  1. Invision Community has had different view modes for a good number of years. Forum grid view was added to create some visual interest when listing forums, and we've had expanded and condensed view modes in streams since they were introduced. We've taken both of these views a step further in Invision Community 4.5 Forum Grid View To create even more visual interest, the grid view now allows you to upload, or choose a stock image for the header. This instantly makes for a more dynamic and inviting forum list. The new grid view image headers You can choose an image from the Admin CP when creating or editing a forum. Choose a stock photo, or upload your own Topic List View For the topic list view, we have taken inspiration from our stream view options to introduce a new 'expanded' view mode, which displays a snippet of the first post. The new expanded topic list mode This immediately entices you to engage with the topic because you can read part of the post without having to click inside to see if it interests you. This is controlled via the Admin CP, where you can choose the default view, or turn off the new view completely. Other Changes You may notice a few other subtle changes in these screenshots. The first is that we now included the follower count as a metric on both the forum grid view and the topic expanded view modes. The number of followers is usually a good indicator of how others perceive the value of the content. A higher follower count generally means a more engaging topic or forum. You can also see that we've switched to a short number format to keep the displays clean. Instead of say, "2,483 posts", it will merely say "2.5k posts". Reducing visual clutter is always crucial to maintaining a clean user interface. We hope that you find these new view modes useful and that they make your community even more vibrant!

You can now update/overwrite media in the Pages Media Manager. Mapbox as an additional map provider to Google Maps. Technical Changes Direct support for Sparkpost has been removed. Anyone currently using Sparkpost will automatically have their settings converted to the Sparkpost SMTP mode so your email will still work. Your cache engines (like Redis) will be checked on upgrade and in the support tool to ensure they are reachable. Third-party applications will now be visually labeled to distinguish them from Invision Community official applications. The queued tasks list in the AdminCP is now collapsed by default as queued tasks are not something people need to pay much attention to during normal operations. When upgrading from version 3 series you must convert your database to UTF8 and the system saves your original data in tables prefixed with orig. The AdminCP now alerts you these are still present and allows you to remove them to reclaim storage space. On new installs there are now reasonable defaults for upload limits to keep people from eating up storage space. Categories in all apps (forums, gallery albums, databases, etc.) no longer allow HTML in their titles. This has been a concern both in terms of security and usability so we were forced to restrict it. Large improvements to the Redis cache engine including use for sessions. The login with HTTPS option has been removed and those who were using it will be given instructions to convert their entire community to HTTPS. Images loaded through the proxy system now honor image limits for normal uploads. We now consider BBCode deprecated. We are not removing support but will not fix any future issues that may come up.

  18. PM Abbasi arrives in Switzerland to attend the WEF. Photo: Geo News ZURICH: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi arrived here Tuesday to participate in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) ? being held in Davos, in eastern Switzerland, from January 24 to 25 ? on the invitation of WEF founder and executive chairman Professor Klaus Schwab. Upon arrival at the Zurich airport, the premier was received by Pakistan's Ambassador in Switzerland Ahmad Naseem Warraich and senior government officials. Abbasi will participate in a number of important events and hold bilateral meetings with key world leaders, as well as chairpersons and CEOs of fifteen leading multinational organisations from the US, Europe, China, and Japan. He will interact with heads of states and governments in a special session of the Informal Group of World Economic Leaders (IGWEL). The prime minister will also participate in a WEF session ? titled ?The Belt and Road Impact? ? on January 24. He will also give interviews to major international media outlets including Wall Street Journal, Nikkei/FT Group, Washington Post, CNN, and Reuters. The premier's participation in WEF offers an opportunity to project Pakistan as a prime destination of business, investment, and trade. Moreover, Abbasi will showcase the country's upward economic trajectory and its huge potential. It will provide the opportunity to meet a number of world leaders in an informal setting and share views on different issues. The premier is accompanied by Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif and other officials. Pakistan Peoples Party leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will also be attending the forum.
  19. "I was always told, ?a speech should be like a woman?s skirt. It should not be too long that one loses one?s interest. Neither it should be too long that it doesn?t cover the subject.'" the CJP said in a speech The Women?s Action Forum on Tuesday in an open letter asked Chief Justice Saqib Nisar to ?issue a public apology to the women of Pakistan? after he gave a speech having a quote, slammed as being sexist, by Winston Churchill. ?The WAF Karachi, through this letter, calls on you to issue a public apology to the women of Pakistan; recognise the rampant sexism and under-representation of women in the legal profession and judiciary; and take immediate steps to provide a harassment-free environment for women in the profession and those who engage with it,? the statement read. The chief justice while giving the speech told the attendees: ?Don?t think I?ve written a long speech. I was always told, ?a speech should be like a woman?s skirt. It should not be too long that one loses one?s interest. Neither it should be too short that it doesn?t cover the subject?. So I will be adhering to that principle." ?On January 13, 2018, during your speech at a judicial conference in Karachi, you quoted Winston Churchill, comparing a good speech to the length of a woman?s skirt. Reliance on this quote reveals deep-rooted sexism and double standards women are held to which discourage women from joining the legal profession due to this hostile mindset towards them? the statement said. Speaking to Geo.tv, Uzma Noorani one founder members of WAF said the chief justice "should realize the difficulties faced by women in a male-dominated profession. By making such a statement he is putting down women and that makes me sad." The WAF statement emphasised that ?it is disheartening and disappointing for women to hear such sexist remarks from highest-ranking judicial official of the country?. ?It goes without saying that all forms of harassment and sexual harassment are pervasive within the legal profession. Anonymous stories of ?casual? remarks women are subjected to are shared as a matter of routine. Lawyers who are women are often told to keep away from litigation as courts are not women-friendly spaces. Many women in the legal profession end up settling for corporate law due to the rampant sexism. The discomfort experienced by women litigators in these spaces is due to an intimidating atmosphere created by such ?causal? statements that continue to poison the work atmosphere. This atmosphere is also unwelcoming for women litigants who hesitate to take complaints to courts due to the misogynist attitudes towards them. The judiciary remains an unaccountable institution within which incidents of harassment and other misconduct are rarely reported,? the statement further read. The forum likened the quoted to objectification of women, and said such incidents are part of a wider culture of discrimination against women. ?WAF Karachi wishes to emphasise that women?s bodies and attire are not a source of gratification for others - especially members of the opposite *** ? and statements that dehumanize and objectify women are not only derogatory and demeaning towards women but also contribute to the victim-blaming culture, which is the biggest impediment in fighting crimes committed against women in our society where women end up being blamed for them because of how they are attired...It is about time women are recognized for their minds and professional ability rather than demeaned and scrutinised over their appearance and manner of dressing - in court and outside.? The statement said that the higher judiciary and especially the Chief Justice of Pakistan should ?set that tone through your choice of words and concrete actions.? WAF went on to quote Article 25 of the Constitution of Pakistan that ensures non-discriminatory spaces and equal rights for women. It endorsed the statement released by the Women Lawyers? Association, which said that the CJP?s reference using women?s bodies to illustrate a point is a setback for women professionals in the field, further causing them to face alienation and marginalisation in a male-dominated field. ?WAF Karachi regrets to say that women in society at large are also losing faith in the ability of the judiciary to carry out its functions in an independent and impartial manner due to the prevalence of such regressive attitudes and sexist mindset. There is a legitimate reason to fear a lack of impartiality towards them by you and others within the institution,? the statement said.
  20. US President Donald Trump speaks to the media in the lobby of Trump Tower in Manhattan, New York, US, August 15, 2017. REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque/Files US President Donald Trump will take his populist message directly to the world?s business and financial elite later this month, becoming the first US president to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos in 20 years. Trump ? who ran for president on a nationalist "America First" platform ? will mingle at the annual Alpine festival of globalism in Switzerland, and perhaps offer a few views of his own, the White House said. "The president welcomes opportunities to advance his America First agenda with world leaders," White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said. "At this year?s World Economic Forum, the president looks forward to promoting his policies to strengthen American businesses, American industries and American workers." A string of US presidents has avoided attending the annual upscale event, fearing a trip to a European ski resort would make them look out of touch. The last president to go was Bill Clinton, who attended in 2000. The gathering might seem antithetical to Trump?s brand of politics, but the White House insists his message will be the same surrounded by chalets as it would be in Washington. Looking to make his mark? Trump, a real estate mogul-turned-president, has rarely shied away from the rich and famous but may have an additional geopolitical incentive to attend. Last year, the forum was dominated by the appearance of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Xi became the first Chinese leader to go, picking up the mantle of defender of free trade and globalization in the face of Trump?s protectionist rhetoric. "No one will emerge as a winner in a trade war," Xi warned, fueling a sense of rapidly growing China stepping into a space vacated by the United States. During a decades-long spending spree, China has bankrolled infrastructure projects from Sri Lanka to Zambia, often earning political influence in the process. Last year, the Trump administration was represented by informal emissary Anthony Scaramucci, who challenged Beijing to match words and deeds. Firms were also quick to point out the gap between Xi?s rhetoric and the realities of doing business in China, which is a frequently tortuous affair. ?America First? But it is unclear how Trump?s pitch for "America First" trade will play among the disciples of a global rules-based order. Since coming to office in January 2017, Trump has ripped up or sought to renegotiate a series of trade pacts that underpin global commerce. A series of investigations into Chinese trade practices have put his administration on a collision course with Beijing. This year?s trip to Davos takes place between January 23-26. It is not yet clear when precisely Trump will attend. The theme of the event is "Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World."

  22. French President Emmanuel Macron, COP23 President Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama of Fiji and German Chancellor Angela Merkel pose for a photo with Timothy Naulusala from Fiji during the COP23 U.N. Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany, November 15, 2017. REUTERS/Wolfgang Rattay BONN: World leaders shared the spotlight with a 12-year-old Pacific islander on Wednesday to drive home a plea for urgent climate action despite the Trump administration's rejection of a planet rescue plan. UN chief Antonio Guterres, French President Emmanuel Macron and, German Chancellor Angela Merkel led the diplomatic push in Bonn, but it was a small boy with a big smile who got the message across. "My home, my school, my source of food, water, money was totally destroyed. My life was in chaos," Timoci Naulusala, whose village in Fiji's Tailevu province was hit by a devastating cyclone last year, told hundreds of delegates including some 25 heads of state and government. "My once beautiful village is now a barren and empty wasteland... Climate change is here to stay unless you do something about it." The boy received rousing applause before shaking hands with some of the most powerful people in the world and posing for photographs at the 23rd annual round of UN climate talks. The leaders descended on Bonn to re-energise negotiations hamstrung by America's rejection of the 2015 Paris Agreement. They were met in the morning by anti-fossil fuel protesters waving posters proclaiming: "Clean coal is a dirty lie" and "Stop corporate capture of the climate". The Paris pact, which Donald Trump announced in June the US would abandon, took more than two decades to negotiate and envisions a drawdown of Earth-warming greenhouse gas emissions from burning coal, oil and gas. Labelling climate change "the defining threat of our time", Guterres told delegates that continued investment in fossil fuels made no financial sense and was "counterproductive". "We must stop making bets on an unsustainable future that will place savings and societies at risk," he said. Macron, for his part, described climate change as "the most significant struggle of our time", and urged European countries to open their wallets for the UN's IPCC climate science panel, which is facing a critical budget shortfall. Central challenge Trump cut funding to the IPCC, to which the US traditionally contributed about $2 million (1.7 million euros) a year ? representing almost half of its 2016 budget. A collaboration of thousands of experts worldwide, the panel issues reports every few years and is widely considered as the authority on global warming science. "I can guarantee that starting in 2018 the IPCC will not be short a single euro," Macron said to loud applause. Merkel agreed climate change was "a, if not the, central challenge of mankind," adding the world must "stand together to implement" the Paris Agreement. The pact commits countries to limiting average global warming to under two degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) over Industrial Revolution levels, and 1.5 C if possible, to avert calamitous climate change-induced storms, drought and sea-level rises. To bolster the agreement, nations submitted voluntary commitments to curb emissions. But the 1 C mark has already been passed. A report Wednesday said America's withdrawal would boost global temperatures, calculated on current country pledges, by nearly half a degree Celsius by 2100, for a total of 3.2 C. To widespread disappointment, Merkel said the shift away from fossil fuel was not always "that easy". Coal still provides about 40 percent of Germany's electricity needs, and the country is set to miss its own goal of cutting emissions by 40 percent by 2020 from 1990 levels. "We have a long way to go yet," the chancellor conceded, adding that job retention and economic viability must be considered when weighing energy projects. "Mrs Merkel... needed to come to Bonn and show she had heard the suffering of the people of the Pacific and around the world and would do the responsible thing and end coal. She did not deliver this," said Jennifer Morgan, a Greenpeace executive director. Back home, the issue has dogged Merkel's efforts to form a coalition government of her conservative allies, the anti-coal Greens and the pro-industry Free Democrats. Lone outsider Since Monday last week, bureaucrats in Bonn have haggled over a Paris Agreement "rule book", which will specify how countries must calculate and report their emissions cuts. Now it is the turn of energy and environment ministers to unlock issues above the pay grade of rank-and-file negotiators ? with climate finance from rich to poor countries the main sticking point. The task has been complicated by the presence of White House officials who hosted a sideline event Monday defending the continued use of fossil fuels. The highest-ranking American at the talks is an acting assistant secretary of state, Judith Garber, who is due to address the conference on Thursday. This week, Syria became the 196th country to formally adopt the pact, leaving America as the only nation in the UN climate convention to reject it.
