Samsung's Next Flagship Phone Could Be Called 'Galaxy S20' And Could Mark A Big Change For 2020

Samsung usually launches a new Galaxy flagship every year in February and we are only months away from the official release of the next Galaxy S series smartphone. Most people would assume that the next smartphone would be called “Galaxy S11”, however it seems like Samsung is going to ditch the annual nomenclature and instead call it the Galaxy S20.

This information comes from renowned Samsung leaker Ice Universe on Twitter who tweeted "Galaxy S20, Next year is 2020, and 20 is a new beginning." Ice Universe has been accurate with leaks in the past and this new naming scheme could turn out to be true given the reasons behind it. It seems like the start of the new decade would also mark the inception of the Galaxy S20.

Smartphone companies tend to jump numbers when naming their smartphones as Apple never released an iPhone 9 and instead jumped straight to the iPhone X. Similarly, Samsung also never released the Galaxy Note 6 and jumped to Galaxy Note 7 even though it didn't work according to the plan in the end.

Having said that, skipping to Galaxy S20 might be confusing to many consumers if the messaging is not on point by Samsung. Regardless of what it is called, the Galaxy S11 or S20 will be packed with powerful specifications if the rumours are to be believed. It is rumoured to come with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865 processor and 5G capabilities. In terms of cameras, the next flagship is expected to come with 108MP primary sensor and other cameras for different modes.

Sooner or later, these specifications will be confirmed when the smartphone launches in February. It remains to be seen whether Samsung will call it the Galaxy S11 or Galaxy S20.
