  1. Harry Styles set the New York?s Madison Square on beat with his Halloween-themed concert, 'Harryween'.
  2. Winning a title is not easy. It surely takes a lot to outwit the rivals and eventually rise to the top before claiming the top honours. But, then comes the hard part - defending the title. The history of successful title defences in the Premier League highlights how tough it is for a club to defend their crown. But, every now and then, there comes a bunch of spirited players who combine to aid their team in the elusive title defence, making them a cut above the rest. That was the story of Vidarbha cricket team in the Ranji Trophy this season. Having won their first-ever Ranji Trophy title in the 2017-18 season, Vidarbha, unlike some of the best sides in the tournament, embarked on what turned out to be a commendable campaign this season. The Faiz Fazal-led side faced a stern test when they booked a date with Saurashtra in the tournament's final. But, staying true to their character, the defending champions edged-past Saurashtra to secure a 78-run win and, in the process, claimed their second Ranji Trophy title. © Twitter Every title defence needs heroes, and the man who stepped up for Vidarbha was undoubtedly Aditya Sarwate whose sensational figures of 11-157 and a 49-run knock in the second innings ensured Saurashtra suffered their third heartbreak in the final in the last seven Ranji Trophy seasons. Bowled out for 312 runs in the first innings, Vidarbha were aided by their spin-bowling duo of Sarwate and Akshay Wakhare. While Sarwate clinched a five-for at the expense of 98 runs, Wakhare, too, contributed towards his team's cause with figures of 4-80. As the two spinners spun a web around the opposition batsmen, Saurashtra were eventually bundled out for 307 runs in the first innings. Taking a slender five-run lead, Vidarbha ran into all sorts of trouble in the second innings. Riding on the heroics of Dharmendrasinh Jadeja (6-96), the Saurashtra bowling unit did their side a huge favour by bowling their opponents out for just 200 runs. Saurashtra would've fancied their chances after being given a 206-run target, but Sarwate had other plans. Congrats Vidarbha on retaining the Ranji Trophy. One win may be construed an aberration, two in a row is sign of prowess ðð — Cricketwallah (@cricketwallah) February 7, 2019 Vidarbha's left-arm spinner struck early on and sent Snell Patel packing at just 12 runs. Then, Sarwate dismissed Harvik Desai (8) before trapping big fish Cheteshwar Pujara (0) in front of the stumps to claim two scalps in one over. Later, the likes of Kamlesh Makvana, Vishvaraj Jadeja and Jaydev Unadkat also became the victims of Sarwate's spin wizardry. As Sarwate claimed six wickets in the second innings, Saurashtra were capitulated for a mere 127 runs, losing the contest and a chance to improve on their history in the finals. For a man who had never claimed a 10-wicket haul, Sarwate couldn't have claimed the feat on a better day or occasion than the Ranji Trophy final. © Twitter Apart from putting his best foot forward in the all-important final, Sarwate has been a vital cog for Vidarbha throughout their commendable season. The 29-year-old finished the tournament with a staggering 55 wickets in 11 matches, including best figures of 11-157 that came in the final. He also boasts of six fifers and a 10-wicket haul, alongside an impressive economy rate of under three runs. Well done Vidarbha! What a success story this has been...Vidarbha cricket. ðððððð#RanjiTrophy — Sanjay Manjrekar (@sanjaymanjrekar) February 7, 2019 If anyone saw the final, they'd agree that the contest was pretty close with both the teams fighting their way back at several points in the match. But, in the end, it was Sarwate - the 'Player of the Match' - who spun a web around Saurashtra's batting line-up to make Vidarbha only the sixth team in history to successfully defend a Ranji Trophy title.

  4. When someone talks about Indian badminton, Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu are the first few names that come to mind. Their careers have been prolific, achievements hard to match and continuous dedication to keep India on the international map is just admirable. But, while the two athletes have been majestic in the women's category, their male counterparts have struggled to keep pace with their laurels. Ever since the genius of Prakash Padukone and Pullela Gopichand blessed the men's category, India has failed to find a man of their might who could replicate their success. But, that's about to change. The rapid rise of young Lakshya Sen seems to be the answer Indian badminton has been seeking for in the men's category all this while. © BCCL If the 15-year-old prodigy's hardwork saw him clinch the world no. 1 rank in the junior category, his stunning brilliance to achieve more is creating ripples in the ongoing Senior National Badminton Championship. A debutant in the Senior National Badminton Championship, Lakshya has been through thick and thin and emerged victorious in the five matches he has played so far. His ability to handle pressure and disregard of opponent's reputation saw him getting the better of the third-seed HS Prannoy and fourth-seed Harsheel Dani enroute his maiden final. © BCCL Up against the former National Champion Sourabh Verma, Lakshya will be counting on his strong defence and cross-court smashes to pip his 24-year-old opponent to his maiden National title on Sunday. At such a young age, Laskhya posesses all the necessary traits of being a true legend. He boasts of an impeccable tactical net play, clean and accurate strokes, and the temperament of a senior player. Though it's too early to predict his future in badminton, but the young star is already showing great signs once reflected in the game of great Padukone and electric Gopichand. © BCCL Playing in his first National final on Sunday, Lakshya will also be on the cusp of history as he is just one win away from becoming the youngest senior National champion - a feat previously achieved by Padukone. Whatever the outcome, the most-anticipated match of the senior Nationals between Lakshya and Sourabh is definitely the one you don't want to miss.
  5. If Virat Kohli is known as the batting maestro, then Ravichandran Ashwin is arguably the spin wizard for the Indian team. What the Indian Test skipper has been doing with the bat, Ashwin seems to be doing exactly the same with the ball in his hand. The right-arm offie has witnessed a meteoric rise in the past couple of years with the opposition batsmen facing the heat. His carrom ball, an arm ball just as good, his control over his offbreaks, and a sharp mind has made Ashwin a quintessential spinner for his side. The 30-year-old was once again at his prolific best when he decimated the England middle-order in the fourth Test at Wankhede. After taking four wickets on the first day, Ashwin took just 12 balls to strike the first blow against England on Day 2 and complete his five-for. © BCCL It was Ashwin's 23rd five-wicket haul in only his 43rd Test match. The fact that Indian legend Kapil Dev took 131 Tests to notch up his 23rd fifer goes on show how consistent the Indian off-spinner has been for his side. England batsman Ben Stokes became Ashwin's victim early in the day after edging the ball to first slip. The on-field umpire had initially ruled Stokes not out, but a review by India called the curtains on the left-hander's innings. Tail-ender Jake Ball, too, couldn't handle Ashwin's artistry with ball and became his sixth victim in the innings after nicking one to the wicket-keeper. India's premier spinner finished his spell at 6-112 with an economy-rate of under 3. © BCCL He is now only behind his coach Anil Kumble and out-of-favour offie, Harbhajan Singh in the list of most five-wicket hauls by an Indian in Test cricket. Kumble is currently leads the list with 35 five-fors, while Bhajji is just two fifers ahead of Ashwin. Ashwin is currently on seventh spot in the list of India's leading wicket-takers in Tests. He has gone past Javagal Srinath's record of 236 Test wickets and is now just two wickets adrift of BS Chandrasekhar's mark of 242 scalps. The off-spinner was been on fire in 2016, claiming seven five-fors in Test matches. In the last two years, Ashwin was clinched 14 five-wicket hauls. Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan is another spinner who notched up 14 five-fors in a two-year period. © BCCL In 2011, Ashwin took nine wickets in his maiden Test against West Indies - the second-highest by an Indian debutant after Narendra Hirwani's 16 scalps against the Windies in 1988. Following a sensational debut, Ashwin went on to register nine five-fors in his first 16 Tests. In 2013, he broke Erapalli Prasanna's Indian record for the fastest to 100 Test wickets by reaching the milestone in only his 18th match. He was instrumental in India's 3-0 Test series win against South Africa in 2015, finishing the tour with 31 scalps to his name. Against New Zealand earlier this year, Ashwin continued to prove his mettle and emerged with 27 wickets in three Test matches. © BCCL An opener with the bat before taking up spin bowling, Ashwin has also proved to be a potent batsman lower-down the order for India. With sound technique and plenty of shots in his armoury, Ashwin has slammed four hundreds and nine fifties in 42 Test matches he has played so far. For a man who was left out for the seventh time in nine Tests (at Adelaide Oval in December, 2014), Ashwin didn't just came back strong to cement his position, he has truly gone on to become India's premier match-winner.
