There were rumours that Apple is working on a new pair of AirPods that will borrow some design elements from the AirPods Pro. However, we may now have more evidence of the leak as 52audio shared an image of what they claim to be the alleged design of the upcoming popular wireless earphones. From first glance, we can see it isn’t the entire earphone’s picture but it does show enough to back previous leaks.

The new “AirPods 3” looks very similar to the design of the AirPods Pro according to the leaked image. It shows the top part of the wireless earphones and the enclosure cover of its charging case. 

The image corroborates last week’s Bloomberg report that Apple is coming up with new AirPods models sometime in the near future. These earphones are set to replace the current second-generation AirPods as their cheapest offering. Noticeably, the AirPods 3 will have a shorter stem and replaceable silicone ear tips. Apple is also looking to improve the battery life of the earbuds in comparison to the current AirPods models.

Even though the new AirPods will borrow design from the AirPods Pro, it will lack the active noise cancellation feature. Other rumours have suggested Apple is working on a new AirPods Pro model as well with much smaller shape.

It isn’t clear when Apple will debut the new AirPods, however Bloomberg suggests Apple will unveil them sometime in 2020. Previous rumours suggested that Apple might be removing the stem entirely and use a design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Buds. However, with this leak, we can say that isn’t true unless Apple decides to change the design before launch.
