  1. The much-awaited official teaser of Akshay Kumar's upcoming film Prithviraj was released on November 15. Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Ashutosh Rana, and Sonu Sood. Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar will be making her Bollywood debut with the film. Akshay Kumar plays the role of King Prithviraj Chauhan, while Manushi will be seen in the role of his wife Sanyogita. View this post on Instagram Talking about the teaser, Akshay said, “The teaser of Prithviraj captures the soul of the film, the essence of the life of the legendary warrior Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan who knew no fear. This is our tribute to his heroism and his life. The more I read about him, the more I was awed by how he lived and breathed every single second of his glorious life for his country and his values.” Elaborating about his character, he went on to add, “He is a legend, he is one of the bravest warriors and he is one of the most upright kings that our country has ever seen. We hope that Indians worldwide love our salute to this mighty braveheart. We have tried to present his life story in the most authentic way possible and the film is a homage to his unmatched bravery and courage.” Here’s the teaser: The teaser has been in the headlines for the wrong reasons as people didn’t approve of the fact that a 54 years old Akshay is romancing 30 years younger Manushi. It is a very common sight to see older Bollywood actors romancing young actresses, who are almost half their age. It’s 2021, and it's about time that this issue with Bollywood is also addressed. People are not okay with this cast and have been slamming Akshay Kumar and the makers for carrying a stereotype forward. Here are the reactions: © Twitter © Twitter © Twitter © Twitter © Twitter © Twitter However, this isn't the first time something like this has happened. 52-year-old Akshay Kumar romanced 29-year-old Kriti Sanon in Housefull 4. Khiladi Kumar will be next seen opposite 24-year-old Sara Ali Khan in Aanand L Rai’s Atrangi Re. Last year, actress Dia Mirza addressed the prevalent ageism and sexism that exists in the film industry. In an interview, she talked about how younger actresses are cast opposite older actors but older actresses don’t get enough work. What do you have to say about this trend? 2. KRK is back at doing what he always does, that is, sharing his unfiltered thoughts and not censoring the trail of his imagination. The man is known for trolling everyone and even being called out for his words seems to have no effect on him. His latest video that has been trending on social media is a review of the upcoming magnum opus, Prithviraj, which stars Akshay Kumar in the titular role and will mark the debut of former beauty queen Manushi Chillar. While the teaser has been getting mixed reviews, KRK has published a personal review of his own where he’s trolling the lead actress’ name and called her ‘Pehle se hi Chillar’. He said “aur ab heroine Chillar ka introduction hai, wo tho bechari pehele se he chillar hai tho film mai bhi mere khayal mai usska role chillar he hoga”. Prithviraj movie teaser review! #krkreview #bollywood #film https://t.co/7SW0R9OL00 via @YouTube — KRK (@kamaalrkhan) November 16, 2021 While this is uncool and uncouth, needless to say, the actor-producer got trolled in return. 3. The first teaser for Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's upcoming Prithviraj film has finally been released to the public by Yash Raj Films (YRF). The movie, which is based on the life of legendary warrior Prithviraj Chauhan will mark the debut of Miss World 2017 winner Manushi Chillar. View this post on InstagramAkshay will star as Prithviraj in the movie, with the other star-studded cast member names including Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood. © Twitter Let's really be honest! Bollywood absolutely nails history films due to the attention to detail and the grand manner in which things are shown in the movies, just take Sanjay Leela Bhansali or Ashutosh Gowariker for instance. © YRF This is not any different as YRF brings the powerhouse that is Akshay Kumar to its banner, while showcasing the life of Prithviraj Chauhan, one of the most prominent names in Indian history. The teaser for the movie begins with shots of an epic fight against the invader Muhammad of Ghor. A heroic story about pride and valour. Proud to play Samrat #Prithviraj Chauhan. The teaser also shows Sanjay Dutt in the battlefield and Manushi Chillar dressed as a bride in the role of Sanyogita. Akshay, who recently saw the release of his Rohit Shetty film Sooryavanshi, had spoken about the teaser for Prithviraj in a press release. “The teaser of Prithviraj captures the soul of the film, the essence of the life of the legendary warrior Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan who knew no fear. This is our tribute to his heroism and his life. The more I read about him, the more I was awed by how he lived and breathed every single second of his glorious life for his country and his values,” he'd said. “He is a legend, he is one of the bravest warriors and he is one of the most upright kings that our country has ever seen. We hope that Indians worldwide love our salute to this mighty braveheart. Directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the movie will be released worldwide on January 21, 2022. View the full article
  4. Vicky Kaushal has carved a niche for himself and has a massive fan following after he delivered power-packed performances in movies like URI, Sanju, and Manmarziyaan. He is currently wrapping work on Vijay Krishna Acharya's next, before moving on to Shashank Khaitan's Mr. Lele and then Aditya Dhar's Ashwatthama later. View this post on InstagramHe has got one more movie in his kitty and for that, he has collaborated with Manushi Chhillar. Manushi will make her Hindi film debut opposite Akshay Kumar in YRF’s Prithviraj, for which she's already wrapped up shooting. View this post on InstagramVicky and Manushi are collaborating for the first time and the movie will be bankrolled by Yash Raj Productions. While most of it has been wrapped up, the makers had not zeroed down on a title. However, according to a new report in Bollywood Hungama, the film has now got a tentative title. The movie will now be called The Great Indian Family or TGIF. A source told the entertainment website, “They are now calling Vicky and Manushi's film The Great Indian Family or TGIF. It's a madcap comedy of errors and Vicky's first comedy film.” It will have an interesting take on dysfunctional families and the issues they face fixing it. The source added, “The movie revolves around a dysfunctional family and hence the title. It's also called the same because TGIF is also a very millennial term. But it's a tentative title. Aditya Chopra could also ask for a change on the same." The film is almost ready but the makers are deciding for an early 2022 release for this project as they want Manushi’s Bollywood debut to be Prithiviraj which will be releasing this Diwali. “Prithviraj releases on Diwali this year and the makers are clear that this has to be Manushi's debut project because it's a grand period drama that will position her really well. TGIF will release only around early 2022,” the source added. Speaking about sequences shot at Maheshwar, a small town in Madhya Pradesh, a source had earlier said, “The portions will include their romantic scenes, along with a few other important sequences. The unique backdrop of Maheshwar will make it look beautiful and stunning. They will be shooting in Maheshwar for approximately a week.” Vicky and Manushi’s film is also a part of YRF’s big 50 year celebrations and honestly, it does sound interesting to us. The two stars came together for the Filmfare awards and had a great time giving us a glimpse of their witty fun-side. Even Shah Rukh Khan joined them on -stage, making it one of the most talked about moments of the event. Ranveer had even shared a selfie with Manushi and had captioned it, 'Queen'. © Instagram Recently Manushi went Live on Instagram and had a great interaction with her fans. Since she's the most talked about person of the moment, a lot of her old videos and pictures are bound to resurface. And, one such video that is currently making the rounds is of Miss World 2017 talking to Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen on a flight. While it's not really clear when they met, and when this video was shot, we can make out from the video that it was before she won the crown. Still, remember the day we met inside the airplane pic.twitter.com/LgiMaSVIlh — Manushi Chhillar (@ManushiChhillar) November 18, 2017 The video shows both of them exchanging pleasantries, and in true Miss Universe fashion, Sushmita had nothing but words of encouragement for the obviously nervous Manushi. She can be heard saying, “Give it your best shot and then leave the rest in God's hands. All the best.” You made my b'day @ManushiChhillar d most memorable ever!!ðððð»ð®ð³India is proud of U!! 8. When two people who are representing the country internationally meet, everyone will obviously talk about it. On one hand, we have Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper who made his international debut almost a decade ago, and has been nothing but consistent with his ability to score. The Indian team captain has been breaking records all throughout his career, and when it comes to having the most centuries in ODIs, he is only behind the living legend Sachin Tendulkar. And then we have Manushi Chhillar, who made the whole country proud by bringing home the Miss World crown after 17 long years. When both of these icons met at an event recently, Manushi had a very important question for the Indian captain. © Twitter While attending the CNN-News18 Indian of the Year 2017 Awards, the recently crowned Miss World took the opportunity to ask Kohli how he continues to inspire everyone. She questioned, “You are one of the best batsmen in the world today and you've been such an inspiration. You've really given back to the society. But there are a lot of young people who draw inspiration from you. How would you like to give back for children, especially in the world of cricket?” #IndianOfTheYear - Miss World 2017 @ManushiChhillar had a question for team India skipper @imVkohli Watch the event here - https://t.co/Nr4TFMc7XT and Jio TV | #IndianOfTheYear @reliancejio @JioChat pic.twitter.com/p1W5ce8W9E — News18 (@CNNnews18) November 30, 2017 As expected, he gave a brilliant reply. He said, “Well, what's very important to understand is when you do what you do and you express yourself on the field, it has to be genuine and it has to be from the heart. Otherwise if people find out that you're trying to pretend, then they can never connect to you. I've never tried to be anyone else. I've always been myself; I always mention that people had a lot of issues with how I was, how I conducted myself, but I had never had any problems with that.” © Twitter He continued, “The moment I started to think that I need to change, is the only time I changed. Everyone has to go through a mutual process to be where they get to in life to become more mature. What's very important to understand is one should never lose their own identity, character and personality because if you try to be someone else you can never succeed, and you can never inspire others.” “The one thing that I believe in is that there's something much stronger that's making us do what we do. We ourselves don't have the ability to go out there, score runs and take wickets all the time. We must believe that everyone has a plan and that plan has been executed for them at the time they are in, and all they can do is work hard, no one can change the plan, what we can do is work hard and be honest with ourselves.” © Twitter Whether it is on or off the field, he always knows what to do and say, and it's no wonder he is a huge inspiration for the youth of the country. Virat Kohli also went on to present the 'Indian of the Year- Individual Special Achievement' to Manushi Chhillar, and it seems like the pictures of them together are the only thing people can talk about right now.
  9. After her splendid win at the Miss World 2017 pageant, Manushi Chhillar has taken the floor by storm with her talent and wit. The diva recently spoke about her 'chill' factor in response to Tharoor's ''tongue-in-cheek” remark and completely floored us with her awesome pun and now a video of her dancing at the Miss World Pageant is giving us reasons to adore her even more. (c) Youtube Manushi was seen dancing to Deepika Padukone's Nagada Sang Dhol (from 2013 Ram Leela fame) at the competition. The contestants at the pageant had to perform on a song that represented their country and our homegirl chose an apt Garba piece to introduce the vibrancy India is. Miss Chhiller who comes from Haryana, picked up the Garba steps quite easily with her grace and dedication. The last diva to be crowned Miss World was Priyanka Chopra way back in 2000. After 17 years, India broke her silence by giving us a gorgeous Miss World to admire. Manushi Chhillar has become a household name now and she's inspiring many small-town young women to come forth and follow their dreams. (c) Youtube A classic example of beauty with brains, she did complete justice to the question asked to her proving to the world that her ideas and thought process were more progressive than what most people believe they are for Indian women. For the final question, which was posed to her, she was asked which profession deserves the most salary to which she replied that it's not about money and it's a mother's job that is the most difficult and needs to be given its due credit. How's that for a very smart and talented India represent? (c) Youtube But let's focus on what's breaking the internet right now. Her beautiful and dazzling dance performance at the pageant has us all enthralled and we love her sassy red and gold dress she ha donned for it. Her Garba steps did full justice to her representing the Indian arts and culture. The video (above) shows Manushi and other contestants dancing to the tune of Nagada Sang Dhol Baje and it's quite something to see the foreign contestants matching Manushi's steps as she performs on the song. Manushi's a trained Kuchipud dancer and we're sure her gurus would be mighty proud of her today!
  10. It's been 17 years since an Indian was crowned Miss World, with the last being Priyanka Chopra in 2000. But last Friday, 20-year-old Manushi Chhillar broke that streak, making Indians everywhere proud. She was crowned Miss World in China, out of a pool of 121 extraordinary women. She is the sixth Indian woman to do so, thereby tying India with Venezuela as the country that has produced the most beauty queens. Her Journey © Reuters Manushi is from Haryana and says it has always been her dream to represent India on an international platform. “As a kid, I always wanted to participate in the competition but I never knew I would make it this far,” she says, adding that it was a journey she would never forget. She was born to two brilliant parents, which may help account for her stellar academic career. Her father is Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar, a scientist at India's Defense Research and Development Organization while her mother, Dr. Neelam Chhillar, is head of neurochemistry at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences. Although Manushi was born in Rohtak, she studied in St. Thomas School in Delhi, which she feels gave her a much-needed dose of confidence. After school, she attended the Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat, in hopes of becoming a cardiac surgeon (she is currently in her third year). Medicine and beauty pageants may not seem to go together, but Manushi says her medical training helped her prepare for the rigors of the Miss World competition: “When you are studying medicine, you are learning how to deal with people and you understand why they act the way they do." She describes herself as a nerd, but there's much more to her personality. She is also a poet, a painter and a trained Kuchipudi dancer. Her mother introduced her to dance at a young age, where she learned to love the stage. According to Manushi, “I was always focused on my studies and wanted to be a doctor, but I would also dream of being at a beauty pageant at least once in my life.” This was considerably complicated for her, considering her family background. Nobody in her family had ever considered the entertainment or modelling industry to be a viable career: she was the first in the family. When she found out that they were holding auditions for Miss India, she didn't let her medical career slide – she fit workout sessions and pageant training sessions in between classes. Her dedication and hard work explains the trajectory of her journey from Haryana to last June (when she was crowned the Femina Miss India World) and, of course, to her Miss World win. Her Ethos © BCCL 'Manushi' means humanity. The new Miss World says that her parents believed that she would change the world someday, and she's already started! The proof of her conviction is that she didn't just win Miss World: she also won the Head to Head challenge and the 'Beauty with a Purpose' title. “Since her childhood,” says her aunt, “she liked playing with dolls and dressing up. But she also wanted to serve the people. Even though she has become Miss World she will go on to complete her medical studies.” Besides her surgeon aspirations, Manushi is dedicated to helping women and girls through her 'Project Shakti', which is an initiative to empower poor rural women and help them earn their livelihoods. She has also visited about twenty villages in an effort to spread awareness on hygiene, a cause that is very dear to her heart. She estimates that she has managed to make a difference in about five thousand women's lives through her efforts. Her motto in life – which has been exemplified in her life thus far - is "When you cease to dream, you cease to live.” These dreams seem to extend beyond the typical Bollywood aspirants. When asked whether she would strive to emulate her predecessors - Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra- Manushi said: “I feel that Miss India is a stepping stone for anything you want to do, not just Bollywood.” Her Inspiration © Facebook It was easy to predict Manushi's win, because of her stellar answer during the Q&A final round. When asked “Which profession deserves the highest salary and why?” she replied, “A mother. I think a mother deserves the highest respect and when you talk about salary it's not always about cash but I feel it's the love and respect that you give to someone. My mother has always been the biggest inspiration in my life. All mothers sacrifice so much for their kids.” She cited her mother as her best friend during the Head to Head challenge, too, saying that she was thrilled to be compared to her mother. Like most desi girls, it's clear that family ties are very important to her. (All five members of her family were present when she won the Miss World title, clapping and cheering her on.) But she says she will never tell them about the dates she goes on! Her Routine © Facebook Manushi follows a carefully designed regime in order to keep her body svelte and in good health, which comes as no surprise. She eats plenty of lentils, quinoa, oatmeal, and sautéed vegetables, and does yoga with her personal trainer. She also makes sure to drink 3 litres of water a day and switches her mobile phone off 2 hours before going to bed. Eating breakfast every day is a must, says her nutritionist. She eats regular meals and uses smaller plates in order to avoid temptation. The Girl Behind the Crown © BCCL When you watch Manushi glide down the pageant stage, she looks so regal and confident that she appears older. But in interviews, you see a spunky girl fresh out of her teens, who describes cheese and chocolate as her guilty pleasures. Ask her about the worst pickup line she's ever heard, and she says, “An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but I'll give up on apples if the doctor is you.” What would she do if she was a guy? She says, “I would hit on Manushi Chhillar.” Clearly, the girl doesn't lack in humour! When Shashi Tharoor cracked a joke about demonetization at her expense, she took it with good grace, saying there was “chill” within Chhillar. Manushi's idea of celebration is to have dinner with her family and close friends, which is something she hasn't done in a while now. She also loves shopping for shoes, Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and binge-watching Game of Thrones. However, all TV binges will have to wait, because she doesn't even have the time to get a solid 8 hours of sleep a night! Here's hoping she has time to enjoy her success. As Priyanka Chopra tweeted to her young successor: “cherish and learn, and most importantly enjoy it. Bravo.”
  11. After a long hiatus of 17 years, the coveted crown of Miss World has finally come to India and as expected our happiness and pride knows no bounds. The woman who made this happen, who made the whole nation proud, is 20-year-old Medical student from Haryana, Manushi Chhillar. Manushi is the sixth Indian to win this prestigious title. 'Quantico' star aka our Desi girl, Priyanka Chopra had won the title in 2000. Manushi defeated beauties from over 108 countries to win the crown, in a dazzling ceremony held at Sanya City Arena, China. The crown was passed on to the new queen by Stephanie Del Valle, Miss World 2016 from Puerto Rico. (c) Reuters “The feeling is still sinking in and I am very excited to make India proud too. I'm also looking forward to the year ahead,” Manushi was quoted saying in a statement after this exceptional victory. However, apart from her win, it's her amazing answer that has stunned the whole world and filled our hearts with respect for her at the same time. When asked about “Which profession deserves the highest salary and why?” This is what Manushi said, “I think a mother deserves the highest respect and when you talk about salary it's not always about cash but I feel it's the love and respect that you give to someone.
