There can be many legitimate reasons to call off a wedding and walk away. The groom’s family demanding dowry, the groom reeking of alcohol, or his lack of basic education. However, sometimes, the reason to call off a wedding can be downright bizarre.

A groom from Odisha’s Keonjhar district called off his wedding when the baraatis accompanying him were not served mutton at his wedding. What’s more, is that the groom then got married to another woman from the same village where the wedding was supposed to take place, before returning to Keonjhar.

The groom, who has been identified as Ramakant Patra by local news agencies, reached Bandhagaon village in Sukinda on Wednesday this week, to get married to the girl his parents had selected for him.
Like all Indian Baraatis, in all Indian weddings, they too were fashionably late to the wedding venue. During this time, the Bride’s family proceeded to start the lunch service for their guests.
In spite of the baraatis being fashionably late, the bride’s family welcomed them with great pomp, and then proceeded with the rituals. Once a part of the rituals was done, the groom’s guests were invited for lunch.

Before the lunch, the baraatis had “requested” that they were served mutton curry. However, once they were seated for lunch, they realised that mutton wasn’t on the menu, even after their request, they got into a heated argument with the bride’s family, and started dissing the arrangements that were made.

At this point, the groom too got involved in the tussle and finally called the wedding off. The groom’s family tried to persuade Patra but in vain. Soon, Patra and his family walked away from the wedding venue, and went to one of their relative’s house nearby, to spend the rest of the day.
Here’s where things get interesting. That same evening, Patra got married to a different woman from the same village, without much pomp, in a rather understated manner.

The first bride’s family, obviously did not take this well. However, local police say that no complaint has been registered by the family.
If anyone wanted proof about just how weird and wild Indian weddings can be, this is a great example.
