Due to the pandemic, most adult professionals found themselves flocking back to their hometowns to ‘work from home’. 

Living with your parents as a grown-up is probably the best thing after you’ve lived on your own, had Maggi for dinner most nights and had to choose between Netflix and paying rent.

Regardless of how spoiled you were as a child, as a responsible adult, you are expected to help around the house and take care of yourself on your own while you enjoy the ‘ghar ka khana’ and fresh laundry folded on your bed every day. 

In desi households, you get a free subscription of daily taane if you don’t.

However, this one non-desi dad, who found his 23-year-old son lounging on a couch pretty much every day, had another approach to make sure he doesn’t add on to their expenses and chores. 

He made a list of strict rules that he needed to abide by if he wanted to live under his roof.

He shared on Reddit, “He said it was temporary but he's been here for 4 months and that's not what bothers me but the fact that he adds to our expenses and hasn't started working and doesn't help in any capacity.”

The rules went like this:

"A. No counting on us to do basic tasks and start doing his own laundry and wash his own dishes.

 B. No complaining about what's for lunch/dinner and accept and be grateful for the food he eats.

 C. No wifi more than 6hrs a day just like his younger sister.

 D. No luxuries like Netflix subscriptions and YouTube live streams unless he somehow pays for it himself.”

People on Reddit mostly agreed with all of the above except the ‘wifi rule’, which they thought was a bit too much. However, they said the other rules were pretty reasonable and it was time he took responsibilities around the house like an adult.   

Although this is an epic way, desi dads don’t need to make these rules. They just need to look at you in a different way (a sharp stare with a disappointed look and hands on their waist) for you to move your ass at once.
