David Dhawan’s Aankhen, featuring Govinda, Chunky Panday, Ritu Shivpuri, and Raageshwari Loomba in the lead roles, was released in 1993 and turned out to be a huge hit at the box office. Fans loved Govinda's double role in the film while the song O Laal Dupatte Wali too became a rage. However, did you know Aamir Khan disliked the film? Yes, you read that right! During an interview at that time, he even criticized Aankhen for being "too crude" and "vulgar". Aamir, who is also called 'Mr. Perfectionist', is known for choosing scripts that earn critical acclaim as well as box office success. Also, he never thinks twice before sharing his honest opinion about a film. In the 90s, he did the same in the case of Aankhen as well. In an interview with a Vancouver-based media portal, the Ghajini star opened up about Govinda's Aankhen and said, "David Dhawan jo film ke director hain, he’s a close friend of mine, and film mujhe personally pasand nahi aayi. Shayad David ko ye baat maloom bhi hogi, aur kyun itni badi hit hui ye main bhi nahi jaanta. Meri ye feeling thi ki, the film was too crude, for me it was vulgar, some of the scenes, toh isiliye mujhe pasand nahi aayi. But maybe the audiences liked it, I don’t know". In another bizarre episode, a woman has taken her bond with a chimpanzee at the zoo a little far than we usually expect. It was too much that the zoo authorities have now banned her from visiting the 38-year-old male chimpanzee named Chita in Antwerp, Belgium. According to reports by Times Now, the zoo authorities have termed their close relationship unhealthy for the chimpanzee. Adie Timmermans has been visiting Chita for the past four years now and according to her they have developed a strong bond and they love each other. Not only this, she also said that both of them are having an affair with each other. © Unsplash The zoo authorities also said that Chita has already been excluded by other chimps from the group. In an interview with the new channel ATV, Timmermans said, "I love that animal and he loves me. I haven't got anything else. Why do they want to take that away? We're having an affair, I'll just say. Other dozens of visitors are allowed to make contact. Then why not me?" The zoo told Timmermans, “An animal that is too focused on people is less respected by its peers. We want to give him the chance to be as happy as possible." The spokesperson also said, "When Chita is constantly busy with visitors, the other monkeys ignore him and don't consider him part of the group, even though that is important. Speaking to Radio 2 Antwerp, Sarah Lafaut, curator at the Antwerp Zoo, said, "Of course we are happy when our visitors feel so involved with the animals, but animal welfare comes first here. While speaking to Geo News, Mai said that she is heart-broken over the incident which took place in Multan, where a Panchayat allegedly ordered ?revenge rape? of a 16-year-old girl. ?Such incidents remind me of what happened with me in 2002,? she said. Mai said that the flaw lies within the weakness in the law and lack of implementation puts hurdles in the way of justice. The criminals have no fear of being caught due to political influence which tilts the matter in their favour. ?Either the perpetrators don?t get caught or get bail in such cases,? she said. She further said that to prevent such cases she along with the NGOs have done everything in their power but not to much avail. The government needs to do something concrete, said Mai. Mai while highlighting the plight of the weak said that women don?t know much about the law and their legal rights. For awareness, government needs to begin efforts from the council level, she said. Even slight implementation of the laws would make a huge difference, said Mukhtar Mai. Mai was gang raped in 2002 over the orders of a Panchayat in the Muzaffargarh district. The men had raped Mai -- with the approval of the village council -- as a punishment after her 12-year-old brother was falsely accused of having an illicit relationship with a woman from the dominant clan in the village. -

Photo: AFP LOS ANGELES: Fifteen years after her horrific gang rape by a local clan in her village in Pakistan, Mukhtar Mai is reliving her ordeal -- and courageousness -- through a US opera inspired by her story. "I was very emotional when I first started watching it and began reliving the incident in my mind," Mai, 37, told AFP on Friday, after attending the Los Angeles premiere of "Thumbprint." Photo: AFP "But then as the opera progressed, it became easier to watch and I felt more courage," she said in Urdu, speaking through a translator. The opera, by composer Kamala Sankaram and librettist Susan Yankowitz, recounts Mai´s 2002 rape and her decision to defy her attackers and take them to court -- an unusual move in male-dominated society, where a woman who suffers such a crime often commits suicide rather than endure the stigma and shame associated with it. "Thumbprint" first opened in New York in 2014 but Mai had never seen the opera. She traveled this week from her home in the remote Pakistani village of Meerwala to attend the West Coast premiere. While the story onstage ends when Mai´s rapists have been sentenced to death, in reality her attackers walk free -- seemingly going about their daily life with total impunity after their sentences were overturned on appeal. The men had raped Mai -- with the approval of the village council -- as a punishment after her 12-year-old brother was falsely accused of having an illicit relationship with a woman from the dominant clan in the village. Photo: AFP "My rapists live across from my house and I try not to cross paths with them," said Mai, who used compensation money from her case to start several schools and a women´s shelter in her village. "When I walk past, they taunt me and make catcalls." In an added strange twist to her story, the children of her rapists attend her school, and the daughters of some of the village elders who ordered her rape have sought refuge at her shelter. "Even though some members of my own family were outraged, I told them I could not turn away the kids as the school is here to serve everyone in the community," she said. Mai, who married in 2009 and has three children, acknowledged that her story had empowered women in her village and beyond, giving them courage to stand for their rights. But she said she held little hope that the legal system in her country would ever render her justice. "All four of the men who raped me and the two village elders who ordered the rape are free," she said. "And they will only learn that what they did is a crime if they are punished." Daily threats She said she had grown tired of being the woman everyone points to because of her ordeal, in contrast to her rapists who are unconcerned and will likely never pay for their crime. "Why doesn´t anyone confront them, why doesn´t anyone point them out in the street and say, ´These are the people who committed horrific acts against Mukhtar Mai?´" She said she receives threatening messages daily on her telephone, Facebook page or in person and is now afraid for the safety of her children. "I have reported nearly 35 such threatening calls and incidents and only one person was arrested, but even he was let out on bail," she said. "I want to make it known that if anything happens to me or my children and family members, the Pakistani government is responsible." As for the opera inspired by her story, she doubts it could ever be shown in Pakistan, where it would certainly hit a nerve. But, she said, "I would like it to be shown everywhere." "And I would like for the people who committed this crime to be identified and come face to face with what they did."
