Sugar! Spice! and Everything Nice! (Boom) Chemical-X! Pretty sure most of us made it a point to watch this iconic intro while catching up on our daily dose of cartoons on Cartoon Network. Yes, long before Amazonian Princess Diana AKA Wonder Woman or Captain Marvel, there were a trio of mutated girls created in a laboratory, who came to be known as the beloved "Powerpuff Girls." © Cartoon Network Studios The animated show about the supergirls pretty much garnered the attention of everyone, be it a girl or a boy, as the trio fought crime using their awesome powers while also juggling school, before getting tucked in bed by their human father and creator, Professor Utonium. While the 90s kids are now all grown up and managing the payments of rent, electricity and (meh) the usual pandemic life, there is a news that will hit it right in the feels. According to latest reports, the live-action reboot of The Powerpuff Girls has officially begun production stages. The new CW series, which received the green light for the pilot season in February, is being directed by Maggie Kiler, who took to Instagram to confirm the news of the production. After ruining some of the classic cartoon shows like Tom And Jerry and Dexter’s Laboratory for the readers by highlighting all the dark and sexual innuendos in their numerous episodes, we are here to complete rob you of the all the good memories of following Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup through their extraordinary lives as the Powerpuff Girls. Fun Fact: The show was initially made with adults as its target audience and therefore was loaded with references and hidden meanings that were obviously not supposed to be for kids. It was only after Cartoon Network began televising Powerpuff Girls that they had to tone it down by a lot. Here are five times Powerpuff Girls made ‘jokes’ only adults could understand: 1. Buttercup Puts A ‘Condom’ In Professor’s Pocket In the episode Mommy Fearest, the girls set up a date for Professor Utonium with a lovely lady. They fix the day and the time and help the man get ready for the big night. While Bubbles brings him a box for his tuxedo and Blossom gets a flower, Buttercup can be seen sliding something inside the Professor’s breast pocket and suggests that he’d need “some of these”. 2. “I Was An Accident Too, Professor” In the episode Superfriends, Robin Snyder the girl-next-door, makes her first appearance on the show. Becoming friends with Bubbles first, she is introduced to Professor Utonium soon after. Bubbles explains to Robin that the Professor had created the three sisters by accident. This is where things suddenly become extremely dark. Robin looks at the Professor and says: “It’s okay professor, I was an accident, too.” This is followed by Utonium making a very perplexed expression. 3. Pencil In A Sharpener Ms. Bellum, a cartoon character with exaggerated curves but no face, is one of the most recurring people on the show and many critics believe that she was invented this way to attract a more mature bunch of audience. However, in one episode, the Powerpuff Girls’ rival Sedusa doubles as Ms. Bellum and tries to seduce the mayor. Before we go ahead, I am going to remind you that this is a cartoon show for kids. So, Sedusa, dressed as Ms. Bellum goes into the Mayor’s office and bends over in front of his desk. Upon looking at her cleavage, the old man gets all sweaty and ends up breaking his pencil. Sedusa then takes the Mayor’s hand’, that’s holding the pencil in a rather peculiar way and guides it inside the hole of a pencil sharpener. This is followed up by the Mayor making some mourns and grunts. 4. Boys Get ‘Bigger’ When Kissed The Rowdyruff Boys were the evil male versions of our protagonists and in the initial episodes of their appearance it was established that they’d burst into flames when kissed by the girls. However, the evil trio of guys return to the show after a couple of seasons and this time around the effect of being kissed by the girls has a different result. Instead of getting disgusted, the boys start to ‘grow in size’ every time one of the girls kissed them. The references these guys were trying to make becomes so much obvious now. 5.
