  3. The Galaxy S21 is expected to launch soon and before it could even become official, the pricing for the phone may have leaked. The phone is expected to launch on January 14th and we are most likely to hear more about the phone before it launches in the coming weeks. Samsung has already confirmed that the higher end models of the Galaxy S21 will also feature support for the S Pen stylus. Today, a new leak suggests the phones will have a lower price tag than its predecessor as well. © LetsGoDigital A new leak by GalaxyClub has revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S21 series will be cheaper than the Galaxy S20 series this year. The website claims the 128GB model of the Galaxy S21 is expected to start at €879 (Rs 79,197.02), which is less than the €999 price tag of the Galaxy S20 model. The S21+ model is also expected to be priced lower than its predecessor and is expected to cost €1,079 (Rs 97,216.82). Of course, do keep in mind that these prices will be different for India as Samsung tends to practice regional pricing and does not directly convert the international price for its smartphones. However, the leak does give us a chance to speculate that even the Indian models will be cheaper than the Galaxy S20 Series. © LetsGoDigital Having said that, not all is rosy when it comes to pricing as the Galaxy S21 Ultra is expected to be a bit costlier than the Galaxy S20 Ultra this time around. The new phone is expected to cost €50 more than its predecessor, at €1,399. This could be possible as Samsung plans to bring S Pen support for the higher-end models and that somewhat justifies the slightly higher price. Samsung has also confirmed that even though S Pen features will be available on at least one of the S21 models, the South Korean giant does not plan to discontinue the Galaxy Note series in 2021. There is no news whether the new consoles will be available via smaller retailers as of now. You can pre-register your interest for the console of some of the retailers and it is worthy to point out that retailers do not provide the ability to pre-order the console right now. © YouTube/Sony PlayStation The Playstation 5 uses a customised RDNA 2 GPU by AMD featuring 36 CUs capped at 2.23GHz. The console will also support ray-tracing, near-instant loading times and 3D audio capabilities. The PS5 will have 16GB GDDR6/256-bit RAM and we're looking at a memory bandwidth of 448GB/s. 5. Last week, OnePlus announced its new OnePlus 8 series phones in an online event amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, without much fanfare or even a launch event, OnePlus has revealed how much its new phones will cost in India. Both phones i.e. the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro support 5G connectivity and are powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 865 SoC. They're just as powerful as you'd expect OnePlus phones to be, by now. Anyway, here are the variant-wise prices - © Twitter/ @DurvidImel A special 6GB variant for India OnePlus has announced that the OnePlus 8 will be available in three variants. The variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage will cost you Rs 41,999. This is a region-exclusive variant for India. The 8GB+128GB variant is priced at Rs 44,999. The most powerful variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at Rs 49,999. As for the OnePlus 8 Pro, it starts at Rs 54,999 for the 8GB+128GB variant. The 12GB+256GB costs Rs 59,999. In addition to the phones, OnePlus has also revealed that the new Bullets Wireless Z earphones will cost you Rs 1,999 in India. Overall, it's safe to say that the OnePlus 8 Series' India pricing is quite aggressive. Given the fact that the new iPhone SE has just been launched in India for Rs 42,500, it'll be interesting to see how they both will be received in the market. © Twitter/ @DurvidImel Availability Since India is currently under a complete lockdown due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, OnePlus hasn't announced any availability details yet. Given the fact that the e-commerce platforms are getting ready to ship electronic items including smartphones again soon, we hope to hear more from OnePlus very soon. So keep your eyes peeled. 6. Just weeks after the launch of the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GPU, Nvidia has now introduced its smaller sibling, the GTX 1660. It's been made available in India for the price of Rs. 21,500 and it's the cheapest Turing-based Nvidia GPU that's out right now. © Nvidia Much like the Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti, the new GTX 1660 offers Turing performance, making it comparatively better than the GTX 1060. This new card is using the same TU116 Turing GPU as the 1660 Ti, however, you're looking at 6GB DDR5 memory with a bandwidth of 192GBps, instead of DDR6. The GTX 1660 comes with 1,408 CUDA cores and has a boost clock speed of 1.8GHz. Nvidia also noted that one can easily increase the clock speed with some overclocking. On average, it's 35% faster than the GTX 1060 3GB at 1080p, and compared to the Maxwell-architecture GTX 960, it's 130% faster. In layman terms, the GTX 1660 delivers enough power to play even the modern titles at 1080p with enjoyable frame rates. © Nvidia The Nvidia GTX 1660, just like the GTX 1660 Ti, belongs to the GTX family of GPUs. So you'll be loosing out on features like ray-tracing. But considering the fact that the adaptation of ray-tracing is still in its infancy, we think you can sit out on the higher-end RTX cards for a bit longer if you are strictly on a budget. Specifications aside, the GTX 1660 also brings support for Adaptive Shading technology, which further improves performance in supported titles. You also get some game enhancing techs like Ansel, Freestyle, GameStream, ShadowPlay, and more. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 is now available from a lot of OEMs like Asus, Colorful, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Inno3D, MSI, Palit and Zotac. The pricing, as mentioned earlier, starts at Rs. 21,500, and it will vary based on partner designs and features. You can learn more about the GPU here.

  9. Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 8 a while back in New York, and today the South Korean company has announced the Indian variant today. The Galaxy Note 8 has been selling like hot cakes in the international market and it seems like the company would like to replicate the same in India. The company has announced the smartphone for INR 67,900. © BCCL The new device has a near edge-to-edge display in line with the Galaxy S8 design. The home button is embedded underneath the display just like the S8 and the display is 6.3-inches and the resolution on the Super AMOLED display is 2,960 x 1,440 (522 ppi) pixels. The Note 8 was touted as having a beautiful screen that stretches across the entire front and the “Infinity Display” has made a return with the 18.5:9 aspect ratio. © BCCL The Galaxy Note 8 also has a dual-camera setup which helps in taking portrait images where the background is blurred while the object has full focus. The rear is equipped with two 12-megapixel cameras. The wide-angle camera has an aperture of f / 1.7 and dual-pixel autofocus; the telephoto lens offers 2x optical zoom with an aperture of f / 2.4. The front facing camera has an 8-megapixel sensor just like the Galaxy S8. © YouTube This is where the Indian variant differs from the international edition of the Note 8 as it sports Samsung's own Exynos 8895 chipset. The device is equipped with 6GB of RAM and has 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded via microSD card. Samsung has also incorporated the Iris scanner for better security along with the fingerprint sensor right next to the rear camera. 10. Xiaomi announced their first smartphone that supports stock Android and a dual-rear camera setup in India today. The device is priced at Rs 14,999 and the Chinese company has partnered with Google's Android One project to make this phone a possibility. When Android One was launched in India back in 2014, the goal was to get the next billion people online by providing them with high quality, affordable phones. It seems like the dream may come true with the Mi A1. © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla The smartphone will be available to purchase from September 12 onwards via Flipkart, Mi.com and Mi Home stores. The company will also be partnering with large retails stores such as Vijay Sales, Croma, eZone, Hotspot and others to capture the offline market. If you are an Airtel customer, you can avail 200GB of additional free data with the purchase of the smartphone. The smartphone will soon launch in other regions i.e. Europe, Middle East, Africa, Mexico and Asia Pacific. © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla During the launch, Jon Gold, Director, Partner Programs, Google, said, “As phone manufacturers continue to innovate by delivering high-quality devices at accessible price points, keeping the inside of one's phone innovative, fresh and secure is critical to a great experience. We're extending our commitment to Android One by working with more partners to build phones that run a software experience designed by Google.” © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla The Mi A1, in terms of specs, has a 5.5-inch full HD resolution display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage (which is expandable), and a 3000 mAh battery. The rear camera has two 12MP+ 12MP lenses while one being telephoto and the other being a wide angle lens. © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla The Mi A1 also has the ‘bokeh'/portrait mode which is the key highlight of the device. Thanks to the dual camera setup, users can now take portrait shots where the background is blurred out while keeping the subject in focus to give the DSLR effect. 11. It's been a while that we've seen a Galaxy Note device since the last one was caught up in a fiasco that could not be ignored. But, Samsung is back with a BANG, as they announced the Galaxy Note 8 today at an event in New York. A lot of things transpired since the Note 7 fiasco took place last year and Samsung announced the highly successful Galaxy S8 today. Clearly, they are back with a brand new flagship device. (c) Samsung The brand new Note 8 will come in four colours i.e. midnight black, maple gold, deep sea and orchid grey. The new device has a near edge-to-edge display as many of the previous leaks suggested and is in line with the Galaxy S8 design. (c) Twitter Samsung has also adopted the dual-camera setup for the Note 8 which aids the device in taking bokeh shots. The rear is equipped with two 12-megapixel cameras. The wide-angle camera has an aperture of f / 1.7 and dual-pixel autofocus; the telephoto lens offers 2x optical zoom with an aperture of f / 2.4. Both videos and photos will benefit from the dual OIS technology. The front facing camera has an 8-megapixel camera just like the Galaxy S8. The phone can also shoot with both the telephoto and wide-angle lens at the same time, in a feature called Dual Capture. Since the Note 7 suffered issues due to a faulty battery, Samsung is playing it safe with a 3,300 mAh capacity which can be fast charged via USB Type-C. The device also supports wireless charging and it seems like the Note 8 has gone through a similar 8-point safety check as the Galaxy S8. The Note 8 has Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor under the hood, however, this variant will not be coming to India. Much like the Galaxy S8, the Indian variant is expected to have Exynos 8895 chipset. The device is equipped with 6GB of RAM and has 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded via microSD card. Samsung has also incorporated the Iris scanner for better security along with the awkwardly placed fingerprint sensor. The device also has facial recognition capabilities. On the left side of the new Note is the Bixby button which launches the Samsung assistant. (c) Samsung The Note 8 has a multi-window feature where you can pair two apps that can run simultaneously. This can be used to multitask more effectively such as copying things from one app to the other. The S-Pen also makes a return and can be used to take notes right from the lock screen. The Note 8 has an 'always on' display which makes it possible to scribble down notes. (c) Samsung You can even create animated GIFs with the S-Pen and send them as messages to people. Here are the official specs of the Samsung Note 8:- DIMENSIONS: 162.5 x 74.8 x 8.6 mm WEIGHT: 195 g BATTERY SIZE: 3300 mAh SCREEN SIZE: 6.3 in DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY: AMOLED SCREEN: 2960 x 1440 pixels (522 ppi) FRONT CAMERA: 8 megapixels REAR CAMERA: 12 megapixels FLASHLIGHT: LED ANDROID VERSION: 7.1.1 - Nougat RAM: 6 GB INTERNAL STORAGE: 64 GB REMOVABLE STORAGE: microSD NUMBER OF CORES: 8 MAX. CLOCK SPEED: 2.3 GHz CONNECTIVITY: HSPA, LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0 Samsung has shown off their flagship killer today and it is too early to say if it'll topple the iPhone 8, however, it is interesting to see how the device will perform since the Galaxy S8 is now the world's highest selling Android smartphone. We can only know for sure when Apple announces the iPhone 8 in September. Until then, we just gots to wait and see!
  12. The world needs greater transparency on the pricing of medicines, and an overhaul of some approaches, in order to increase access to life-saving drugs, global health experts said on Thursday. Drugmakers are under growing fire, given a wave of new treatments for serious conditions like cancer and hepatitis C coming to market at sky-high prices, putting them out of reach of many patients and national health services. "The problem has become global," said Suzanne Hill, head of essential medicines at the World Health Organisation (WHO). "Many of these (drugs) are now on the WHO model list of essential medicines but their high price is limiting access," she added. Hill was speaking after a one-day forum on fair pricing sponsored by the UN health agency and the Dutch government in Amsterdam. The meeting – involving governments, industry, and civil society – was convened as a first step to drawing up concrete plans on drug pricing. WHO assistant director-general Marie-Paule Kieny said there was agreement that industry needed reasonable returns on research and development, but governments should play a stronger role in setting prices and directing the drug research agenda. A lack of transparency on drug development costs, how prices are set, and the varying amounts charged for the same medicines in different countries are all viewed as obstacles to building a fairer system. "More transparency is absolutely vital to give us evidence for future action," Kieny told reporters. 'Serious reservations' Drugmakers are acutely sensitive to the issue after Donald Trump accused them of "getting away with murder" on prices shortly before he was inaugurated as US president – and it is also rising up the agenda in many other countries. In a bid to placate payers, patients and politicians in the all-important US market, several companies – most recently Sanofi – have pledged to limit price rises there. Still, firms remain reluctant to specify exactly how they come up with drug prices and prefer to stress the value that their medicines bring. So-called value-based pricing has become a mantra for much of the industry, but Kieny said she had "serious reservations" about a system that essentially puts a value on a life and then allows a drug to be priced up to that level. "We think value-based pricing is not feasible for a product that is indispensable," she said. Thomas Cueni, head of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations, said the Amsterdam meeting had been constructive, despite differences of opinions. "What we would recommend firmly is not to shoot for the stars and get bogged down on ideological debate, but rather focus on one or two areas where there is consensus to think outside the box, like antimicrobial resistance and shortages," he said. There is general agreement that new market models are needed to promote the discovery of novel antibiotics, which may end up being reserved for emergency use. Shortages of some off-patent generic medicines, caused by unsustainably low prices for some old drugs, is another shared concern.
