  1. Remaking popular South Indian movies has been a trend in Bollywood for a while now but, post the success of Ghajini in 2008 and Wanted in 2009, filmmakers have made this their new success formula to score numbers at the box office. There was a brief period after 2009 when the remakes started to rake in low numbers but after the phenomenal success of Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh, directors and producers have started to invest in remakes of popular South Indian movies again. We made a list of upcoming remakes of South Indian movies that people have loved and we just hope that they live up to the expectations of the fans. 1. Jersey View this post on Instagram After the success of Kabir Singh, Shahid Kapoor is set to make a comeback soon as he will be seen stepping into the shoes of a cricketer in the Hindi remake of the hit Telugu film Jerse. The Hindi remake will also be directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who was the vision behind the original one. The original film had Nani and Shraddha Srinath playing the lead pair with Sathyaraj, Brahmaji, and Ronit Kamra in supporting roles. People loved the original one and we hope that Shahid Kapoor does justice to the character played by Nani. 2. Vikram Vedha Vikram Vedha was received well by the audience and people loved Madhavan as Vikram and Vijay Sethupathi as Vedha. It was appreciated for its portrayal of the good vs evil concept with the backdrop of the classic Vikramadhityan and Vedhalam tale. For the movie, Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan were roped in to play the lead parts but there are reports that the latter is planning to walk out of the movie. We wonder what’s going to happen with this remake. 3. Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, which was released in 2016, opened to rave reviews from critics and audiences. Directed by debutant Karthick Naren, Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru was highly appreciated for its solid story of a retired cop. The movie will be remade in Hindi and has been titled Sanki. According to a report in TOI, Varun Dhawan will be playing the lead in the movie. A source quoted by Bollywood Hungama said, “Sajid Nadiadwala had bought the official rights to the superhit Tamil thriller Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru. Sanki is a remake of the same film. They are adapting the screenplay to suit the pan-India platform.” The source added, “It's a cleverly crafted thriller, where Varun Dhawan plays a top cop who loses his leg during one of the investigations. It's challenging for Varun because he plays a character battling a physical handicap for the first time in his career.” View this post on Instagram The original has a rating of 8.3 on IMDB and we hope that Varun and the makers do not disappoint the fans with the Hindi remake. 4. Maanagaram Maanagaram starring Sundeep Kishan, Regina Cassandra, and Sri as the leads was a hit at the box office. The story revolves around a young man who moves to Chennai and gets beaten up in a case of mistaken identity. The Hindi remake has been titled Mumbaikar and Vikrant Massey has been roped in for the lead role. The movie also marks Vijay Sethupathi's Bollywood debut. Vikrant also shared the poster of the movie on his birthday this year. He captioned it, “This birthday is doubly special for me. Thank you for all your heartfelt wishes and love. I’m glad to share with you all, the first look of my next film – #Mumbaikar. Gratitude.” View this post on Instagram Given the fact that the movie did wonders at the box office and for the Hindi remake, we have Vikrant and Vijay in the frame, there will be high expectations. 5. HIT The First Case Rajkummar Rao will star in the Hindi remake of the Telugu investigative thriller HIT. The film revolves around a cop in the Crime Investigation Department working in the Homicide Intervention Team, who is on the trail of a missing woman. The original one raked in great numbers at the box office and people might expect the same from the Hindi remake. © Twitter/Taran Adarsh Rajkummar, in a statement, told why he chose to be a part of the remake. He had said, “When I watched HIT, I instantly connected with the story. It’s engaging and relevant in today’s times. As an actor, I am always on the lookout for characters I have not explored before and HIT gives me the chance to do that. I am looking forward to this journey." 2. Filmmaking in India isnât just a challenge in terms of logistics, production costs and promotion - even after a film is made, it has to pass through the dreaded and often unrealistic expectations of Indiaâs CBFC, or Central Board of Film Certification. While the countryâs sensibilities towards sexual and societal taboos have evolved over the years, certain films were dragged through lengthy, difficult and artistically limiting negotiations with the government body - especially through the infamous chairmanship of Pahlaj Nihalani, who was sacked in 2017. Here are some of the biggest editing casualties weâve seen in Indian theatres in recent years. 1. Grand Masti - 218 Cuts While this was understandably for a TV premiere and the CBFC was terrified at the idea of young kids flipping from Cartoon Network to a no-holds barred *** comedy, the film was subjected to an absolutely insane 218 cuts - although the filmmakerâs werenât too worried. It held the title of Indiaâs highest-grossing A-rated film for over six years, only overtaken by 2019âs Kabir Singh. 2. Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 - 150 Cuts According to reports during the filmâs 2016 release, even after obtaining an A-rated certificate, the third Kya Kool Hain Hum film suffered 150 cuts - not a big surprise when almost the entire filmâs plot revolves around sexual, slapstick humour and innuendo injected into every dialogue. Weâre surprised that it didnât turn out to be a short film by the end. 3. Dilliwali Zaalim Girlfriend - 63 Cuts While this film remained relatively safe when it came to its scenes - it got away with an unrestricted (U/A) certification - the filmâs dialogue was censored to hell and back again, with somewhat trivial words such as âsaalaâ or âsaaliâ slashed from it. Director Japinder Kaur, was rather amused by the cuts. She is quoted in the CBFC report as saying that if there is no thematic issue, she doesnât understands the problem in just picking up singular words that are part and parcel of Delhiâs local lingo. 4. Haider - 41 Cuts Vishal Bhardwajâs incredibly brave filmmaking tied together Shakespeareâs Hamlet, while conveying the subtleties of Kashmirâs past, present and future turmoil. Despite creating one of modern Indian cinemaâs most appreciated films, the Shahid Kapoor-starrer was marred by heavy action from the CBFC, which cut out scenes of torture, death and other grave realities from the region. 5. Lipstick Under My Burkha - 27 Cuts With the film sticking to its themes of sexuality and female narratives, it wasnât surprising when the cast and creators went to war with the CBFC for slashing out key portions of the film. While finally most of the movie remained untouched, everything from minor dialogue to *** scenes and moans from the artists in them were quashed by the board. 6. 50 Shades Of Grey - 20 Cuts While this film raised controversy all over the world, producers Universal Pictures had to make a special case for India. After the film was banned in several countries such as the UAE and Malaysia, the editors took no chances - creating a special âinternally trimmedâ final cut for the Indian CBFC members. And the film was eventually released with its 20-odd minutes of BDSM *** scenes heavily neutered before hitting theatres. 7. Delhi Belly - 18 Cuts Though this cult classic didnât exactly break the mold when it came to adult humour, it was still suffering from an A-rated release and was further slashed down for the TV release. And after a drawn out set of negotiations, the satellite rights were finally given to Aamir Khan productions. Itâs noted that through his entire career, Khan himself has supported other filmmakers such as Anurag Kashyap in retaining authenticity by preventing CBFC interference in film screenings. 8. Angry Indian Goddesses - 17 Cuts Much like Lipstick⦠above, this film was a landmark movie for women in Indian cinema. And unsurprisingly, the CBFC jumped on it immediately, slashing down key scenes and censoring words such as âadivasiâ and âsarkarâ that were part of important dialogues. Perhaps the most controversial of these edits enforced by the board came in the form of objections to using the image of Hindu deity Kali - truly ironic in a film called Angry Indian Goddesses. 9. Badmashiyaan - 12 Cuts A rom-com revolving around a gold-digging con woman, the film was given 12 cuts and cleared with a UA certificate on February 23. Bollywood's patented phrase, 'kutte kaminey' had to be redubbed as 'andha kahin ka' and 'ma ki aankh' with 'ma ki eyeâ, which makes⦠perfect sense, of course. Even more baffling was a scene where the girl goes to file an FIR for molestation, the words 'hum bistri' had to be muted from her dialogue but the same words, when used by a man, were allowed. 3. Nearly 25 years after Michael Bay's buddy-cop classic, the Bad Boys franchise is getting ready for one last ride, as Mike (Will Smith) and Marcus (Martin Lawrence) team up for more of the same mayhem, fast cars and crazy wisecracks. With the film promising some serious nostalgia for 90's action fans, we decided to take a look at some of the series' most hilarious moments. Intimidating Reggie - Bad Boys II Marcus pulls the tough-act guy on a young man looking to take his daughter out on a date - until Mike decides to go straight-up gangster on him. 2. Marcus On Ecstasy - Bad Boys II In one of Martin Lawrence's most hilarious scenes, Mike and Marcus make their way to their neurotic police chief's home with just one issue - Marcus is trippin' balls. 3. The Bad Cop Routine - Bad Boys During an interrogation, Mike goes a little too far with his bad-cop routine - even driving Marcus up the wall. 4. Freeze, Mother Bitches! - Bad Boys A supermarket clerk decides to play hero when he spots Mike's gun, and Marcus is just about done with him. 5. Professional Boundaries - Bad Boys II Mike and Marcus talk about some personal issues under a video store camera - Marcus however gets TMI too quickly. 5. While most of us await an extended holiday to take that long, overdue break or to just hang out with family and friends, some of us would rather use it for some 'me' time. And that's where online streaming services come in. Netflix is increasingly becoming our primary source of entertainment on an everyday basis, especially on these long weekends. The plethora of content available on Netflix makes it hard for other streaming services to beat it and honestly, the quality of Netflix Originals is unparalleled. So if you don't want to spend the coming weekend playing Holi and removing the leftover colours, then grab some popcorn and get that Netflix subscription because these Netflix original movies and shows definitely deserve to be watched. Netflix Original Shows 1. Altered Carbon Netflix has gone all out to promote this latest show and for the right reasons. Queer Eye It is the Netflix revival of the milestone makeover show that originated, in 2003- “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” and was an Emmy award winning show. The group of five people is here to transform people's lives, one makeover at a time. 3. Seven Seconds Murder mystery fans, this one's for you. The show takes up the subject of racism and revolves around the murder of a young African American teenager and the racism. Everything Sucks Anything 90s is bound to make us nostalgic and thus, would attract way too many viewers than expected. And that exactly what seems to be Netflix's purpose behind this show. Set in 1996, it revolves around a group of teenagers trying to figure out their life and make their way through the 'high school life crisis' that we all faced. Netflix Original Movies 1. Love per square foot This one was much-awaited especially by the Indian users of Netflix, for obvious reasons. This Netflix Hindi film features Vicky Kaushal and Angira Dhar and tells their story as they try to find love and a house in Mumbai. The youthfulness and the lovable characters will take you on a roller-coaster ride. 2. Mute This one's another mystery film but also has a science fiction element. 6. Rating: 4.0/5 Score: 8.5/10 Pros: Perfect for Any Outfit or Occasion, Comfortable For Long Walks, Also meant as on-court basketball shoes, additional cushioning for comfort, better than Superstars Cons: Need to be cautious about dirt, easily susceptible to water damage, the bottom lining can easily rub off. Adidas originals are one of those shoe brands that are not afraid to bring back one of their most iconic retro kicks and it was about time Adidas did the same with the ‘Campus' line for India. Adidas previously had a lot of success with their ‘Superstar' and ‘Stan Smith' collection, but the king of their retro-line is the low-top Campus. © Adidias At first look, the original ‘Campus' branding on the side panel of the show is clearly visible which sits right under the Adidas three stripe branding. The company even brought back the pre-aged vintage off-white outsole that catches every onlooker's eye. The ‘Campus' is one of Adidas' heritage models that was first designed and sold in the 80s. The original purpose of these kicks was supposed to function as an on-court basketball shoe, which is why the suede silhouette is still ubiquitous on these fine pairs. These kicks were one of the most popular pairs of sneakers amongst hip-hop and street style circles. In a day and age of Instagram bloggers and street stylists, this is probably the perfect pair to resonate with the millennial crowd today. © Adidias Adidas did not shy away from the detailing either. The suede uppers and the serrated three stripes are the most striking and eye-appealing detail about the sneaker followed by the debossed ‘Campus' branding. A shoe that is dedicated and designed for the purists and new adopters as well. One can wear these kicks with pretty much any type of outfit or occasion and still look “put-together”. How Comfortable Is It? Most sneakers from back in the day used to be flat at the top, making the shape quite awkward and uncomfortable to walk in. However, the ‘Campus' has the right about of bulkiness and at the same time is light enough to carry when travelling. The low-top feature makes the shoe sit right below the ankle which gives it more definition and also allows your outfit to look more complimentary. The Campus follows the same comfort design as the ‘Superstar' but ups the ante with additional cushioning that makes it one of the most comfortable pairs in the market today. The cushioning is enough to massage your soles so that it does not hurt when walking longer distances, being intended as a Basketball shoe originally, the low-top ankle panel provides additional support if you ever plan on jumping or play a game of hoops. One thing that annoys me the most about sneakers is the fact that you need to break into them. Somehow, the ‘Campus' did not require any breaking in. At the time I made the stupid mistake of wearing them for the first time for a 24-hour journey to the United States. Having said that, it was probably for the best as the ‘Campus' was perfect for excessive walking as I did in airports and did not encounter a single blister while wearing them for the entire duration of my trip. What's Not Cool © Adidias These pairs have become one of my favourite sneakers and even though I would like to wear them every day, I cannot. The major problem you will encounter with these pairs would be how quickly they get dirty. Living in India makes me nervous wearing the suede silhouetted pair due to the obvious reason of excessive dirt in India. In the past few weeks, the monsoons have taken over our city, and I cannot dare to even wear them in the open as water damage is another issue you might need to worry about. Albeit, this problem is not so major if you know how to take care of a suede sneaker. I would often find myself using the Jason Markk cleaning kit to keep the shoe looking brand new. The bottom lining of the shoe can also take a beating due to the rough environments in India. You can expect it to wear out within a few years which is not really a big nuisance if you plan on wearing them in closed environments. The Final Say © Pinterest The ‘Campus' is one of the most comfortable shoes you can buy from Adidas' catalogue today. In fact, if you happen to own the Superstar, dump them and get these kicks as your replacement. The pair retails for INR 9,999, but you can find it cheaper online if you know where to look. Being a heritage model, the price tag is quite fitting for the ultra comfortable, low-top suede basketball shoe. Rest-assure these kicks will look good with every outfit you can think of and it will definitely bring your style game to outstanding levels.
