  4. Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan decided to part ways after more than a decade and announced their divorce. For the past few years, Malaika has been dating actor Arjun Kapoor and Arbaaz Khan on the other hand is in a relationship with Giorgia Andriani. But, it wasn’t easy for Malaika as it was one of the lowest phases of her life. View this post on InstagramTalking to Bollywood Bubble, she shared that she turned to yoga and meditation to sort her life post separation with ex-husband Arbaaz Khan. She said, “I can’t be like that because like I said, my decision was going to impact all the lives around me. When I say mine, at the end of the day, we were two people. As a couple, as husband and wife, we together decided that this was what was best. But yes, it was definitely the most difficult, the lowest phase in my life where I probably did turn to a lot of aspects, like yoga, meditation, because I felt that these were outlets that would help me channelise better, that would help me sort whatever upheaval that I was dealing with internally." Here’s the full interview with Bollywood Bubble: In the same interview, Malaika revealed that she even thought about how society would respond and how her 19-year-old son Arhaan would react to this situation. “I went through my personal struggles. I went through separation, I went through having to deal with family pressures, I went through having to deal with how would my child cope with it, how would I cope with it, how would society be, will I be able to work, will I be able to just be myself. All these thoughts went through my head. I think that probably for me was my lowest in life because it was such a huge upheaval in my life and such a change for me to deal with. It was not just me personally, there was family involved, there was my kid involved, there were so many other aspects involved", she added. View this post on Instagram As people in her case are anyways judgemental, they didn’t spare her for these statements too. They started to bash her for dating Arjun again and also suggested that it was a wrong decision to move out of her marriage. Here are the reactions: © Instagram © Instagram © Instagram © Instagram © Instagram It’s sad to see how people are maligning her image again and again. We need to start normalizing divorce as parting ways is much better than being stuck in a failed marriage. People question her for dating Arjun but Arbaaz too has moved on and is in a relationship. Arjun and Malaika’s relationship has been going strong since the couple made it official in 2019. The two have always been brutally judged for their relationship as they are questioned about the age gap between them. It’s high time we put an end to trolling because it’s her choice. The actor, who made his acting debut with Biwi Ho To Aisi in 1988, is counted among the most successful leading actors of Hindi cinema. Apart from delivering many blockbusters, Salman is also known for being the controversy's favourite child. Whether it's his love life or professional rivalry and fights, the Dabangg star often hits headlines for his controversial comments. View this post on Instagram On the occasion of his birthday today, let's take look at some of his controversial statements: 1. 'Raped Woman' comment during Sultan promotionsSalman played the role of a wrestler in the hit 2016 film, featuring Anushka Sharma as the leading lady. During promotions, in an interview, Salman said, "When I used to walk out of that ring, it used to be actually like a raped woman walking out". For this statement, Salman received huge criticism from women’s rights activists. 2. 'Bh*ngi' commentWhile promoting Tiger Zinda Hai, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Salman had allegedly made a casteist slut on a TV show. The Antim: The Final Truth actor had compared his dancing skills to a "bh*ngi". While Salman had loosely used the term, Valmiki Samaj wasn't pleased with the statement. Due to this, a complaint too was registered against him. Later, his co-star Katrina Kaif too invited legal trouble for the same reason. 3. 'Mazdoor' comment on KatrinaIn 2016, Salman called Katrina the most hard-working actress he had met at that point in time. Stressing on how hardworking the actress is, he used the word 'mazdoor' (labourer) for the Rajneeti actress. Katrina, who was with Salman at the event, too was surprised by this statement. 4. 'Depression is a luxury' commentIn 2018, Salman had talked about being indulged in work all the time. During the conversation, he had mentioned depression being a luxury. He said, "I see a lot of people getting depressed and emotional, but I can’t afford that luxury of being depressed or sad or emotional because no matter what I am going through, it works against me". 5. 'I'm a virgin' commentDuring an appearance on Koffee With Karan 4, Salman Khan informed Karan Johar that he's still a virgin. He added that he was saving himself for marriage. 9. Sharib Hashmi’s character JK Talpade from The Family Man 2 has left an indelible impression on the mind of people who have been rooting for his performance and want to see more of him. He dreamt of being an actor since his childhood but it took many years for him to finally make a mark. He had his own insecurities that held him back from following his passion but he didn’t give up and has fought all the odds to achieve the success he has now. View this post on InstagramIn an interview with PTI, he gave three statements that make us believe that dreaming big is not something people need to run away from and actors should try and let go of their insecurities to chase their dreams. 1. His Insecurities About His HeightAfter featuring in supporting roles, actor Sharib Hashmi finally found his big-ticket as a lead character in Filmistaan. He was insecure about his height as he felt that many supporting actors were taller than him. He always thought his height will be a major obstacle but things have changed now as the audience roots more for talent than the stereotypes of conventional looks for a hero. He said, “When I grew up, I was just 5'4 feet and felt that I couldn’t become a hero, so I thought I don't want to become anyone else. But I wanted to do something in this line so I worked as an assistant director and started writing non-fiction shows for MTV and Channel V.” Now, he is an actor that people are getting inspiration from and this way, he has proved that actors can win over their insecurities. View this post on Instagram 2. Financial CrunchWhen he followed his passion for acting, he was surrounded by financial insecurities. He fought with all the ups and downs and continued to find the way that led him to success. “There have been a lot of ups and downs in my career. I decided against taking up acting and faced daily rejections. I was in a very bad state financially and finished all my savings,” said the actor. The financial crunch forced Sharib to return as a writer to television, but soon he got the offer to work in Yash Chopra's 2012 romance drama Jab Tak Hai Jaan. 3. No Insecurities About The Length Of RoleWe have seen reports of many actors dropping projects because of the length of the roles. Here we have Sharib who has won over this insecurity too and believes that it’s more to do with the depth of the character than the length. He said, “I don’t want to put myself into any category that I want to be the main lead or play the most important role. Length of the role doesn’t matter, what I look at it, is how pivotal it is to the story and who is the team on board.” View this post on InstagramTalking about the success of his show, he added, “The first season had set a benchmark for itself and it was an advantage for all of us. Personally, I received a lot of love for season one, but this time the reaction has been crazy. This is happening for the first time in my career. I am on cloud nine. Things are out of control. I didn’t expect it to surpass my expectations and I am feeling very emotional about it. For years I was craving for recognition and I am glad I got it from JK.” His statements make an impact, and every inspiring actor can cue from his struggle to make their journey worth it. 10. Ranbir Kapoor and his relationships have always been the talk of the town. In his stint in Bollywood, we have seen him having relationships with many of his co-stars and the fans were always eager for him to get married but that never happened. Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor were also rumored to be dating but no one confirmed their relationship and always said that they were friends. However, Sonam Kapoor had once said that Karan Johar’s chat show, Koffee with Karan had affected her relationship with Ranbir Kapoor. She expressed that what she said on the show affected her friendship with her Saawariya co-star. © YouTube Sonam and Deepika Padukone appeared on the show in 2010 and they were asked many questions about Ranbir. Sonam Kapoor said on the show that she wasn’t sure if he would be a great boyfriend. Later, Sonam told Filmfare in an interview, "Honestly, I’m so fed up with this whole Koffee With Karan thing now that I don’t want to discuss it. Yes, it has affected my relationship. Some people get away with saying something. Unfortunately, I didn’t and I have to bear the brunt of it." During the show, Karan asked Sonam what she thought of Ranbir, to which she responded saying, “Ranbir is a great friend but I don’t know if he’s a great boyfriend. I have known Ranbir all my life and as a boyfriend, I don’t know, I mean, she (Deepika) did a great job hanging onto him for so long.” © Viral Bhayani However, Ranbir Kapoor later expressed how these statements had affected him, he said, “Koffee With Karan started a barrage of negativity in my life, as you must be knowing.” He added that he has no preference and would go on the show with anyone, including ‘Sonam and Deepika together.” He also said, “I didn't expect all of the negativity that came with it. Till today, there is so much of negativity that surrounds me. Certain fans of certain actors turned against me but it is fine. I would probably like to win all of them with my work than with just an interview on Koffee With Karan.” What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below! View the full article
  11. The Suo Moto case that was argued in the Supreme Court Of India this week, regarding the government’s handling of the COVID-19 Pandemic has gone viral on Twitter, newsrooms and social media. © BCCL Justice Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud, the justice heading the three-judge bench hearing the case, made a series of scathing remarks that spoke volumes about the manner in which the government has managed the pandemic, and how it is managing the vaccination drive. © BCCL We list out some of the statements that Justice Chandrachud made at the hearing. © Wiki Commons Bharat is a union of states.Justice Chandrachud: I was reading the Constitution. Article 1 says that Bharat is a Union of States. When the Constitution says that, then we follow the federal rule. Then Government of India has to procure the vaccines and distribute it. Individual States are left in a lurch. — Live Law (@LiveLawIndia) May 31, 2021 One of the opening remarks that Justice Chandrachud made was in response to the fact that states have been asked to procure vaccines on their own, as the central govt maintains that health is a “state” matter. BMC has more funds than a state. What about states like UP? Will you be negotiating or will they be left on their own?Justice Chandrachud: Look at BOMBAY Municipal Corporation. They have funds which could be more than a State. But, what about States such as UP ? Will you be negotiating or will they be left on their own ? The amicus can formulate the issues and you can respond to that. — Live Law (@LiveLawIndia) May 31, 2021 This was again in light of the fact that state governments have been asked to procure vaccines on their own. This statement highlights the budgetary disparity between various states, and whether the central government will allay these disparities. Why do the states have to pay a higher price?Justice Chandrachud: If this is the rationale, why do the States have to pay a higher price ? You have to ensure that vaccines are available at the same price across the nation. You can’t have a price at the Centre. #SupremeCourtofIndia #COVID19 — Live Law (@LiveLawIndia) May 31, 2021 This is a sentiment that has been shared by a number of state heads, as well as political pundits. Is it realistically possible for people in rural areas to start registering on this app?Justice Chandrachud: What about the digital divide ? Everyone has to register on COWIN. Is it realistically possible for people in rural areas to start registering on this app ? How do you expect them to do that ? Our own law clerks and friends have tried. — Live Law (@LiveLawIndia) May 31, 2021 This becomes a scathing indictment of the manner in which the CoWIN & Aarogya Setu apps have been made mandatory to get vaccinated. Seriously, what becomes of people who aren’t able to register themselves on either of the two platforms. You keep saying Digital India, Digital India, but you are not aware of the ground realities.Justice Chandrachud: You keep saying that situation is dynamic, but you have to keep your ears on the ground. You keep saying digital India, digital India, but you are not aware of the ground realities. A poor worker from Jharkhand has to go all the way to a common centre ? — Live Law (@LiveLawIndia) May 31, 2021 While Digital India was an exemplary initiative it has its drawbacks and limitations. Justice Chandrachud pointed that out with some great effect. You can’t just say that you’re the Centre and you know what’s right.Justice Chandrachud: We are not framing policy. There's an order of 30th April that these are the problems. You will be flexible. You can’t just say that you’re the Centre and you know what’s right. We have a strong arm to come down on this. — Live Law (@LiveLawIndia) May 31, 2021 This was a very serious comment on the supposed symbiotic relationship that the Central Government and State Governments are supposed to share. Digital literacy in India is far from perfect.Justice Chandrachud: If we say there is a problem, we expect you to look into. Digital literacy in India is far from perfect. I am the Chairman of the e-Committee. I have seen the problems which afflict this. You have to be flexible and keep your ears on the ground. — Live Law (@LiveLawIndia) May 31, 2021Again an indictment of the fact that in order to get vaccinated, one has to rely on technology that is inaccessible to a large portion of the population. Justice Chandrachud decided to speak from his personal experience to emphasise his point. I don’t know if a sedition case has been filed against the news channel for showing that.Arora: Why can’t the govt provide some semblance of ritual, which is also for health purposes ? Bench: We saw a picture of a body being thrown in river. Justice Chandrachud: I don’t know if a sedition case has been filed against the news channel for showing that. — Live Law (@LiveLawIndia) May 31, 2021 This was a loaded comment on a number of levels, but most importantly, it was an indictment of the number of sedition cases that journalists have been charged with. This was also a statement on how the government viewed COVID-19 reportage by the media. View the full article
  12. It has always been debatable if reality shows are actually real or more of fake setups just to increase their TRPs. Indian Idol has been receiving criticism of late for the content they have been churning out. Now, Indian Idol 1 winner Abhijeet Sawant has opened up on the reality of all the content produced by the makers and has, in fact, lashed out at them for focusing more on the tragic backgrounds of the participants rather than their singing abilities. View this post on Instagram Abhijeet compared Indian Idol to their regional cousins and showed how they focus more on talent rather than dramatic packages. “These days, the makers are more interested in whether the participant can polish shoes or how poor he is, rather than his talent. You should watch regional reality shows where viewers may not know anything about the background of their favourite contestants. Their focus is only on singing, but in Hindi reality shows, contestants' tragic and sad stories are shown. The focus is only on that,” Abhijeet told Aaj Tak. Abhijeet also added that the makers also show fake love stories to add to the dramatic element but he also blamed the public for consuming such content. In a recent interview, the host Aditya Narayan accepted that the love story shown on Indian Idol 12 between Pawandeep Rajan and Arunita Kanjilal was fake. He had said, “We are not denying that it’s fake but the audience enjoys it and so do we. Hum masti karte hai. They are young people and if something does happen between them, they have our wishes, and if not, it’s their lives.” This is the reality that Abhijeet was shedding light on. He also recalled one of the incidents when he was a participant in the show. He said that he once forgot the lyrics of the song he was singing during his stint on the singing reality show. "The judges decided among themselves that I should be given another chance. But I can tell you with confidence that had it happened today, it would have been served to the audience with full dramatic effects of thunder and shock. But the viewers are also responsible. Hindi language public is always hunting for more spice," he said. View this post on Instagram The most hurtful part of the interview was when he revealed that he is jobless and his near and dear ones are asking him to quit singing. 13. Pankaj Tripathi has become a household name in the entertainment industry. Apart from his acting expertise, he is also an advocate of women’s rights and his statements make us wish there were more men like him. The Mirzapur actor has been quite vocal about being a feminist himself in several of his interviews and recently revealed how his wife and daughter have impacted his life in the best possible way. View this post on Instagram Although Tripathi is now an established actor, he had to struggle a lot and there was a time when he was solely surviving on his wife Mridula Tripathi's salary and felt that there’s no harm in it. In an interview with Hindustan Times, he had said, “There was a time when I survived solely on my wife’s salary and I see absolutely no harm in doing so. My wife and daughter have impacted my life in the best way possible.” View this post on Instagram Being a feminist himself, he feels that it’s important to staring teaching feminism to boys from a young age. He also added that parents invest all their energies in teaching their daughters how to behave but it’s not the case when it comes to their sons. “I feel that parents put all their energies into grooming and teaching their daughters how to behave themselves but when it comes to boys, it’s not given the same importance as it needs. In today’s education, I think the inclusion of feminism is a must for all young boys. If this is done, we won’t have to “save” our daughters anymore,” he said. He also added that it’s important to condition men this way from a young ages as gender-based crimes have only been increasing in our country. Tripathi feels that “feminism, which talks of equal rights and opportunities for men and women, is a study that should be instilled in boys just as strongly as girls who are often taught to behave themselves in society. Boys need to learn right from the beginning that no gender is ever superior or inferior. Respecting the other genders as well as empowering each other should be taught early on, not just to girls but to young boys as well. To see the existence of such a large gender disparity in our country needs immediate attention and change.” We completely agree with Pankaj Tripathi. What about you?
