  3. The athletic gear company ASICS is synonymous with excellence. While the brand has become an aspirational asset for every sports enthusiast, the credit goes to its unrivalled quality, comfort and consistency. For the uninitiated, the Japanese brand was an official sponsor of the recent olympic games. ASICS became Tokyo 2020’s 10th gold partner, in the category “sporting goods”. Additionally, the brand also sponsors several athletes including Manika Batra, Bajrang Punia, Ravindra Jadeja, Sakshi Malik, Karman Kaur Thandi, Rohan Bopanna, T.Gopi along with international athletes like Novak Djokovic. ASICS India Recently, ASICS India celebrated the homecoming of Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia at its Connaught Place, New Delhi outlet. It was a tete-a-tete of sorts where Bajrang Punia got candid about his experience at the Olympics, how he chooses his sports gear, and a lot more. Festooned in Bajrang Punia banners, the ASICS India showroom goes all out to inspire and motivate the Olympians of tomorrow. Bajrang Punia, fresh from his victory at the Olympics, looks spiffy as he explores the ASICS India Connaught Place outlet. ASICS India & South Asia Managing Director, Rajat Khurana, was also present at the occasion. He presented Bajrang Punia with a customised set of sports gear from ASICS. We’re talking running and training footwear and comfy apparel that will help the Olympian achieve sharper goals at his game. ASICS India Arjuna award recipient Bajrang Punia also spoke about how he wishes to engage more and more people in wrestling. “India is consistently producing top wrestlers with representation at global platforms and therefore, an even better time for wrestling to prosper as a mainstream sport. Being an individual sport, the onus is on us as one community to act as a catalyst to promote the sport, encourage and develop young and rising sporting talent, enabling them to achieve their aspirations. Knowing I have the power of the ASICS brand behind my endeavour is a huge boost to see my vision for wrestling in India taking shape”, he said. ASICS India ASICS India swears by its motto “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body” and leaves no stone unturned in fuelling the sports infrastructure of our country. The brand is actively involved in several grassroot ventures that give a launch pad to budding athletes -- ASICS Running Club, Tata Mumbai Marathon, TCS World 10k and Rohan Bopanna Tennis Academy to name a few. 5. It is hard to stand out from the plethora of smartphones that keep flooding the Indian smartphone market. Realme has also contributed towards the wide selection of budget smartphones in the country but at least the company is now trying to differentiate itself. Smartphones are getting boring, there’s no doubt about that. The only thing we now care about is the hardware specifications and if the camera is decent enough to capture memories. However, what if you did something different with the design that literally makes a smartphone unique. That’s the Realme GT Master Edition. I’ve been using the Realme GT Master Edition for about three weeks and here’s what I think about the smartphone that might turn a few heads. Design and Display By far, the main attraction here is the design Realme has chosen to use at the back of the smartphone. Realme says it has used “vegan leather” at the back of the phone to give the smartphone a different texture feel. I have to say that Realme has successfully managed to do that as the leather-like texture is surely a delight to feel when using the smartphone. I even love the grey colour as it isn’t gaudy and very minimalistic to look at. © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla The unique design of the smartphone comes from the mind of designer Naoto Fukasawa, who also designed the two previous Realme Master Edition smartphones. In this case, the design has tried to emulate the touch and feel of a travel suitcase which on its own is quite unique. Since the smartphone uses somewhat of a “concave” design, it does a great job of giving it some layered 3D characteristics. Sometimes I wish more companies took risks like this instead of using the same glass body design that eventually gets covered up by a protective case anyway. With the Realme GT Master Edition, I never felt like using a protective case with the smartphone. © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla Apart from the unique back, the smartphone follows the standard design where you will find the camera module on the top left corner, volume rockers on the left edge of the phone and the lock screen button on the right edge of the phone. Apart from that, the smartphone is fairly light which was surprising as I expected the device to be heavier due to the fake leather back. © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla When it comes to the display, the Realme GT Master Edition has a 6.43-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display has a peak brightness level of 1000 nits and a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. Overall, the display’s quality is fairly similar to other Super AMOLED displays. It does accurately represent colours and has sharp visuals. However, it still isn’t the highest grade AMOLED display out there in this price range. For watching movies and TV Shows, the Realme GT ME gets the job done, however you should keep your expectations in check when comparing to other Realme devices. Performance The Realme GT Master Edition is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G chipset and my review unit came with 8GB of RAM. While the 8GB of RAM is sufficient for daily tasks such as web browsing, email and social media, it won’t perform as fast or efficiently as the 800 series chipsets. In my usage, I also experienced slight overheating especially when I started to use the camera or while playing games like Super Mario Run. The case remained the same when we played other games such as Genshin Impact and BGMI. I do have to point out that there were noticeable frame rate drops in some of the more graphic-heavy titles, however it didn’t render any of the games unplayable. I advise playing the game in medium settings so that it can maintain 60FPS in competitive games like BGMI. © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla In our benchmark test, the Realme GT Master Edition scored 776 (single-core) and 2675 (multi-core) on Geekbench 5. That’s a respectable score for a mid-budget smartphone but I feel the smartphone was ultimately held back due to 8GB of RAM. There is a mode where you can slightly overclock the CPU or the GPU for better results in games, however, it does have an adverse impact on the battery of the phone. The Realme GT Master Edition has a 4,300 mAh battery which is fairly smaller than the competition. It can last up to an entire day with moderate usage, however the battery life does suffer when using CPU/GPU intensive apps. The battery can be fast-charged using the 65W SuperDart charger where it can get fully charged in 33 minutes. Camera The Realme GT Master Edition has a 64MP main sensor that is coupled with an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP Macro sensor. In my usage, the cameras weren’t exactly fun to use as many of the colours looked washed out or oversaturated. In some cases, the images also lacked enough detail even when using the 64MP mode. The macro lens is utterly useless as I always prefer a telephoto sensor over a sensor you will barely use. © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla The lack of a telephoto lens really does hamper the overall photography experience as you can clearly notice noise when using digital zoom. In my opinion, a telephoto lens is always preferable over a macro lens as it comes in handy in taking pictures of objects that are far away. I don’t remember the last time I used macro-lens to take pictures of a bug or a flower and it seems like Realme missed the memo. If you like to take pictures to share on social media, the Realme GT Master Edition will not give you the best possible results. It does a great job at taking images with enough light, however falls flat when you’re in a dark room. Realme still needs to work a lot on its imaging quality, especially on the Realme GT Master Edition. The Final Say The Realme GT Master Edition is fairly unique looking and offers an interesting design choice to make it less boring than its competition. It offers decent performance, super-fast charging speeds and a memorable design to make it stand out from the crowd. However, the phone still needs improvement in the camera department to make it a viable option to consider. For Rs 27,999, Realme has managed to deliver an exciting product that could become a great smartphone to own in the future if the company supports it with meaningful software updates.
