Heres How Gaming PCs Can Help In Fighting Coronavirus And Gamers Have Already Started Helping

If you have a gaming PC at home or even a gaming laptop, you can help in fighting the deadly Coronavirus.

Sure, it doesnât sound like something that is possible but you can lend the graphical power of your gaming PC to help fight the virus. Of course, you donât have to be in a specific region to make your PC available for researchers.

Nvidia is calling for every PC gamerâs help by downloading the "Folding@home application." Once downloaded, you can put spare clock cycles towards fighting Coronavirus.

The program will link your gaming PC into an international network that uses distributed processing power for carrying out massive computing tasks.

This process needs gaming-grade GPUs which just happens to be in millions of homes. You can turn the application off and get your GPUâs full power when you need it for playing games.

PC Gamers, letâs put those GPUs to work.

Distributed power is often used for research purposes and years ago Folding@home was also used to draw power from PlayStation 3.

A new project was announced for studying the Coronavirus and the extra distributed power will be used for "simulating potentially druggable protein targets from SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) and the related SARS-CoV virus (for which more structural data is available)â

Lending your PCâs graphical power will enable researchers to better understand the virus and this is your chance to lend a helping hand.

Gamers can donate their unused GPU and CPU computing power to fight against Coronavirus and other diseases like Cancer, Parkinsonâs and other fatal diseases.

You can download the program from here if you want to get started.
