Here's All We Know About India's First Visually Challenged Woman IAS Officer Who Just Took Charge

The loss of vision as a child didn't dissuade this woman from Maharashtra to follow her dream to become an IAS officer.

Pranjal Patil became the country's first visually challenged woman to become an IAS officer and took over as Sub-Collector in Thiruvananthapuram, on Monday.

She told The Hindu in an interview, “We should never be defeated, and never give up, I feel extremely glad and proud to be in Thiruvananthapuram.''

Pranjal Patil secured the 124th rank in the 2017 Civil Services Exams and she was posted as Assistant Collector in Ernakulam, Kerala, in 2018.

She lost her vision at the age of six but didn't let that get in the way of her dreams. She said, “We should never be defeated and we should never give up because with our efforts all of us will get that one breakthrough which we want.”

“I have just been transferred to Thiruvananthapuram. I will take time to understand the district, look into the various departments and then chalk out a plan of action,” she added.

Goes without saying that the entire nation is proud of her and her incredible achievement and here is what they want to say:

I'm sure that she'll emerge as a very sincere, result oriented and, most importantly, empathetic IAS officer.
Let people not give her any differential treatment except ensuring effective communication. @IASassociation@DCsofIndia @TheBureaucracy_#IAShttps://t.co/PAKNc4ln1y

https://t.co/4JRsyNDH6K Very proud of Pranjal, a fellow Xavierite. I remember being her writer for a few exams when she was in Senior College. An exceptionally bright student then, and I am sure she will be great in her position in TVM.
