Cadbury Recreates Iconic Dairy Milk Ad & Hits 90s Kids With Nostalgia, But There’s A Twist

Ads in the 90s were the coolest.

Actually, everything in the 90s was cool, be it music, movies or chocolates. It was hands down the best era and all of us 90s kids have special sentiments for that decade.

Obviously then, if anything from that golden time makes an appearance in our dull adult life, we are instantly excited and also, nostalgic.

You are not a 90s kid if you don’t remember the classic ads such as the 1993 Cadbury Dairy Milk campaign titled ‘Asli Swaad Zindagi Ka’ which had all cricket fans dancing to the tune of ‘Kuch Khaas Hai’ song.

In the original 40-second long ad, it shows a woman in a cricket stadium biting into a Dairy Milk chocolate as the cricketer on the field is about to hit a century. And when he does, she runs to the ground and starts dancing to celebrate.

In case you forgot, here is the ad to jog your memory.

The ad has now been recreated after almost three decades by Cadbury and Ogilvy, the ad agency which created the OG ad.

It has been shot frame-to-frame and even the background score is the same.

That’s right, the same song which we hummed along every time the ad came on our TV when we were kids. However, there is an interesting twist to the new ad. Instead of the woman dancing for the male cricketer, there’s a man this time who cheers for a woman cricketer.

The ad, although remade and entirely cloned from the 90s ad, is a breath of fresh air as it celebrates and encourages women cricketers.

While the nostalgic play instantly strikes a chord, the twist is a strong message that women’s sports and players deserve equal recognition and a stadium full of people who cheer for them.

People on Twitter lauded the brilliant ad for its thought-provoking concept and creativity, not to mention the fact that it manages to hit us all right in the feels.

In 1994, Ogilvy India made an ad for #Cadbury Dairy Milk.
In 2021, Ogilvy India made the same ad for Cadbury Dairy Milk, with a difference!
