From Google Glass to Snapchat Spectacles, we've seen a lot of smartglasses in the past. But none of them managed to peak people's interest, mainly due to their appearance. I mean, who wants to be the guy/ girl wearing some weird glasses with cameras on them, right?
Well, Huawei says that its new pair of smartglasses are different from the others. In fact, the company has partnered with eyewear maker Gentle Monster to develop a series of smart glasses in variously different frame designs. Yes, that's how you know that the company is onto something here. We got our first look at the product yesterday when the company also launched the new P30 series phones.March 26, 2019
Looking at the short video that Huawei played during the presentation, the company's eyewear seems more like a Bluetooth headset than smartglasses. You can use them to make or receive calls, listen to audio from the phone, and more. They showed a man and a woman wearing the glasses and talking to a voice assistant to get information. Huawei's glasses don't even have things like the projection screen, camera, etc., which makes them look like any other normal pair of glasses.
Besides talking about the eyewear's aesthetics and poking fun at Google Glass and Snapchat Spectacles, Huawei didn't share much about the device. The only thing we know so far is that these glasses are IP67 rated, which means they can be submerged in shallow water for a short time, they charge up wirelessly, and have NFC to connect with the Gentle Monster case that'll ship with the device.
Sadly, we don't even know how much these would cost, but I expect them to carry a hefty price tag when it arrives in July.
