The drama surrounding the British royal family has gripped the world so much so that even those who wouldn’t normally care have been weighing in and forming opinions. Just recently, Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah in a CBS Special had shook the world with bombshells after another.

And though the wonder over the royals’ net worth is nothing new, many were left confused after Prince Harry revealed how they had ‘struggled financially after being financially cut off from the palace.’

The confusion is easy to understand, with the amount of misinformation floating around about the couple. 

“Aren’t they, like, super rich?”

“Didn’t his mom and great-grandmother leave him a lot of money?”

“Hadn’t they signed huge deals for millions of dollars with Netflix and Spotify?”

Well, yes. Except for the part about his great-grandmother leaving him money in her inheritance (which is false, according to Forbes), all of this is true. But the catch is that, apparently, all those deals were made to help them with their financial and security worries and weren’t actually a part of the plan.

"Our life is great now. We've got a beautiful house. We've got a - I've got a beautiful family. The dogs are really happy. But, at the time, during COVID, the suggestion by a friend was, 'What about streamers?'” Harry had said. "We hadn't thought about it. So, there were all sorts of different options. And, look, from my perspective, all I needed was enough money to be able to pay for security to keep my family safe."

The couple is now estimated to have a joint net worth of $10 million according to a Forbes report, certainly far from the estimates of $25-40 million in 2019 for Harry alone.

Their five-year Netflix deal is worth over $100 million and their three-year podcasting deal with Spotify could be anywhere between $15-18 million, however it’s unclear whether they have received any checks or advance for these yet. The couple also seem to be looking into public speaking engagements, represented by the Harry Walker Agency.

As for Harry’s inheritance, he had reportedly received $10 million from his mother, Diana, without which he said they “would not have been able to do this.”
