Microsoft Has Revealed How Powerful The Xbox Series X Will Be And The PS5 Could Be In Trouble

Microsoft has taken a lead when it comes to showing off the next generation of consoles. Last December, the company showed off what the console looks like and last night, detailed a lot of its hardwareâs capabilities. Microsoft confirmed some of the most important details that we needed to hear and one of them was that the Series X is capable of pushing 12 teraflops for GPU performance.

This confirmation means that the Series X will be twice as powerful as the Xbox One X that launched during the middle of this generationâs cycle. In comparison, the Xbox Series X is capable of having the same performance as mid-range GPUs from Nvidia.

âXbox Series X delivers a true generational leap in processing and graphics power with cutting edge techniques resulting in higher frame rates, larger, more sophisticated game worlds, and immersive experiences, unlike anything seen in console gaming,â said Xbox chief Phil Spencer via a blogpost.

âRather than spending GPU cycles uniformly on every single pixel on the screen, developers can prioritise individual effects on specific game characters or important environmental objects,â explains Spencer. âThis technique results in more stable frame rates and higher resolution, with no impact on the final image quality,â said Spencer.

Xbox Series X can also support 8K resolution and up to 120 frames per second in games. The console will come with HDMI 2.1 which means it has support for Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). This will drastically reduce the latency and input lag when using a compatible monitor or TV.

Xbox Series X will also be using a custom CPU based on AMDâs Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA 2 architecture. It will have an NVMe SSD that will drastically reduce load times and improve the overall performance of the game. Apart from the hardware reveal, the Series X will also let users play multiple games at the same time without suspending the application. It is called âquick resumeâ and will let users resume multiple games right where they left it.

Now that we know various details about the Series X, Sony still remains silent about the PlayStation 5 and has not revealed much about the console. A recent (now deleted) rumour on 4Chan claimed that Sony has still not decided the final design of the console and is going behind schedule. Sony wants to sell the console this holiday season, however they are yet to show the final design of the PS5 and we are fast approaching the month of March. The novel coronavirus outbreak has also affected Sonyâs production output in China which may also play a role in the price and the availability of the console.

Sony does not have much time left to unveil the console and with Microsoft breathing on Sonyâs neck, the Japanese company has no choice but to unveil the console soon enough to garner enough interest.
