Yes, in the incident which occurred this past week in Kanpur city of Uttar Pradesh, the bride and groom had both arrived at the wedding ceremony and even carried out the 'jaimala' (exchange of garlands) ceremony in front of the guests and families.

However, just before the main wedding ceremony, the groom suddenly was nowhere to be found.

While both families searched for the groom everywhere, it was later found out that, instead of being missing, he had decided to flee his own wedding.

Upon knowing the case, the bride and her family were left distraught, after which one of the guests suggested that the marriage should instead go ahead with another man.

Soon after, the bride's family searched and found a boy they thought would be suitable for their daughter on the spot.

After the families agreed to the alliance, the wedding ceremony went ahead successfully, however, a complaint against the groom and his family was later lodged by the bride's family.

"We have received a complaint in this regard from both the bride and groom sides. While the bride's side has sought suitable action against the groom and his family members, the groom's father, Dharampal, in his complaint, has sought police help to trace his missing son. Investigations are continuing in this regard." said Inspector Narwal, Shesh Narain Pandey.
