A few days ago, PETA tweeted urging India’s leading dairy producer to switch to the production of vegan milk instead of cattle milk which sparked a huge debate among netizens.
Those in favour of the proposition made by the NGO said it could be great for the emerging market and veganism should be encouraged.
However, those against the idea called for a ban on the organisation citing employment of dairy farmers, culture and traditions of India and more.

After the controversial tweet by PETA, Amul responded by saying that the company is responsible for the livelihood of 100 million poor farmers and it isn’t willing to use its resources to produce “genetically modified Soya of rich MNC at exhorbitant prices ,which average lower middle class can't afford.”
This came from the MD of GCMMF, R S Sodhi who got massive support from Twitterati for his response.
Peta wants Amul to snatch livelihood of 100 mill poor farmers and handover it's all resources built in 75 years with farmers money to market genetically modified Soya of rich MNC at exhorbitant prices ,which average lower middle class can't afford https://t.co/FaJmnCAxdO

Now, the vice-chairman of Amul, Valamji Humbal has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to impose a ban on the NGO citing numerous reasons from how it is “an attempt to break the Indian dairy sector”, which plays a huge role in the GDP, to synthetic milk being a 'foreign conspiracy'.
He released a statement where he urged the PM to initiate necessary action against PETA.

In the release, he said, “Dairy sector is an important contributor to the GDP of India but the GDP can be affected adversely by misinformation spread by opportunistic elements like this NGO. Organisations like this are part of the conspiracy to render unemployed the milk producers of India.”
“To ensure that such organisations stop their activities in India, milk producers of Gujarat urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to initiate necessary action to impose a ban on organisations which are engaged in condemnable activity of tarnishing the image of dairy industry through misinformation campaign and then harm them by encouraging plants of multination companies producing synthetic milk,” he added.

PETA India’s CEO Dr Manilal Valliyate responded to Hambal saying “Amul has shown itself to be a bully, unable to appreciate the public’s concern for animals, and a business that apparently cannot change despite changing consumer trends. But no amount of bullying is going to change the fact: vegan eating is taking the world by storm.”

Twitter remains to be siding with Amul on the matter and are calling for the NGO to be banned.
However, there were some who thought that Amul wanting to ban an organisation over a tweet is a bit extreme. Here is what Twitter users have to say.
Banning is no solution.
Unwanted bans lower country's perception in foreign lands.
We supports him, PETA is trying to confuse Indians on their traditions and culture,
He should be banned#banpeta #AmulPrideOfIndia
This crazed request to curry favor is obvious, but makes us a laughing stock in the eyes of the world
— Ranjan Chacko (@ChackoRanjan) June 2, 2021This man gets perturbed over a suggestion and calling it an international conspiracy,hmm...he might be having information about the. Kgb, CIA, mossad being involved with the Pakistani Isis spearheading the move,oh come on do not.mske us .....in front of the world
— Ranjan Chacko (@ChackoRanjan) June 1, 2021PETA has no logic and no work hence trying to kick up a controversy. The PM should take note and take action on PETA for forcing Amul to produce what they don't want to. Well there will be other milk farmers outside Gujrat who can produce ....They can ask them to do it.
— Niranjan Rao (@Revati071) June 1, 2021PM Modi, who was the longest-serving chief minister of Gujarat for over 12 years, has praised Amul on various occasions.
While inaugurating Amul’s chocolate plant in 2018, he said, “Today, Amul has become an inspiration world over. People from overseas also ask me about Amul. Amul is not only about milk processing. This is an excellent model of empowerment.”

The PM is yet to respond to the request made by Amul VC.
