5 Major Technology And Gaming Events That Have Been Cancelled Due To The Coronavirus Outbreak


The Coronavirus or COVID-19 outbreaks have led to the cancellation of major technology and gaming events across the world. The outbreak has led to more than 4,000 deaths and over 1 lakh confirmed cases. This has affected every major public gathering in India and around the world. Sporting events have been called off or are being held in empty stadiums and people are now resorting to working from home due to the fear caused by the outbreak.

Thereâs no doubt that Coronavirus is having an adverse effect on tech product launches and some of the biggest events were cancelled as a precaution. While all types of events are being cancelled, we decided to compile a brief list of events that got cancelled and what was expected to launch at these events. 

1. Mobile World Conference

The worldâs biggest mobile trade show was cancelled due to the outbreak a week before it was being hosted. Many companies including Realme, Vivo, Huawei, Oppo, OnePlus and countless others were planning to show off their new phones and concept devices.

2. Apple Special Event

Apple was planning to host a special event sometime in March where the company was expected to announce new products such as the iPhone 9, AirTags and the new iPad Pro. We donât know if Apple will host an online event or even launch these products anytime soon due to the delays caused by the epidemic. 

3. Game Developer Conference

The annual Game Developer Conference was postponed indefinitely as companies like Sony, Facebook, Electronic Arts, Kojima Productions, Unity, Amazon, and Epic Games withdrew their participation due to the outbreak. Companies were expected to show off new games, the future of game development for the next generation and service announcements. 

4. E3

E3 is the worldâs biggest gaming show where Microsoft was expected to show off its new console and games. Companies like Nintendo, Ubisoft, Bethesda were all scheduled to host their events at the conference but the event was cancelled on the 11th of March. We were expecting to hear news on new game consoles including the Xbox Series X and possibly the PlayStation 5. Most participants are now scrambling to host their own digital events during the E3 conference dates. 

5. Google I/O Developer Conference

Google cancelled its annual developer conference earlier this month as a precaution to keep their employees and visitors safe from the virus. Google hosts the annual event to show off new Android features and products that would roll out to Pixel and partner phones in the near future.
