  1. All the franchises have gone through several changes ahead of IPL 2022. The eight existing teams were only allowed to retain a maximum of four players which made it difficult for them to get hold of all their star players. Given the auction dynamics, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) also had to part with talented players like Devdutt Padikkal, KS Bharat, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, among others. View this post on Instagram Sundar, who missed the second half of the season last year due to a finger injury, was bought by SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), for a whopping Rs 8.75 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction last month. For the last few seasons, the Chennai all-rounder was at the RCB where he shared the dressing room with the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell. View this post on Instagram One would imagine that settling into a new franchise would take some time for any player. Seems like Sundar has made this transition pretty smoothly and is not missing his old franchise even one bit. His response to whether he missed the RCB or found SRH better has angered the loyal supporters of the Bengaluru-based outfit. Oh Washington. Veedu mana Greeku Veerudu. #OrangeArmy #ReadyToRise #TATAIPL pic.twitter.com/n0zXm3u6AC — SunRisers Hyderabad (@SunRisers) March 18, 2022 Sundar’s cheeky reply came when his new teammate T Natarajan asked him “So do you miss RCB, or is this better?” “This is very good,” the all-rounder replied which made many RCB supporters furious. Some were so pissed that they thanked the RCB management for not retaining an ‘unloyal’ player like him. Play well otherwise you will also face the David Warner fate. — NPS (@Nps2022) March 19, 2022even RCBians will not miss you...shabaz is better than you...RCB is for loyal ones, and you dont have that — Bharath Kumar (@Bharath__gowdru) March 18, 2022@RCBTweets always are known for its loyal fanbase and i am so glad that RCB has not retained such an unloyal player....@Sundarwashi5 — Hari Krishna.G.N (@harikrishnagn) March 20, 2022Shame on these two players And washi we don't miss you anymore @Sundarwashi5 a team like rcb backed you all these years and you showed the way how to respect them absolute shame on you — Bajiomotty (@Bajiomotty1) March 18, 2022I thought Rcb Made Mistake By leaving you... Noo They r Correct — ಹೆಸರಲ್ಲೇನಿದೆ ಬಿಡಿ (@Naneyidupakka) March 19, 2022Just like that, he is not even in the consideration for rcbians, not a loss to us. His statement shows how much intent he had in contributing to the team, to win the trophy. — Pandu_B_01 (@Nayak01Pandu) March 19, 2022There are many benefits of social media but the negativity like this is its biggest drawback. The RCB fans must realise that IPL, at the end of the day, is a business where emotions can’t dictate every decision you make. Before criticising Sundar for his light-hearted response, the RCB supporters must not forget that it was their franchise that parted ways with the all-rounder. The franchise didn’t raise its paddle even once at the auction for the 22-year-old. View this post on Instagram How can you expect him to sing laurels for the management which discarded him completely? It’s natural that he is trying to establish a connection with the SRH supporters before making his debut for them. View the full article
  2. With just a couple of days to go for Virat Kohli to play his 100th international Test cricket match, one of his Delhi teammates from back in his Ranji days, talks about the kind of will and dedication that makes him continue to strive for more and remain one of the elite cricketers in the world today. 16 years ago in 2006, it was another winter morning when a young boy of 17 had suddenly turned into a man. The Delhi lad Virat Kohli was preparing to go to the ground to bat in the Ranji Trophy match for his team. And then he received the earth-shaking news that his father had lost his life due to a brain stroke. The sky came crashing on the young boy. This could be one of the biggest losses for a boy of his age. @imVkohli playing 100 Test matches is testimony to his hardwork and dedication towards the game: @Jaspritbumrah93 #TeamIndia | #INDvSL pic.twitter.com/6yh13WWkJ3 — BCCI (@BCCI) March 1, 2022 It was the third day of the match and Delhi was going through a precarious situation. Virat had to resume batting with his teammate Punit Bisht. Virat’s father’s lifeless body was placed on the floor of his house waiting for the last rights to be performed, the entire family was in shock and utter grief. One can only imagine the fury of the typhoon that must be brewing inside that 17-year-old boy. "To this day I wonder, how in the world did he muster the courage to drop in at the ground. We were all numb at his tragedy and here the boy was standing in the dressing room and ready to go out and bat," said Punit during an interview with PTI. Virat Kohli will be the 71st cricketer to play 100 Test matches. He'll also become 12th most capped Indian Test player surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin. — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) February 28, 2022 "Mind it, his father's last rites hadn't been performed and he had just come because he didn't want his team to lose a batter as we were not in a great position," he added. And then suddenly that young boy turns into a responsible man. Like a soldier, Virat decided to keep his personal feelings at bay and do what his duty was. He decided to go to the stadium and bat for his team. This is the stuff that a cricketer called Virat Kohli is made of. This is his dedication to cricket that has made him the real ‘Virat’ cricketer that the world today admires not only in India but in all the cricketing nations across the globe. I wish to see that , King scores his 71st 100 in his 100th test match and became the 71st player to play 100 test matches. All the best King #ViratKohli𓃵 #viratkholi @imVkohli pic.twitter.com/N9x0X5ibbf — Virat Kohli fan (@virat_kohli18vk) March 1, 2022 On 4th March 2022, Virat Kohli will play his 100th Test match for India. That day he will enter the elite club of Indian cricketers who have played 100 or more tests for India. Till now only 11 Indians have got the honours including Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar. Kohli will join the legends on the 4th of March when he enters the stadium in Mohali. Kohli fans have been raving about Kohli and the fact that he will be playing his centurion Test in India. However, due to the COVID-19 protocol still set in place, only a 50% stadium capacity crowd will be allowed to enter the Mohali cricket ground and join Kohli to celebrate this wondrous occasion with him: So happy to hear, Finally the 50% crowd will be allowed in Mohali to witness the 100th test of Virat Kohli. #ViratKohli | #KingKohli | @imVkohli https://t.co/pLVlNLmwNppic.twitter.com/GF6tc72bdO — Shivam Jaiswal (@7jaiswalshivam) March 1, 2022Playing 100 test is what unfit players can only imagine of, they can't even dream about it but here's Virat Kohli who's making it look easy #AllowCrowdinMohali pic.twitter.com/Y8eOMNtYiG — Aman (@CaptainKohli___) February 28, 2022He’s the only 12th player from India to play 100 Tests. We sometimes feel jealous of the fame and money that they earn. But, we forget to appreciate the hard work and the amount of pain they undergo to reach the place where they are at present. We do not hesitate in criticizing them to the point of abuse if they fail even once forgetting that after all they too are humans like us. The entire nation has been eagerly waiting for Virat’s 71st century that has been playing hide and seek for more than 2 years now. We wish he achieves this feat in his 100th test match. Indian and world cricket will see many more players come and perform in the arena. But, finding another Virat will be the toughest thing to do. View the full article
  3. Ever since the beginning of the Indian Premier League, one of the biggest narratives of the tournament is how the Royal Challengers Bangalore have somehow managed to not win even a single title despite being one of the 8 founding franchises in 2008. When a team goes through such a slump, it is commonly the fault of the back office that is responsible for creating a roster and filling it with players who can combine their efforts and win a trophy for their city. View this post on Instagram However, in the case of the Bengaluru squad, even that was taken care of (and continues to be taken care of even today) as some of the biggest names of international cricket like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell have been a part of the team but have failed to convert their greatness into championship wins. Still, during a podcast for the RCB, the former captain of the team, Virat Kohli spoke about how the ‘game changer’ for the team took place when they brought onboard the former South African captain and one of the most fierce batters in all of cricket, AB de Villiers in 2011. The RCB also managed to add the legendary Chris Gayle in the middle of the 2011 season. With the sudden boost to their batting lineup, the Royal Challengers, led by the former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori managed to make it into the final of the 2011 season where they were absolutely dominated by Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings. After batting first and scoring a whopping 205 runs in the first innings, CSK were successful in restricting Vettori’s men to a minimalistic 147 runs and ended up winning the championship by a 58 run margin. Ever since the 2011 season, RCB have only managed to make it into the finals just once in 2016 where they once again found themselves to be on the losing side as David Warner’s SunRisers Hyderabad won the game by 8 runs. It is because of RCB’s failure to win titles despite having successful cricketers in their arsenal that fans were not completely convinced with Kohli’s ‘game changer’ comment and started trolling the former skipper for it: And then this Happened pic.twitter.com/x1KNFAZSpS — ᏞᎧᏦI (@ImLokii45) February 4, 2022Still lost to their father CSK — Venky (@Charan_1402) February 4, 2022Imagine RCB without ABD Guy literally carried them for years — Kaygee18 (@Kaygee1803) February 4, 2022it's unbelievable how they still couldn't win had one of the best batting line ups. yes, bowling wasn't that good, but with that T20 batting line up, u r expected to win any tournament. — abraham (@ydisskolaveridi) February 4, 2022Before 2011 - No Trophy After 2011 - No trophy Game changer — John Reese (@ragul_vjfan) February 4, 2022It's funny how they haven't won anything after having the best team in so many seasons . — taniya (@Tsr200308) February 4, 2022 View the full article
  4. As children, we have had a very simplistic view about our superheroes and villains. Superheroes would always be righteous, the ones who were good. Villains on the other hand were always bad, people who had pure evil in their hearts. © Marvel Studios After we grew up, we realised that such things aren’t always black and white, that there are no clear cut boundaries. We realised that some of our favourite heroes were not always heroic, and that some of our villains were not exactly villains. © Warner Bros Here we take a look at a few of such villains who weren’t just pure evil, but were merely misunderstood, and victims to certain unfortunate misadventures. We take a look at villains, who probably would have turned out to be completely different and “good” had they received some mental health support, in a timely manner. © Warner Bros Now, we won’t include characters like Snape, from Harry Potter, even though he is one of the most misunderstood characters in pop culture. The reason for that is how Snape’s story ended, that he had to portray himself as a baddie, and the fact that he was perhaps the greatest hero in the Potter Universe. © Warner Bros We also will not include characters such as Arthur Fleck’s Joker, because they are a bit obvious, and mainly because Fleck wasn’t exactly a villain, but an antagonist. © Warner Bros 1. Thanos © Marvel Studios Oh, the way people rejoiced when Thanos dissipated into thin air at the end of Avengers: Endgame. However, we believe that he is a character that we ought to be feeling sorry for. Here was a man, trying to revive a dead planet, his home, who had to sacrifice the one other person he truly loved, his daughter. Surely, had Thanos received some form of counselling, he would have turned out to be different. 2. Bane © Warner Bros Christopher Nolan’s Bane, again, was presented majorly as an out and out villain, who just wanted to wipe off a corrupt city. However, we do need to keep in mind the fact that Bane was in immense pain, constantly. We also have to acknowledge the fact that Bane had to deal with major abandonment issues. He was first abandoned by his own parents, then by the League Of Shadows, an organisation or a family that he gave everything to. Ra’s Al Ghul was certainly like a father figure to him, who eventually abandoned him. You’ve got to feel sorry for such a guy. 3. Loki © Marvel Studios Even if we disregard the Loki series, we have to feel sorry for Loki. Here was a boy, who was adopted, and was always in the shadows of his elder brother. To make matters worse, he was constantly reminded of the fact that he was adopted and did not really belong with the people that he was living with. On top of that, imagine having a childhood, where you know you are one of the wisest and most clever people around, but still are treated like a doormat. Anyone would have gone bonkers crazy like him. 4. Draco Malfoy © Warner Bros One of the most pitiful figures that we get from the Potter Universe is Draco Malfoy. Yes, he was problematic at times, but most of the vices that he had were because of his family values. On top of that, he had the pressure of living upto the Slytherin name, the legacy of the Malfoy family, and of course, the fact that his parents were death eaters. As if all of this isn’t enough to drive him off a cliff already, he then gets selected by the most powerful evil wizard of all time, Voldermot, to kill off not just his professor, but also, another equally powerful wizard. 5. Joker © Warner Bros There is a very popular fan theory about the origin of Christopher Nolan’s Joker. According to the theory, the Joker started out as a vigilante who had a bad run with some goons. The Joker believed that certain criminals had to be killed off, because the justice system was just not competent. He believed that Batman had to start killing, so that he can truly save Gotham. Also, the Joker had a really abusive father and an abusive wife. If all this is indeed true, you come to appreciate the Joker even more. 6. Eric Killmonger © Marvel Studios Eric Killmonger in Black Panther is another character that was very misunderstood. He lost his father at a young age, he lost his mother to the prison system in the United States, and was abandoned by his community. And to make things worse, he grew up as an orphaned black man in the US. All he ever wanted was a sense of belonging and to empower people of African descent all over the world. Basically, he wanted to fight racism, the way the actual Black Panthers, the political group in the 1960s, fought racism. 7. Ra’s Al Ghul © Warner Bros As a character, Ra’s Al ghul is as grey as they come. He lost his wife, almost lost his daughter, and had the pressure to literally save humanity and civilisation at all cost. Not just that he lost one of his dearest friends in Bruce Wayne, and had to excommunicate his best student, Bane. Seriously, all of this is a lot to handle. Moreover, Ra’s Al Ghul rightly believed that Gotham was irredeemable - no matter how hard one tried, Gotham would always be at the centre of greed, crime and corruption, and pollute everything around it. 8. Magneto © Sony Pictures Finally, we have the most misunderstood character of all time, Magneto. Sure he did some pretty horrible things to humans. However, we have to appreciate the fact that he has always been very careful while fighting mutants, even if they were trying to kill him. There must have been countless occasions when Magneto could have just crumpled up Wolverine like a paper ball, And yet, he never harmed him mortally. Furthermore, when we learn about Magneto’s backstory as Erik Lensherr, and the trauma that he had to face as a Jew in Nazi Germany and the concentration camps in Poland. Such was his trauma that even Charles Xavier couldn’t help him. Also, the fact that he was right at the end, that humans would eventually hunt down mutants, just goes on to show that Erik was wildly misunderstood by everyone. View the full article
  5. It’s no secret that most men are often misjudged and misunderstood. The same goes for the men in reel life too. I mean, the characters who are seemingly the bad guys. However, not all bad guys in movies are sadistic villains. Some are just real and flawed like most of us. © Yash Raj Films There are some male characters who we all got wrong. We passionately and unanimously loathed them because we were probably so blinded by the charm and sob stories of the main lead. However, after growing up and being a bit flawed ourselves, we realized that they were actually not that evil and had a reason to be the way they were. © Vinod Chopra Films Here are five male characters who were disliked by everyone but in fact, are real and highly misunderstood. Anshuman from Jab We Met © Studio18 Okay, hear me out. Anshuman was Geet’s boyfriend who used to sneak her out from her hostel and for all we know he never really promised to marry her. It was all in Geet’s head and the good guy Aditya even validated the fact that she was impulsive. © Studio18 If a guy had shown up at a girl’s place and declared he had run away just to marry her, he would have been thrown out by her entire family. And talking about him ditching her, what did Geet do to him in the end? That’s right! Narayan Shankar from Mohabbatein © Yash Raj Films Everytime I watch Mohabbatein, I hate Raj more than Narayan Shankar. In fact, Narayan Shankar was actually not that bad. He might be a bit strict but he loved his daughter and grieved her loss. © Yash Raj Films It was Raj who portrayed him as heartless and even blamed him for his daughter’s death. Who does that to a grieving father? Also, he was the principal of an esteemed boy’s boarding school. What do you expect him to do if his students broke hostel gates and went to eve-tease girls on Holi? Subodh from Dil Chahta Hai © Excel Entertainment We never wanted to be Subodh or date a Subodh or have him as a friend because he was stuck-up, the human form of a time-table. But now that I think of it, he was a terrific boyfriend who genuinely cared about Pooja. © Excel Entertainment He remembered important dates, took her to romantic dinners and even tolerated Sameer who was trying to steal his girl. Meanwhile both Pooja and Sameer mocked him behind his back. Subodh deserved better. Dr J. Asthana from Munna Bhai M.B.B.S © Vinod Chopra Productions Yes, the way he insulted Munna’s parents was entirely wrong. However, he was not that evil. He is misunderstood. He was running a hospital and maintaining the decorum as the dean while dealing with a gangster who cheated on an exam and now danced in the OPD to treat patients? © Vinod Chopra Productions Can you really blame him for being mad? Ask any real-life doctor and they would side with Dr. Asthana as well. We got him all wrong. Chatur Ramalingam from 3 Idiots © Vinod Chopra Films We’ve all met a ‘Chatur’ while we were in school. Sometimes, it was our friend who would backstab us to get good marks. But do we really need to hate Chatur? He was a teacher’s pet but at least he was better than Rancho who was involved in an identity fraud, almost got his friends expelled (while he topped all exams) and even made Chatur’s speech a disgusting rape joke. © Vinod Chopra Films If you want to hate someone, hate Rancho. 6. There can be many legitimate reasons to call off a wedding and walk away. The groom’s family demanding dowry, the groom reeking of alcohol, or his lack of basic education. However, sometimes, the reason to call off a wedding can be downright bizarre. © iStock A groom from Odisha’s Keonjhar district called off his wedding when the baraatis accompanying him were not served mutton at his wedding. What’s more, is that the groom then got married to another woman from the same village where the wedding was supposed to take place, before returning to Keonjhar. © iStock The groom, who has been identified as Ramakant Patra by local news agencies, reached Bandhagaon village in Sukinda on Wednesday this week, to get married to the girl his parents had selected for him. Like all Indian Baraatis, in all Indian weddings, they too were fashionably late to the wedding venue. During this time, the Bride’s family proceeded to start the lunch service for their guests. In spite of the baraatis being fashionably late, the bride’s family welcomed them with great pomp, and then proceeded with the rituals. Once a part of the rituals was done, the groom’s guests were invited for lunch. © iStock Before the lunch, the baraatis had “requested” that they were served mutton curry. However, once they were seated for lunch, they realised that mutton wasn’t on the menu, even after their request, they got into a heated argument with the bride’s family, and started dissing the arrangements that were made. © iStock At this point, the groom too got involved in the tussle and finally called the wedding off. The groom’s family tried to persuade Patra but in vain. Soon, Patra and his family walked away from the wedding venue, and went to one of their relative’s house nearby, to spend the rest of the day. Here’s where things get interesting. That same evening, Patra got married to a different woman from the same village, without much pomp, in a rather understated manner. © iStock The first bride’s family, obviously did not take this well. However, local police say that no complaint has been registered by the family. If anyone wanted proof about just how weird and wild Indian weddings can be, this is a great example.
