Was Akshay The First Choice For This Role In 'The Kashmir Files'? Producer Reveals Truth


The Kashmir Files, helmed by Vivek Agnihotri, has turned out to be a huge success and is still performing well despite stiff competition from SS Rajamouli's RRR. Featuring Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles, the film depicts the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits during the Kashmir insurgency in 1990.

Amid the huge acclaim for its heart-wrenching storyline and powerful performances, the latest buzz suggests that Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar too was approached for Darshan Kumar's role in The Kashmir Files. Yes, you read that right! Now the film's producer Abhishek Agarwal has reacted to the ongoing buzz. 

Talking to Bollywood Hungama about rumours of Akshay being approached for the film, the producer cleared, "Akshay Kumar was not approached for the film"

Sharing details about Darshan's casting, he added, "As for the role Darshan plays, we had shortlisted a few names, but Vivek was like, 'I want this guy to play this role' he was very specific. So we brought Darshan on board".

Seeing the record-breaking success of The Kashmir Files, many people have questioned the makers if they plan to share the profits with the victims, the Kashmiri Pandits.  

Reacting to it, Agarwal shared, "No, we have no plans about donating any amount from the profits. That is because when we were making the film we never thought that it would be so big. So we did not really even consider this option".

For the unversed, The Kashmir Files has turned out to be the biggest hit among the post-pandemic releases. The film is expected to enter the Rs 250 crore club soon. 

Post The Kashmir Files, Agnihotri will now start working on the third and last film in the 'Files' trilogy titled The Delhi Files. As per reports, it is supposed to be based on the right to life
