When the top-order involving some of the best batsmen in international cricket failed to deliver for the Indian cricket team in the first innings of the fourth and final Test of the England series, the burden of keeping his side alive fell on the shoulders of Rishabh Pant.

Other than a 49-run stint by opener Rohit Sharma, names like Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara and skipper Virat Kohli were unable to have any impact on India’s scoreboard, and after vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane’s wicket fell in the 38th over, the Men in Blue looked in a tough spot while being at 80/4.

This is when Pant, a middle-order hitter, walked down to the pitch with the expectations of his teammates and billions of fans from all over the world attached to him and his bat.

It was imperative that the wicket-keeper batsman played a long and impactful innings, after all, the chances of making it to the finals of the World Test Championship depended on it.

While aggression with the bat was important, proper planning was of the essence, and according to Rishabh Pant, he executed the planning bit to the tee.

However, Sharma wasn’t completely convinced.

At the end of Day 2 in a video shared by the official Instagram handle of the Indian Cricket Team, the ‘Hitman’ could be seen taking a casual interview of the centurion with his 100-run partner Washington Sundar sitting by his side.

Talking about his mindset while batting, Pant was talking about how he was assessing the pitch and was planning the shots according to the bowlers and the need of the hour.

He was then quickly interrupted by Sharma who asked “Do you really do so much of planning? Do you assess the pitch and all that?” with a cheeky smile on his face.

Sharma then went on to talk about Pant’s tendency to be extremely vocal while keeping the wickets, to which the glovesman said that he likes to “enjoy his cricket” and how he wishes to motivate his teammates.

Fans of the Indian cricket team and those of Pant and Sharma absolutely loved the banter between the two big-hitters and showed their love for the two on Twitter:

There's so much inclusive leadership trait on display in the way @ImRo45 carries this conversation. Absolute pleasure to watch!
