have much info about the new prices, but we'll keep an eye out for them and revert with more info. In the meantime, if you are looking to buy a new smartphone, then here are some good options to check out.
