  3. Premier League giants Chelsea are up for sale and investors from around the world are looking at it as a wonderful opportunity to foray into the most popular sport on the planet. With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Chelsea’s current owner Roman Abramovich has found himself in troubled waters which has forced him to sell the club that he bought back in 2013. Reports are saying that Roman Abramovich has put Chelsea up for sale with a asking price of $4 billion. He has been a fantastic owner & will be such a shame when he sells the club. He loves the club & because of unfortunate circumstances. pic.twitter.com/iVoWxsxdtJ — Frank Khalid (@FrankKhalidUK) March 2, 2022 The Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss, during an interview with Swiss daily Blick, revealed that Abramovich himself offered him and three other people the chance to buy the club. The prospect of becoming the owner of the reigning European champions is a lucrative offer that no investor in the world can resist and that’s why we are seeing people from across the globe showing their interest. #Exclusive: Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss is considering a purchase of @ChelseaFC, as he reveals today in an interview @Blickch The owner and Russian oligarch Roman Abramovitsch is afraid of sanctions and wants to sell the club to Wyss, among others.https://t.co/ICkPYax9F0 — Nicola Imfeld (@nicola_imfeld) March 1, 2022 There are so many reports doing rounds on the internet that it’s becoming increasingly hard to tell the genuine one from mere speculations. For every genuine report, there are multiple reports that make little to no sense. One report that has been doing rounds on social media is of a Pakistani businessman Javed Afridi, the owner of Pakistan Super League franchise Peshawar Zalmi, is interested in buying the West London club. Peshawar Zalmi's owner is interested in buying Chelsea Football Club. Minimum 30,400cr (INR) are needed to buy Chelsea. (Reported by Khaleej Times). — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) March 3, 2022 According to the Free Press Journal, Afridi has himself confirmed that he is exploring his options to buy the Blues. “Yes, we are interested and exploring,” Afridi was quoted as saying by FPJ. View this post on Instagram Another report in Khaleej Times claimed that Afridi has already met with a sports and legal agency in the UK to plan his future course of action. “Afridi’s team held a meeting this afternoon (Wednesday) with a sports and legal agency in the UK. There’s a bunch of investors who are interested in Chelsea Football Club,” the source said. View this post on Instagram “They believe it’s the right time and opportunity to invest in football. And someone from Asia should come and invest. They are in a negotiation with them right now.” With Chelsea being one of the biggest brands in the world of football, the asking price has been reportedly set to $4 billion and that’s excluding the debt ($1.5bn) which Abramovich lent to the club in the last 19 years. Some believe that any investor or group of investors looking to buy the club will have to shell out at least $2billion, if not more. The Pakistani fans, however, are over the moon with this news and they have started celebrating as if the deal is already in their bag. Soon there was a war of words on Twitter as Indian people started trolling Pakistani supporters and Afridi for thinking way beyond their pay grade. 5. The Indian cricket team lost the first two of the three matches of the ODI series against South Africa and with that, the hopes of winning the contest have gone out the window for the Men in Blue. As a result, skipper KL Rahul has been facing a lot of criticism for lacking the leadership qualities to run the squad in international matches. During India’s stay in South Africa, Rahul has been acted as the team captain for three matches. The second Test and the two ODI matches in Paarl and in all three of those games, the Indian squad has lost. View this post on Instagram Even though he has been decent as a batter, his choices as captain have left the critics scratching their heads. For instance, making the all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer have his debut in the first ODI but not letting him bowl even a single over or not making any changes in the team ahead of the second match even though it was clear as day that things didn’t work out in the first match. Under such circumstances, the owner of the unnamed Lucknow franchise in the Indian Premier League addressed the fans and said that he was “pretty much impressed” with KL Rahul’s captaincy. Lucknow owner said, "I'm pretty much impressed with KL Rahul's leadership skills". — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) January 21, 2022 Obviously, it was clear that the owner said so because they recently bought KL Rahul and announced that he will be leading the squad during the 2022 season of the tournament. However, Indian cricket fans went on Twitter to ask whether he was serious about being impressed with Rahul’s leadership or was it more of a “saving-face” activity: The timing of the announcement is so bad. — Saransh (@CricSaransh) January 21, 2022Kl's reaction to this pic.twitter.com/wr34iyqlBi — Destroyer (@Destroy21627138) January 21, 2022Kaunse kl rahul ki baat kar rahe ho bhai — Mehran मेहरान (@mehranzaidi) January 21, 2022That owner must really check his eyes then — Surya (@Surya_One8) January 21, 2022Kindly someone tell him that what he's watching is not cricket — (@Rohit_GOAT264) January 21, 2022 Rahul is also infamous for captaining the Punjab Kings for the past four seasons but failing to make it into the playoffs even once. While there are a lot of issues with the Punjab franchise and Rahul may have gotten away after not showing results as a leader, his problems as the Team India skipper are beginning to show and people are already losing confidence in him. KL Rahul and Co. will be playing the third and final match of the series on January 23 in Cape Town, even though its outcome will not change the fact that the Proteas have already won the series. 6. As Virat Kohli left the Test captaincy, it opened the doors for a never-ending debate -- who will be his successor in the longest format of the game. A few names that fans and cricket pundits are focussing on are the likes of Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin and KL Rahul, who led the team in Johannesburg in Kohli's absence. Another name that a few fans are speculating might be in the race, is that of young wicket-keeper batter, Rishabh Pant. Pant slammed a century in a losing cause in the second innings of the third Test which India lost and eventually, lost the series 1-2. It ended in heartbreak last night, but I could not be more proud of leading this team of exceptional warriors. We battled hard through the season, and while we may have fallen short on some days, we always gave 100%. pic.twitter.com/IRPGqsmPT0 — Rishabh Pant (@RishabhPant17) October 14, 2021 Pant, who captained Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), got the backing of his franchise owner Parth Jindal for the all-important role. DC's owner took to Twitter and batted for Pant to be named the vice-captain so that seniors like Rohit Sharma and Ashwin can groom him to take the job in the next couple of years. "Appointing @RishabhPant17 the Vice Captain of the test team and grooming him for the job would be the best thing to do in my opinion,in the interim having someone like @ImRo45 or @ashwinravi99 lead for two years and then hand over to Pant who is an all format player would be best," Parth Jindal tweeted. This kind of open lobbying is very dangerous for Indian cricket. This sends wrong message to rest of players. — Don Corleone (@Saffron_Archer1) January 18, 2022Bhai tu chhup reh ! Won’t be surprised to see a response from Lucknow — AK (@rwamit) January 18, 2022Can the franchise owners stop lobbying for their players please.... You were fuming on Twitter when Shreyas Iyer wasn't picked for some tournament yet you yourself didn't retain him. There's a system and let the system do it's work. Stop pressurizing or influencing the SC. — Akshay Ganapathy (@DGAkshay) January 18, 2022bcoz he is ur captain and if he becomes indian captain it will increase ur brand value right? whereas in case of jasprit or rahul or rohit it neither contributes to dc development right? — Vijay (@Virendervijay88) January 18, 2022Will you stop interfering in this ? Stick with DC only. Don't need to give opinions on what decision should BCCI take. — Tharshini (@Tharshini_1) January 18, 2022It is not the first time that Parth Jindal has expressed his views on social media and caused a storm. He had previously criticised the selectors ahead of the T20 World Cup last year when the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan, who were part of the Delhi Capitals squad, failed to make the cut for the marquee tournament. The selectors must be wondering why they made some of the decisions they did - our T20 World Cup squad doesn’t have some of our best batsman - any guesses who? @DelhiCapitals @BCCI — Parth Jindal (@ParthJindal11) September 26, 2021 While franchise cricket has helped Indian cricket to prepare a solid bench strength, incidents like these where a franchise owner is openly vouching for his team's player to take a leadership role, is a worrying sign for Indian cricket. 7. The co-owner of the Delhi Capitals franchise in the Indian Premier League, Parth Jindal recently tweeted in favour of the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, who has found himself in the middle of a controversy thanks to a notorious press conference conducted by former white-ball captain, Virat Kohli. In his online post, Jindal said that Ganguly’s credibility as an advocate of Indian cricket remains pristine and nobody could or should question the fact that he’d want anything but the great good of the game in the country. Jindal added that the ‘Prince of Kolkata’ would never do anything to risk or compromise the heritage of cricket and that the whole controversy must come to an end as soon as possible. Dadas credibility is undeniable and for anyone saying anything against @SGanguly99 needs to understand what Dada has done for Indian cricket and that he would never compromise Indian cricket for anything ever. Hope this gets resolved as right now the only loser is Indian cricket. — Parth Jindal (@ParthJindal11) December 16, 2021 Jindal’s pro-Ganguly tweet managed to get him into a lot of trouble with the fans of the Indian cricket team who were supporting and were in favour of what Virat Kohli had said at the conference and added that this was nothing but a way for him to get in the good books of the BCCI President. Shameless uncle, do something there BFC is losing, pay attention to that first.😤 — 🆎ವಿನೋದ್.||(ॐ)||.VINOD👑 (@Vinod68480035) December 16, 2021Kohli has been fired as ODI skipper earlier in the month, and Ganguly asserted the next day that the BCCI had tried to make a "personal request" to Kohli about not resigning as T20I captain in September and that the selectors were forced to remove him from the 50-overs position since they wished a solitary leader for all white-ball formats. During the press conference, however, Kohli went entirely against what Ganguly had told the media (https://www.mensxp.com/sports/cricket/97923-virat-kohli-press-conference-calls-out-bcci-sourav-ganguly-lies.html) only hours before boarding a plane to South Africa for a Test and ODI series. The 33-year-old said that when he informed the Indian cricket board of his desire to stand down as T20I captain in order to manage his workload and focus on maintaining his peak form as a batter, the organisation viewed the news positively and expressed their support for the move. Nobody told him he could keep being captain in the game's shortest format. A day after Kohli’s words in front of the media threw the spotlight at Ganguly, the latter didn’t say a lot about the recent developments, but whatever he did say, was enough for the fans to get further involved in what this controversy leads to. “I have no comment to make. BCCI will deal with it appropriately," he told News 18, which sounded like a threat to Kohli, according to several fans online. View the full article

  10. Days after winning the rights to own the Ahmedabad franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the US-based private equity firm CVC Capital Partners has come under scanner after it emerged that it had invested heavily in betting and gambling companies. Taking to the micro-blogging site, the former IPL chairman Lalit Modi, who brought the IPL to life back in 2008, slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for awarding the rights to a firm that owns a “big betting company”. i guess betting companies can buy a @ipl team. must be a new rule. apparently one qualified bidder also owns a big betting company. what next - does @BCCI not do there homework. what can Anti corruption do in such a case ? #cricket — Lalit Kumar Modi (@LalitKModi) October 26, 2021 “I guess betting companies can buy a @ipl team. must be a new rule. apparently one qualified bidder also owns a big betting company. what next - does @BCCI not do their homework. what can Anti corruption do in such a case?” Modi tweeted. The CVC Capitals is a major player in international sport and has made huge investments all over the globe. The firm owned Formula 1 between 2006 and 2017. In August this year, it paid a staggering $3 billion to buy a 10 percent stake in Spanish top-flight football league La Liga, which is home to two of the biggest clubs in the world Real Madrid and Barcelona. © Twitter IPL The IPL has been marred by betting and match-fixing controversy in the past and this kind of negative coverage will only spoil its effort to restore its clean image. According to a report published in Outlook, the BCCI has already taken cognizance of the matter and have reached out to the private equity firm to find out if their association with the betting companies would lead to any conflict of interest issue later on. © Adani Group The same report also claimed that this development has put Adani Group on alert and they are already weighing their options and will be the front-runners to bag the rights if the CVC is shown the exit door. Submitting a bid of Rs 5,625 crore, the CVC outbid the local favourites Adani, who had placed a bid of Rs 5,100 crore. The highest bid was made by the Sanjiv Gokenka’s RPSG Group but they chose to own the Lucknow-based outfit, leaving Ahmedabad for the second-highest bidder. The RPSG Group, which previously owned the Rising Pune Supergiant, committed to pay Rs 7,090 crore over the next 10 years. © Reuters As this news made its way to the social media, the fans started praising the Adanis, who could make a backdoor entry, for playing smartly and bringing Shah Rukh Khan’s famous dialogue from Baazigar -- Haar Ke Jeetne Vale To Baazigar Kehte Hai-- to life. Some people even pointed out the BCCI’s hypocrisy (). One one hand, the Indian board has brought in several fantasy platforms on board as sponsors and is making money, on the other hand they are targeting the international firm for investing in betting companies. That is going to Adani the next highest bidder. Well played modi ji — Baked (@Baked34575207) October 26, 2021Khel gya Adani — Akshans¹⁷࿗ (@Rp17Akshans) October 26, 2021waah Modiji waah... Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ is a fictional survival Korean drama series that invites people in need of money to play a bunch of children’s games and win a whopping amount of 45.6 billion won ($38.31 million). © Siren Pictures Although the game turned deadly and the players who got evicted were shot dead, the show’s theme had all fans intrigued about whether such a game could exist in real life. Some people did more than just sit and wonder. © Siren Pictures They called up the phone number printed on the business card that the Squid Game associate (name known) gives to all potential players. In one scene where Seong Gi-hun (played by actor Lee Jung-jae) flips the card, the eight-digit number is shown on the screen. © Siren Pictures The strange thing is that the number is very much real and belongs to a woman named Kim Gil-young who is getting thousands of calls and messages after the show. She runs a dessert shop in Seongju county and has been using the number for 10 years. She said she couldn’t change her number due to the contacts of clients. © SBS News She said her life has been disrupted as she is getting calls and texts day and night from callers who are asking to be invited to the show. 12. After losing to defending champions Mumbai Indians, Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals have been all but knocked out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The franchise that won the first-ever IPL trophy has been mediocre since then, never reaching the final ever again. © Twitter/Shivam Dube After yet another disappointing season, former England captain and cricket expert Michael Vaughan has taken a dig at the franchise and its owners saying they are “brilliant at talking” but are terrible at managing the team. I mean I know a lot about them because they have written a book with Simon Hughes... you know, how the IPL works and running a franchise, it's a great read but you kind of look at the book and think 'This is a great read but you haven't won since the first year but how are you telling everyone how to do it?” Vaughan said in a Cricbuzz video. What it means. pic.twitter.com/GLHeEdcPeT — Rajasthan Royals (@rajasthanroyals) October 2, 2021 “If it's so easy and so obvious how to run it and produce 'Moneyball', pick players and use data and stats, surely you should be more competitive! Surely you should win more games of cricket (chuckles). They're brilliant at talking but not very good at playing the game,” he added. Looking at Rajasthan’s recent campaigns, it’s safe to say that they have failed terribly, finishing eighth and seventh in the previous two seasons. And as things stand right now, they should consider themselves lucky if they somehow manage to crawl out of the bottom two. View this post on Instagram From Jaydev Unadkat to Ben Stokes to Chris Morris, Rajasthan have always splashed huge amounts on signing players in the auction but they have never been able to get the best out of them. For example, Shivam Dube was bought for Rs 4.40 crore at auction prior to this season but has only featured in four matches. © Twitter/Shivam Dube All this suggests that more than making smart picks the franchise enters the auction with a mindset of making headlines by splashing huge amounts on one or two marquee players. Clearly, this strategy of theirs has failed big-time and unless they change it they are not going to achieve the success that they want. View the full article
