Here’s Why I Prefer Playing Games Only On The iPhone 12 Instead Of Any Other Smartphone

The iPhone 12 and even past iPhone models are probably the best portable gaming devices that one can buy right now. I’ve often compared it to the Nintendo Switch in the past and that’s because the smartphone has better hardware than the Japanese gaming console. To get the full experience, I recently purchased the Razer Kishi for the iPhone that essentially converts the iPhone 12 into a Nintendo Switch style gaming device.

There are plenty of reasons why the iPhone is a better smartphone to game on - it delivers reliable performance, frames and graphics — every time. Don’t get me wrong, I do play games on Android smartphones as well but many times games are not well optimised for smartphones. That’s because Android devices use a variety of SoCs that are near to impossible for developers to support. This is where the iPhone has a major advantage over Android devices because most of the smartphones from the past few years are based on the same platform albeit with better performance. Whether it is the iPhone SE, iPhone X, iPhone 8 or the latest iPhone 12, developers don’t have to optimise games for different platforms which makes gaming a superior experience for players. That’s the beauty of gaming on an iPhone, whether you use a model from two years ago or the latest model, the experience remains largely similar, especially on single-player games.

But since I’ve been using the latest iPhone 12 Series, it would be prudent to point out why it is the best gaming smartphone right now. The iPhone 12 is capable of playing console games that I tend to play on the Nintendo Switch. However, what’s impressive is that the phone manages to play games like Genshin Impact, PUBG Mobile, Stardew Valley, and plenty of other single-player games from Apple Arcade without any throttling or frame rate issues. These games also run on the highest setting possible on default, which often surpasses graphics fidelity in the same games when played on Android devices.

Other games like Pathless, Sonic Team Racing, and Samurai Jack are games that can also be played on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The iPhone version of the game looks quite impressive and sometimes is on par with consoles. That’s because the iPhone 12’s A14 Bionic SoC is the world’s first 5nm chipset that has two high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores. In terms of GPU performance, the SoC with four GPU cores is currently one of the leading chipsets for graphics rendering on mobiles. A simple 3D Mark Wild Life benchmark test yielded a score of 6,562 which is quite impressive for a smartphone. The 3D Mark Wild Life benchmark test puts the phone through a stress test with multiple on-screen assets, and high draw distance plays a major role here. Whether in games or in a benchmark test, the iPhone 12 can easily outscore the competition and deliver a consistent performance each time.

When it comes to frame rates, the iPhone 12’s A14 Bionic chipset can handle even the most demanding games with ease without any noticeable frame rate drops. Games like Call of Duty, PUBG Mobile or any other game that are competitive in nature require the best highest frame rates possible in order to have an advantage over other players. The iPhone 12 consistently delivers 60 frames which I cannot say is the same even for flagship-level Android devices. In order to get a similar experience on Android, users have to depend on smartphones like the ASUS ROG series that comes with liquid cooling, fan cooling accessories and overclocked SoCs.

There is no denying that the iPhone 12 can handle some seriously powerful games and can be a great alternative to devices like the Nintendo Switch. Apple Arcade also plays a huge role since you can play hundreds of games for a monthly cost of Rs 100. The service brings console-level gaming experience to a portable phone which is the reason why I ended up purchasing the Razer Kishi for the iPhone.
