What is the easiest way to find a partner when you think you are finally ready to get hitched? 

Some would say signing up on matrimonial sites helps or asking your friends and family to find you a match is the best way or maybe, go to a marriage broker. However, a man in Kerala took matters into his own hands and it worked so well that we think his way is genius.

Unnikrishnan, a 33-year-old shopkeeper in Vallachira district of Kerala, put up a matrimonial ad for himself outside his shop to find himself a partner because he didn’t want anyone else to meddle (which we totally get, BTW). 

Talking about this out-of-the-box way to get a match, he said, “I used to be a daily wage worker. I also underwent surgery following a tumour in my skull. As I recovered fully after the surgery, I thought of settling in life," he was quoted by the New Indian Express.

“This led me to open a lottery shop near my home in February. After some days, I set up a tea shack, which too is getting better these days. Now, all I want is a life partner, but I don't want to go through the traditional style of approaching a broker, waiting to get matching horoscope etc,” he added.

So, he decided to put up a signboard instead. “My friends and family members had already searched on my behalf, but no match happened. Thus, I thought of hanging a signboard in front of my tea shack,” he said.

His friend shared his picture with the signboard on social media and it went viral. What came next was his phone started blowing up with calls from people who were intrigued and extended him a marriage proposal. 

Interestingly, he even got calls from Australia and England. “I got phone calls from Malayalis living in far off countries,” he told a leading daily.

He even got some calls from people who appreciated him for his ‘no caste or religion’ rule, while others simply rang him up to wish him all the luck in finding a partner. 

Funnily, some contacted him to find a match for them and were willing to share their details with him, but he refused.

This seems like a brilliant move to find a partner yourself without any relatives or brokers meddling. 

It’s great that he got numerous calls from interested people while we can’t even find a match on Tinder, with a full-blown profile. Maybe we should try this signboard thing, too.
