‘Don’t Question His Honesty’ Rishabh Pant Playing With Heavily Padded Arm Proves His Sincerity

Rishabh Pant’s injury has become a big point of discussion in the latter half of the Border Gavaskar Trophy especially after he played the best red-ball innings of his international career in the second innings of the Sydney Test.

Taking a blistering Mitchell Starc delivery to an unprotected left elbow while batting in the first innings of the previous Test, Pant was in visible pain and ended up throwing his wicket because of not being able to focus properly.

Rushed to the hospital for scans and medical assistance shortly after, Pant had to sit out during Australia’s second batting innings and was replaced by Wriddhiman Saha behind the stumps.

Under any other situation, Pant might not have been given the permission to be on the field considering the severity of his injury however, due to the evident loss of players and lack of good enough talent to even build up a decent Playing XI, the 23-year-old continues to play.

Pictures and videos from Day 1 of the Gabba Test shows a loud and vocal Rishabh Pant keeping the wickets and keeping the morale of the rest of his teammates high. He is having fun, chatting with the Australian batsmen and is doing a good enough job gloving the ball so far.

What nobody seems to notice is exactly how heavily padded up his left arm is.

Underneath his white uniform, Pant’s elbow is guarded tightly which can restrict the movement of the arm extensively, while making the wicket-keeper’s job so much more difficult. But the man doesn’t seem to be complaining.

Even then, there have been certain fans on the opposite side of the pitch who continue to call him out for being a cheat and for faking injuries to get out of trouble.

Weird to see him out there with the gloves. Guess it's probably harder to fake an injury before you bat

But feigning injury so you can sub in a better keeper and then going out to bat 5 is well within the spirit of the game.
