Looks like Rahul Gandhi, too, is foraying into the world of making headlines for seemingly unrelated and unpolitical matters! As you might know, Rahul Gandhi is currently on a visit to Tamil Nadu for election campaigning. But as one is wont to do on any worthwhile trip, he also took the time to partake in some touristy (and not-so-easily-touristy) activities over the last few days. From competing with a student in a battle of push-ups and trying out local delicacies to jumping straight into a river, the trip has been quite adventurous for the Congress leader!
The headlines have been in quite a tizzy, talking about everything from Rahul Gandhi’s abs to his mingling with locals.
If you’re wondering what exactly happened… well, have a look yourself. His trip so far has covered all the bases pretty well:
1. From sports…Apparently he has a black belt in Aikido, as this kid found out.
Did You Know Shri @RahulGandhi has a black belt in Aikido?
Here he shares some of his moves with a student from St. Joseph's Matric Hr. Sec. School, Kanyakumari.#TNwithRahulGandhi pic.twitter.com/B51uzqTsZ0
Here’s him accepting the challenge of a round of push-ups, and then proceeding to one-up the “Judo enthusiast” student by performing a one-handed push-up.
Shri @RahulGandhi doesn't back down from any kind of challenge.
This push up challenge by Merolin Shenigha, a 10th standard Judo enthusiast is one such example.#TNwithRahulGandhi pic.twitter.com/4ZV6D7IGyv
2. …to Culture…
Watch Rahul Gandhi dancing along with students, to cheers of “Rahul! Rahul!” by the MC.

He also enjoyed the acrobatic performances from the students of St. Joseph’s Matric Hr. Sec. School.

3. …to even Adventure!
Yup, he went on a fishing expedition with a popular vlogger who runs the channel Fishing Freaks, leaving the nation stunned at his abs and demanding his fitness routine.

Of course, the public being the public had to have felt some way about this, with the jury still out on whether the reception was largely positive…

Of course @RahulGandhi is super fit! But whether it's swimming with the fishermen or dancing or pushups with young students, it is about connecting with & understanding people through shared activities. ️ pic.twitter.com/0ZU76zCkuY
— Ruchira Chaturvedi (@RuchiraC) March 1, 2021After the abs picture went viral, @RahulGandhi demonstrates how fit he is. RaGa in a push-up challenge by with 10th grade student Merolin Shenigh.
He seems to have mastered social media game right now.Impressive, eye catching stuff. Also that girl is amazing ️ @manickamtagore pic.twitter.com/vScFMPrRII

— Gaurav Pandhi (@GauravPandhi) February 26, 2021Or, well, something like this:
Is this an MTV Roadies audition, @RahulGandhi? pic.twitter.com/uPSp6rKeI8
— Ishita Yadav (@IshitaYadav) March 1, 2021Rahul Gandhi behaves like a traveler in his own country- his meeting with people and participating in activities looks very inorganic, like there's no connect and he's surprised at the exoticness of natives.
— hooman (@foodonmymind) March 1, 2021Now I'm strong: I can jump, I can do push-ups.
Vote for me. You can read about my number of push-ups in our manifesto.
For each vote, I’ll do one push-up & two nursery rhymes https://t.co/CaQ9B0bPkZ
Ummm.
Is he competing against Ramdev or Ranveer? pic.twitter.com/KD9GRMTDLy

And finally, this gem that I can’t quite make out if it’s one or the other:
Really yr I respect rahul ji. Politicaly not that much but if had rahul ji in my friends circle it would be the most loved person in all.

What is your take on this? Like it, hate it, want the nation’s leaders to just stick to politics?
