Man Credits Apple Watch For Saving His Life After Serious Fall That Could Have Caused Brain Damage

A man is crediting the Apple Watch for saving his life after suffering a serious fall. The 25-year-old Brandon Schneider is a Peloton sales specialist and someone who is quite active. Besides hiking and riding, Schneider runs five to six times a week and has four marathons under his belt.

Much like other fitness buffs, Schneider tranced his health and progress on his Apple Watch and now also credits it for saving his life. "I would certainly say that the Apple Watch helped save my life," Schneider told ABC Chicago

He decided to go to the hospital to get a check-up after he was suffering from severe abdominal pain for days. "This seemed different than anything I really have experienced in the past, and I was in excruciating pain," he said.

He was accompanied by his father who said that during the visit Brandon was only in there for a few minutes when he lost consciousness. "I remember washing my hands and thinking to myself, is something going to happen," Schneider said. "I don't remember falling to the ground, or hitting my head, or anything of the events that followed.”

His father was away to the bathroom when Brandon fell and fortunately, within seconds his Apple Watch alerted his father who was nearby. "My Apple Watch detected a hard fall, and I did not respond to the like haptic message that requires a response and 45 seconds," Schneider said.

Because of the fall and the alert, his father immediately got a hold of the hospital staff. After CT scans it was revealed that along with a fractured skull, Brandon had life-threatening hematomas and had to undergo emergency brain surgery.

"And so if I if I weren't in the that in the ER at the time that this occurred, chances are, we might be telling a different story," he said.

The doctors said that Brandon was incredibly lucky as with each and every minute passed, the damage to the bran could increase. It was one of those injuries where the doctors had to approach and get to the surgery as soon as possible to prevent further damage.

"Those who have an Apple Watch, may be able to set up their emergency contacts, which I don't know what sparked the idea in me sometime before this incident occurred to make sure I had that setup, but I want to encourage people to do that," he said.
