  1. Today marks the passing of a year since 40 Indian jawans lost their lives in the deadly Pulwama terror attack and the entire country is paying homage to the fallen heroes in their own way. One man, in particular, came up with a powerful way that he could honour all the martyrs - by making a special memorial for them. Umesh Gopinath Jadhav, a Bengaluru-based musician, travelled throughout the country to meet the families of the martyrs and collect soil from outside of their houses. © ANI He spent a good portion of 2019 travelling 61,000 kilometres covering 16 states and achieving this incredible feat. Hats off to him, for real, this is one of the best tributes ever. He collected all the soil in one urn which is now displayed at the memorial that was inaugurated today at Lethpora camp in the Pulwama district. The CRPF had invited Jadhav as a special guest at the wreath-laying ceremony since he's gone above and beyond to honour not just the martyred jawans but also their families. © ANI And, this was all him, he didn't have any donations or sponsorships, it's all just from the good of his heart. After the ceremony, he said, "My main purpose was to pay respect and homage to the jawans who lost their lives in the attack. I have travelled more than 61,000 kilometres to collect the soil. Their soil is for mother earth. I am proud that I met all the families of Pulwama martyrs and sought their blessings. Parents lost their son, wives lost their husbands, children lost their fathers and friends lost their friends. I collected soil from their houses and their cremation grounds." He added, "India stands with them, this is my message to the Armed Forces of the country. This is my small effort to show respect for the martyrs." © ANI But, he's still not done it seems, as he's also hoping to raise about Rs 50,000 for each of the martyrsâ families. What a great man! 2. Since the devastating Kerala floods, the Pulwama attack in Jammu & Kashmir exactly a week ago has been the second incident of national importance that has managed to bring the entire country together. Regardless of one's class, creed or gender, people from all walks of life have come together to honour the martyrs and stand in support of their families. However, some people truly deserve a special mention during such a time for their selfless actions. An elderly woman beggar who breathed her last in 2018 happens to be one such individual who made a notable monetary contribution to the funds being collected for the Pulwama martyrs' families. © Twitter The late beggar named Nandini Sharma had collected a sum amounting to 6.61 lakh rupees over the years, which was a result of her regular cash deposits at the bank. Nandini had nominated two trustees to safeguard her account upon her death, and left behind a will stating that her savings be used for the society's welfare, according to a TOI report . Nandini used to beg outside the Ambe Mata Temple at Bajrangarh in Ajmer, and made it a habit to deposit a little sum every other day. The trustees who had been waiting for a good time to put Nandini's savings to good use since her death in August last year, decided to donate it for the welfare of the Pulwama martyrs' families. © Reuters Ajmer collector Vishwa Mohan Sharma told TOI, “the trustees came to the district administration office on Wednesday and expressed their desire to donate money to the chief minister relief fund for the attack victims. The legal cell completed the formalities following which, the amount was accepted and a certificate was issued to them.” One of Nandini's trustees, Sandeep Gaur told TOI that, “despite the fact that her savings came from begging, she wanted it to be of some use to the country and hence, we considered it best to be used for the kin of the CRPF jawans killed in the Pulwama attack.” © Twitter Regulars at the Ambe Mata Temple were so moved by the news of Nandini's goodwill that they have been holding special prayers for Nandini's soul. Even when she didn't have much, she saved for the welfare of others, and today her savings have been put to best use just as she had desired. We hope Nandini rests in peace, knowing her last wish has been fulfilled.
  3. The terror attack in Pulwama, which is being called the biggest attack on India's security forces since the Uri attack in 2016, has shaken the entire country. On 14th February 2019, JeM terrorist Adil Ahmad Dar targeted a CRPF convoy comprising over 70 vehicles and 2,547 personnel, which was moving from Jammu towards Srinagar. The attack took away the life of 44 jawans and has left the country seething with anger and grief. © Twitter Numerous celebrities and Bollywood stars have come forward to lend their support and aid to the martyrs' families, in an attempt to ease their struggle to lead a life without a member of their family, in any way they can. More recently, Bollywood's own Khiladi Akshay Kumar took to Twitter to urge his followers to act immediately and support the martyrs' families. #Pulwama is something we cannot & will not forget. We're all angry & it's time to act. 4. India was shaken to its core on February 14 2019, when a JeM suicide bomber rammed his car, laden with over 350kgs of explosives into a bus carrying CRPF jawans, in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. In the wake of one of the worst terrorist attacks ever in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, not just the families of the martyred jawans, but the whole nation is filled with rage and weeping over the loss of these bravehearts. AP In this dark time, people from across the country have proved to be a ray of hope as they are coming forward to provide financial help to the families of the martyred jawans. People are doing everything possible to show that they stand strong with the jawans' families, even if it means cancelling their wedding reception at the last minute. Pexels Meet the Surat-based couple, Ami and Meet, who chose to donate Rs. 11 lakh to the families of martyrs, instead of hosting a lavish reception. The couple, together with their families, gave Rs. 5 lakh to various NGOs working towards the welfare of jawans and their families. After #KashmirTerrorAttack in #Pulwama, Surat families got together and canceled elaborate wedding in #Surat. The families to donate Rs 11 lakh to families of the martyrs and another Rs 5 lakh to welfare organizations. Wedding on Feb 15 to be low-key. #Gujarat Respect. ð pic.twitter.com/bGoPhIxGo3 — Kumar Manish (@kumarmanish9) February 15, 2019 Reportedly, the girl's father is a diamond businessman from Surat called Dewashi Manek. The couple's families mutually decided to go for a simple wedding and informed their respective relatives about the same and donated the money to the families who lost their loved ones in the terror attack. Other than that, organisations like 'Bharat Ke Veer', and 'Milaap' and even Paytm have started fundraisers to urge people to donate money to the martyred jawans' families. More than 40 jawans were killed in the terror attack and the death toll is on a constant rise as soldiers are succumbing to their grave injuries.

  6. Indian soldiers serve the country in some of the most inhospitable environments without ever caring about their own families. This relentless service to the nation deserves a lot of respect and gratitude on our part and therefore Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has come out in support of developing an app to aid various martyr’s kin. In partnership with the Indian government, Akshay Kumar has volunteered to create a simple web application which will enable ordinary citizens to deposit funds directly into verified bank accounts of the martyr’s kin. The link for a donation will be publicized through home ministry’s website and will help bridge the gap between citizens who are willing to financially help the families of our fallen security personnel. Twitter “Though government websites offer options to extend financial help to martyr's kin, these are not well-publicised. Also, officialdom delays the process. The app will simplify things, with the home ministry website and Akshay's involvement as a brand ambassador offering it wide publicity," said BSF DIG in Jaisalmer Amit Lodha. This was Akshay Kumar’s proposal and he met with home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi for the same. The ministry has backed the project and asked its own experts to work with Akshay’s team to start the project as soon as possible. Twitter The way this app will work is this: “Each time a central force personnel gets killed in the line of duty, details of his identity, financial status of his family, number of dependents and details of bank account of next of kin etc will be uploaded on the ministry website, letting people directly deposit their contributions into the account through the app. Once the aggregate contributions reach Rs 15 lakh, the details will be removed from the website so as to channelise further contributions to the next deserving case. Contributions will be eligible for income-tax deductions.” Through this effort for our Indian soldiers, Akshay Kumar has once again shown that to him being rich and famous is also a means to help the country do better for its fallen heroes.
