  1. Over the years, Bollywood or the Hindi film industry has produced a number of cult comedy classics that never fail to entertain us and leave us split. Back in the ‘60s & ‘70s, the humour in Hindi films used to be situational which changed to slapstick and physical in the ‘90s & early ‘00s. Some of the most loved comedy films of all time in the Hindi film industry include Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Chupke Chupke, Golmaal, Andaz Apna Apna, Dulhe Raja, Hera Pheri, Hungama, Hulchul, Malamaal Weekly, Dhamaal & Welcome among others. However, unfortunately, some of the most popular and hilarious comedy scenes in these films weren’t original and were blatantly lifted from Hollywood and other international films. Here’s a look at 5 such iconic comedy scenes in Bollywood that were copied: 1. Dhamaal (2007) © maruti International Directed by Indra Kumar, there is not much original about this 2007 cult hit. While its basic plot is lifted from It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World & Rat Race, the gags in the film were lifted directly from multiple international films. Remember the car jump scene in the film? Well, that was taken as it is from the 2000 film Road Trip. Watch the two scenes below: Similarly, the intro scene of Riteish Deshmukh’s character was taken from Rowan Atkinson’s Johnny English. Check it out below: 2. Malamaal Weekly (2006) © Sahara One Motion Pictures There is a highly hilarious scene towards the climax of the film where Rajpal Yadav’s character sits on a cycle that is without its seat. Well, that sequence is lifted from Jackie Chan’s 1983 film Project A. Check out both the scenes below: 3. Deewane Huye Paagal (2005) © UTV Motion Pictures The main plot of the film was lifted from the 1998 film There’s Something About Mary and so were its comedy scenes. There is a sequence in the film where Akshay Kumar’s character accidentally kills Rimi Sen’s character’s pet dog. Check out both the copied & the original scene below: 4. Housefull (2010) © Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment In the first half of this Sajid Khan directorial, there is a scene where Akshay Kumar gets involved in a slap battle with a monkey. The scene was the highlight of the film but was far from original. It was lifted from Ben Stiller’s comedy movie Night At The Museum. Check out the two scenes below: 5. Om Shanti Om (2007) © Red Chillies Entertainment Akshay Kumar’s cameo scene in Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om where we see footage of him shooting at robbers is actually taken as it is from the 2003 Swedish comedy film Kopps. Check out the scenes below: View the full article

  5. A prolific batsman, a pragmatic leader and a fierce competitor. Virat Kohli, owing to his many faces, has earned numerous monikers over the years in the world of cricket. The ever-increasing batting records show just how good he has been with the willow. And, the fact he has the best win-loss ratio as captain when compared to his predecessors, highlights his efficiency in the leadership department. But, Kohli's quality as a good leader isn't just governed by the number of matches he has won as Indian captain. In fact, for a man who has often been labelled as 'boorish' in his illustrious career, Kohli rarely gets credit for being compassionate and considerate towards others. Time and again, the Indian captain has given fans a glimpse of his underrated qualities but, sadly, it hasn't convinced the critics. View the full article
  6. Ronaldo defied his age and seemingly gravity. Photo: ESPN FC TwitterJuventus on Friday applauded Cristiano Ronaldo after his incredible leap to score the winner against Sampdoria pushed the Italian champions top of Serie A. Ronaldo, 34, defied his age and seemingly gravity on Wednesday when he met Alex Sandro's looping cross with what the club called "no ordinary header". "As he rose up into the air, where he seemingly hung suspended for a split second of time, Ronaldo reached an impressive height of 2.56m (8 foot 4 inches) when his head connected to the ball," Juventus said on its website. "He jumped 71cms off the ground to nod in his 11th headed goal since joining Juventus." The incredible goal just before half-time put Juve on 42 points, three ahead of Inter ahead of their match with struggling Genoa on Saturday. Fans on Twitter noted that Ronaldo has previously headed goals by jumping 2.93 metres against Manchester United in 2013 and 2.61 metres against Wales in 2016.
  7. The Madras High Court today lifted the ban on TikTok, a video-streaming app which was blocked by Google and Apple on their app stores more than a week ago. Yes, it means the app will now soon be available for download again in the country. Following yesterday's Supreme Court order directing the High Court to decide on the question of the interim relief of the app, the matter was taken up today and the Bench of justice N Kirubakaran and SS Sundar lifted the ban after hearing TikTok's submissions. © Tik Tok Senior Advocate Isaac Mohanlal appeared in court for TikTok and noted that there is a technology in place to ensure that no nude/ obscene content is uploaded through the app. Additionally, TikTok also made submissions on the steps taken to counter the issues raised by the court following the ban. It is, however, worth pointing out that the app is not yet available for download. But it's only a matter of time until we start seeing the app on both the Google Play Store and App Store. So, brace yourself, the crying TikTok boys are going to be back again.
  8. You can get creative ideas from almost anywhere, and there's nothing wrong in taking inspiration from them. However, things go wrong when you take too much inspiration and end up low-key copying it. We are sure, Bollywood knows this feeling just too well. However, gone are the days of getting inspired by the West. Our directors these days look up to regional movies, particularly South Korean movies to take inspiration from and the most recent example is Salman Khan's upcoming movie 'Bharat'. For those who didn't know, 'Bharat' is an official remake of a South Korean film 'An Ode To My Father'. While some movies are called official remakes, others are simply lifted from the original one. Here are 10 Bollywood movies which we didn't know were 'inspired' from some of the biggest South Korean movies: 1. Rocky Handsome - The Man From Nowhere Starring John Abraham in the lead, 'Rocky Handsome' is the official remake of Lee Jeong-Beom's film 'The Man From Nowhere'. The story is about a mysterious man and a young girl he makes friends with. When the girl is kidnapped and her mother is killed, the man goes to extreme lengths to save the girl. 2. Ek Villain - I Saw The Devil This Mohit Suri directorial starring Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor was loved by many for its fresh storyline and Riteish Deshmukh's brilliant performance as a villain. What most people don't know is that 'Ek Villain' is actually copied from a popular South Korean film 'I Saw The Devil'. However, the Bollywood version is not as gory or violent as the Korean one starring Choi Min Shik, which is till date considered to be one of the best films ever made. 3. Zinda - Oldboy 'Oldboy' is a neo-noir action thriller about a man, who sets out to find out why he was kidnapped and kept inside a cell for 15 years, unravelling some disturbing secrets in his journey. While everyone loves the South Korean film (one of the finest movies ever made), hardly knows about 'Zinda' except for the people who acted in the movie. 'Zinda' starred Sanjay Dutt and John Abraham. 4. Jazbaa - Seven Days Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's comeback movie 'Jazbaa' might have failed to leave a mark at the box-office, but it was appreciated by the critics, especially Aishwarya's power-packed performance. 'Jazbaa' was copied from the South Korean movie, 'Seven Days' and follows the journey of a female lawyer, who has to now win an unwinnable case in order to save her kidnapped daughter. 5. Murder 2 - The Chaser Starring Emraan Hashmi, Jacqueline Fernandez and Prashant Narayanan, 'Murder 2' is a copy of another super hit South Korean film 'The Chaser'. Emraan Hashmi stars as an ex-police officer tasked with finding some missing *** workers. When a young woman is sent by him to entice the kidnapper, Hashmi sets out to find her. 6. Awarapan - A Bittersweet Life A hitman is asked to keep an eye on his boss' mistress. However, when he learns that she is being exploited, he decides to rescue her from the clutches of his boss. While actor Lee Byung Hyun flawlessly portrayed the conflict going on inside the character in the South Korean version, Emraan Hashmi failed to recreate the same magic or should we say turmoil in the Bollywood one. 7. Te3n - Montage Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vidya Balan, this RibhuDasgupta directorial is a remake of the 2013 South Korean film 'Montage'. The movie features Amitabh as John Biswas, a 70-year-old man, who seeks help from a priest and a police officer to find the people who kidnapped and killed his granddaughter. 8. Do Lafzon Ki Kahani - Always Starring two of my favourite actors, So Ji-sub and Han Hyo-joo, 'Always' is a classic romantic South Korean film about a former boxer and a high-spirited telemarketer who is blind. Romance starts brewing between the two slowly, which changes their life forever. A Hindi version was made starring Randeep Hooda and Kajal Agarwal. If you are hearing the Bollywood movie's name for the first time, then you will get my point. 9. Rock On - A Happy Life Starring Farhan Akhtar, Purab Kohli and Arjun Rampal, 'Rock On' is a story of four friends who fail to make it big in the music industry as their band falls apart due to differences. Years later, they come together to rebuild the dream and embark on a journey they left years ago. This is probably the only movie on this list that was unanimously loved by both the audience and the critics. 'Rock On' is said to be based on the South Korean movie 'A Happy Life'. 10. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo - Masquerade Everyone knows that 'Bharat' is an official Hindi remake of a popular South Korean film. But, not many know that this is not the only film that took inspiration from South Korea. 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' is another chartbuster movie that was copied from 'Masquerade', a very famous South Korean film.
  9. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) has been in hot waters for a while now in India. From being banned to people getting arrested for playing it while the ban was in force, there has been a lot of chit-chat about the game. But now after a lot of criticism on social media, the ban imposed by the state of Gujarat on PUBG Mobile has finally been lifted. The decision came straight from the police commissioner A K Singh, after taking feedback from the public. © PUBG Corp. “Today is the last day of the proclamation we had issued. Yesterday, this matter came up for review and we decided that as the exam session is over and the direct trigger to initiating the action is not valid any more, we will not renew the proclamation. We have also taken public reaction into account, said the commissioner.' The game, in case you don't know, was banned for being violent and for inciting violence. It was also leading to accidental deaths, kids stealing money to buy in-game items, and more. Of course, banning the game wasn't an ideal solution, but that's apparently what the majority of people wanted. © PUBG Corp. Well, now that the ban has been lifted, let's not get carried away and spend all of our time playing it. It's high time that we, the players of the game, give it some thought and take some responsibility of our actions. Unless you are looking to dive in professionally, gaming is just a form of entertainment. Too much of it is not good for both your physical as well as mental health. As it turns out, you may even end up getting a game banned or end up in a jail for playing too much. So, let's focus on creating a healthy gaming environment, and enjoy ourselves while we are at it.
  10. After nearly a month of public humiliation and hate speeches by cricketers and fans alike, which eventually led to massive self-loathing by Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul for their juvenile comments at Bollywood director and actor Karan Johar's talkshow, Koffee With Karan, the Board of Cricket Control in India or BCCI's Committee of Administration, has finally decided to lift the ban on the young stars of the Indian cricket team on Thursday. © Instagram "The Committee of Administrators ("CoA") had, by emails dated 11.01.2019, and in exercise of Rule 41(6) of the Constitution of BCCI, suspended Mr. Hardik Pandya and Mr. K.L. Rahul in view of the allegations of misconduct against them, pending adjudication of the allegations under Rule 46 of the approved BCCI Constitution," the CoA said in a press release. "Since the adjudication of all allegations of misconduct against any cricketer registered with, inter alia, the BCCI is required to be undertaken by the BCCI Ombudsman, whose appointment is pending directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, the CoA is the of the view that the interim suspension orders dated 11.01.2019 should be presently lifted with immediate effect. "The above matter and decision has been taken with the concurrence of the Learned Amicus Curiae, Mr. P.S. Narasimha. In view of the above, the suspension orders dated 11.01.2019 is immediately lifted pending appointment and adjudication of the allegations by the BCCI Ombudsman," the release said. With the ban now lifted, pacer Hardik Pandya has now been asked to join the Men in Blue for the ongoing ODI series in New Zealand which India lead 1-0 following a brilliant bowling attack by Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav. ICYMI: India all-rounder Hardik Pandya will join the side on their ongoing #NZvIND tour. DETAILS â¬ï¸https://t.co/5MQdubt3w8 pic.twitter.com/nR3nd1T9RY — ICC (@ICC) January 25, 2019 KL Rahul, who was going through a major struggle on the crease even before the ban took place, during the Border-Gavaskar Test series in Australia, has also been given the opportunity to regain his confidence by joining Rishabh Pant in the India A squad, scheduled to take on the England Lions in a three-game one-dayers in Trivandrum. Karan Johar on the other hand showed his relief upon hearing the fortunate news for the two of India's finest. "I am so happy to hear that the ban has been lifted. I am so relieved and grateful. They deserved another chance. I am glad that the Board has given them this chance," Johar expressed as reported by The Times of India. Whatever the duo said during the show was wrong, there are no two ways about it but, they have paid for more than what they had bargained for during their banned-stint in India. What is of essence is the fact that both Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul are exceptional cricketers and their presence in the Indian roster for the upcoming 2019 ICC World Cup may be crucial.
  11. Former World Twenty20 champion and cricketer, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, is convinced that if his ban from playing cricket is lifted and he gets to play even for a period as short as six months, he is going to give the new generation “a run for their money.” The Bigg Boss season 12's runner-up believes that the last 105 days inside the reality show's house was crucial for him to return to his original self that he had lost touch with when the 35-year-old was accused of spot-fixing and was sentenced a lifetime ban from playing the sport by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The fast-medium-pace bowler was arrested on being found guilty of corruption and spot-fixing in an internal inquiry held by BCCI's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit led by Ravi Sawani, back in 2013 during the sixth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The then Rajasthan Royals player had confessed of the crime but later in a letter to the Board expressed that his confession to the police was under duress. “Under the threat of arrest of my close relatives a statement was forcibly taken in the manner directed by the police,” he wrote in the letter. “There is no confession recorded by me willingly to the police. The police have mentally and physically harassed me and obtained signed statements.” View this post on Instagram #ThrowBackThursday #Mentor #Senior #Guru #SachinTendulkar ! A post shared by Sree Santh (@sreesanthnair36) on Jun 29, 2017 at 4:35am PDT Sreesanth had filed a petition early in 2018, seeking response from the authorities as he moved to the Supreme Court to challenge the Kerala High Court's verdict to stay the ban. BCCI authorities stuck to their former stance and replied that they will not compromise with corruption. In 2017, Videos of Sreesanth converting his newly constructed house into a practice arena went viral. “I totally deserve a chance to play club cricket, so that I at least get to prove my fitness levels and play for the Kerala cricket team,” he said in an interview with The Times of India. “People who are guilty and are proven so, are playing international cricket. And here I am telling my sad story, which hurts.” Last year, Sreesanth's advocate to the Supreme Court, Salman Khurshid told the judiciary that his client has multiple offers from various cricket clubs of the United Kingdom but will not be able to play if the ban was not lifted. “Life sentence for a criminal is for 14 years, but unfortunately in cricket, the life ban given to me is till my last breath and it really hurts,” Sreesanth told TOI.
  12. General view of the new first Saudi cinema at cultural club in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia January 13, 2018. Picture taken January 13, 2018 - Reuters 2 JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia began screening feature-length animated children?s films this weekend in a makeshift theatre, after a 35-year-old ban on cinemas was lifted. The first permanent theatres could open as early as March, part of a liberalizing reform drive that has already opened the door to concerts, comedy shows and women drivers over the past year. For now, the authorities are sponsoring temporary settings, like the state-run cultural hall in the Red Sea city of Jeddah equipped with a projector, a red carpet and a popcorn machine. ?Until now, there is no infrastructure for movie theatres, so we are trying to take advantage of (alternative) venues to approximate the cinematic form,? said Mamdouh Salim, whose Cinema 70 brand organized the week-long screenings. ?We tried to use these films to be a starting point as the first cinematic screening after the decision on Dec. 11 to permit movie theatres.? Cinemas were banned in the early 1980s as Saudi society turned towards a particularly conservative form of religion that discouraged public entertainment and public mixing between men and women. But reforms led by 32-year-old Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have eased many of those restrictions, as the government tries to broaden the economy and lessen its dependence on oil. More Fun After watching The Emoji Movie with his wife and daughter on Sunday evening, 28-year-old Sultan al-Otaibi said Saudis are happy to see movies in the theatre instead of staying at home. People watch a movie at the first Saudi Arabia cinema ? Reuters ?It?s more comfortable, more fun to have a change of scenery and an activity on the weekend. It is a step that was very late in coming but thank God it?s happening now.? Thousands of Saudis currently travel to Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and other countries for entertainment. The government wants to retain the money spent on those trips. The authorities expect to open 300 cinemas with 2,000 screens by 2030, building an industry it hopes will contribute more than 90 billion riyals ($24 billion) to the economy and create 30,000 permanent jobs. Regional and international cinema chains are also eyeing the Saudi market, keen to tap the spending power of the young people who make up roughly 70 percent of the population. ?I want to see everything because it is something new for Saudi,? said 30-year-old movie-goer Ibtisam Abu Talib. ?I hope everything is available - action, romance, children?s films, comedy. Everything, God willing.?
  13. “Creativity knows no bounds”. That's an adage we've heard too often. However, sometimes people take the saying a little too much to their heart. Inspiration is where the application of creativity becomes a debatable topic. Be it music, storyline, characters or theme, Bollywood has often been accused of lifting ideas from the West. While some might call it inspiration some prefer to call it plagiarism. Inspiration or not, here are some movies from Bollywood which were…okay let's play it safe… 'inspired' from Hollywood. 1. 'Shaurya' (2008) – 'A Few Good Men' (1992) © Moserbear Unlike most of the films, Shaurya has a very interesting storyline that keeps you hooked to the screen from the first to the last frame. This film is about a lawyer in the Indian Army having to defend a soldier who killed a decorated Major. The soldier refuses to defend himself and talks about what made him take this step. How the lawyer is then able to turn the tables around and save the soldier from being incarcerated forms the crust of the story. The plot is inspired from Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson starrer 'A Few Good Men', which was nominated for the Academy Awards. 2. 'Partner' (2007) – 'Hitch' (2005) © EROS The Salman Khan and Govinda starrer slapstick comedy was a blockbuster at Box Office. 'Partner' is the story of Salman being a consultant who helps people win over their love interests. One of his clients is Govinda, who is in love with his boss played by Katrina Kaif. A comedy of errors mostly by Govinda trying to woo her forms the entire story. The Will Smith starrer 'Hitch' has a similar storyline. 3. 'Munnabhai MBBS' (2003) – 'Patch Adams' (1998) © Twitter Sanjay Dutt plays Munna, a locally feared goon, who leads his family to believe that he is a successful doctor and that he is widely respected by everyone. The plot is inspired by Robin Williams's starrer 'Patch Adams', which was based on a real story about a doctor who uses humour to treat his patients. It goes without saying that what Dutt did in 'Munnabhai' is too good to miss! 4. 'Koi Mil Gaya' (2003) – 'E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial' (1982) © RakeshRoshanFilm Hrithik Roshan starrer Koi Mil Gaya became a favourite amongst the Indian audience when it was released. Bringing a different peg of an alien being stuck on Earth, and then being taken care of by a group of friends is very similar to Steven Spielberg's E.T. But we definitely loved 'Jaadu' who damn near broke our hearts. 5. 'Bunty Aur Babli' (2005) – 'Bonnie & Clyde' (1967) © Yash Raj Films The movie which features a couple who become successful con-artists and manage to dupe people to earn money and fame was a laugh riot and earned huge profits at the box office. The plotline was based on the famous biographical movie 'Bonnie & Clyde', however, unlike the dark undertones of the Hollywood flick, 'Bunty Aur Babli' was a comedy and 'Kajra Re' continues to be one of India's top dance numbers. 6. 'Sarkar' (2005) – 'The Godfather' (1972) © EROS 'Sarkar' introduced us to the supremely intimidating Subhash Nagre, played by Amitabh Bachchan, who is a ruthless and influential man embroiled in a controversy and has an internal battle to fight in the family. How he faces his enemies, and how his sons rise to take control of the empire is what 'Sarkar is about. The undertones of the film are inspired from 'The Godfather', the iconic movie which revolutionized Hollywood. 7. 'God Tussi Great Ho' (2008) – 'Bruce Almighty' (2003) © EROS Starring Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan, 'God Tussi Great Ho' is about a man who always thought of God being the one who brought all the misery in his life. Tired of his complaints, God appears before him and transfers his powers into the man. How the protagonist takes over the job is what the plot is about. 'Bruce Almighty' starring Jim Carrey and Morgan Freeman was the inspiration for this movie but didn't really pull many audiences. 8. 'Dostana' (2008) – 'I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry' (2007) © Dharma Two straight men enter into an agreement to act as a gay couple in order to live in an apartment in Miami. Hilarity ensures when both of them end up falling in love with the owner of the apartment, who is under the impression that they are in a relationship with each other. How the men then try to seek her attention and yet not reveal the truth is what brings about the comic element of the plot. The story is heavily inspired by Adam Sandler and Kevin James starrer 'I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry', where Sandler and James try to pass themselves off as a gay couple, only to face repercussions of the same later. 9. 'Heyy Babyy' (2007) – 'Three Men and a Baby' (1987) © EROS In this comic movie, the lives of three bachelors living together turn topsy-turvy when an unclaimed baby is left at their doorstep. They then decide to take care of the baby, while trying to find who the real parents are. The three men treat the baby as their own while trying to find the mother at the same time. The movie was an adaptation of the 1987 Hollywood film 'Three Men and a Baby', which was the biggest American box office hit for that year. 10. 'Mohabbatein' (2000) – 'Dead Poets Society' (1989) © Yash Raj Films A Yash Raj Films production that defined the meaning of love for many people. The plot of Mohabbatein, which revolves around a group of students in an all-boys school rebelling against the strict and unjust rules of the administration, is quite similar to the plot of Robin Williams's starrer 'Dead Poets Society'. In the Hollywood version there is a teacher who was an alumni of the school and now wants to change and make things better for the students in the strict school. In both the movies, he subtly suggests that the students should rebel, which they do.
  14. We all know that the iPhone lags behind many Android smartphones when it comes to implementing new technology. Many Android smartphones have been using technology that is a first for Apple and their iPhones. The iPhone X comes packed with many features that have been a regular feature on Android smartphone for years. However, we all know Apple implements technologies only when it is in perfect working order and works fluidly with the iOS ecosystem. Apple may not be the first, but they sure as hell do a great job. Having said that, Android smartphone manufacturers lift features from Apple all the time. Today, the market is flooded with dual camera smartphones, a feature lifted from the iPhone 7 Plus. Apple perfected the dual-camera setup with the portrait mode and optical zoom features that most Android smartphones are trying to replicate today. Before Apple, Android phones were subjected to a plastic body with removable batteries and later adopted a metal-unibody design. But, there's no doubt that Apple is playing catch-up to Android smartphone when it comes to many features, functionalities and advancements. Here are 5 Ways the iPhone X lifted features from Android smartphones. 1. Edge-to-Edge Display © Apple In order to have a full-frontal display, phone companies need to have implemented very narrow bezels. The iPhone X has a beautiful screen which is nearly bezel-less and uses an OLED panel as well. Apple has finally caught up with the likes of Samsung, Xiaomi and LG who were amongst the first to implement a full-frontal display. 2. Ditching The Home Button © YouTube Android smartphone manufactures copied one of the most iconic features of the iPhone i.e. the home button and since then, it has become the norm. However, Android phones were also the first devices that ditched the Home Button in favour of gestures. Android phones have been using captive navigation buttons instead, which enhanced the Android experience. Many phones implemented onscreen controls instead of capacitive buttons that paved the way for bezel-less smartphones. 3. OLED Display © BCCL The OLED supply chain is deeply controlled by Samsung and the company is also responsible for supplying display panels to Apple for the iPhone X. The OLED display is known for vivid colours, deep blacks and battery saving features as compared to LCD panels. Apple has been using LCD panels on the iPhone ever since it launched and Samsung has been using OLED screens for years, and that always gave the Korean company an advantage. Apple has finally implemented an OLED screen for the first time on an iPhone and the results speak for themselves. 4. Wireless Charging © Apple Samsung is also the first smartphone manufacturer to implement wireless charging in smartphones. Other smartphone companies like LG, Nokia and now Apple have finally implemented the new charging feature. 5. Larger Screen, Smaller Body © YouTube Apple managed to squeeze in a screen that is larger in size and actually fits a body that is smaller than the iPhone 8 Plus. The feature was first achieved by Samsung on the Galaxy S8 and the iPhone followed suit. A larger display means there is more room to view content, play games and watch videos.
  15. Indian pace bowler Shanthakumaran Sreesanth NEW DELHI: Indian pace bowler Shanthakumaran Sreesanth said Tuesday he was dreaming of playing in the 2019 World Cup after a court lifted a life ban imposed over a match-fixing scandal. The 34-year-old knows he faces a tough battle after four years in the wilderness, but he said he was inspired by the successful comeback of Pakistan´s Mohammad Amir from a fixing ban. The Kerala state high court lifted Sreesanth´s ban on Monday, saying the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had not proved his role in the 2013 Indian Premier League scandal. Sreesanth said his first target would be to play games for Glenrothes in the Scottish league, and then Kerala state, as he bids to fight back into the Indian team. "My dream is to play 2019 World Cup for India," Sreesanth told The Times of India in an interview. "But I know it is next to impossible and it would be a miracle if I play in that World Cup. But I have always believed that miracles can happen. "There might be stiff competition for fast bowlers´ spots now. But there was competition even when I made my way into the Indian team. "I have always felt that competition gets the best out of me. I just hope that I can do justice to my talent on my comeback." The BCCI has not made any comment on the ruling. It could appeal to a national court, or accept the verdict and let Sreesanth return. ´A new life´ The 2013 IPL season was mired in controversy after police launched legal proceedings against several officials and three Rajasthan Royals players, including Sreesanth, for illegal betting and spot-fixing. Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina hold the 2011 World Cup trophy, while Sreesanth holds the Indian flag/AFP All three were cleared of spot-fixing charges by a New Delhi court in 2015, but Sreesanth´s life ban by the BCCI remained in place until Monday´s ruling. Sreesanth, who was 13 short of 100 Test wickets when he was banned, said he was optimistic of being given official approval to play. "Today I´m feeling much better than how I felt when I got my maiden call-up to the Indian team," said Sreesanth, who was banned with fellow Rajasthan Royals players Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan. "It is a new life for me. Even the biggest of criminals don´t go through what I or my family went through. "A small incident was portrayed in the wrong way in front of the world. Maybe that´s how the world works, I don´t know." He highlighted the case of Pakistani bowler Amir, who was found guilty of match-fixing in court and banned for five years in 2011. Amir made an early return in 2015 and helped Pakistan beat India in the Champions Trophy final in June. "I just hope that happens in my career too," said Sreesanth. Amir played a crucial role in Pakistan's historic victory against India in Champions Trophy final While Sreesanth had denied any role in the IPL match-fixing, the Kerala court said he had been a victim of his own silence in not defending himself at the time. "Complacency in the matter on the part of Sreesanth is really condemnable," said the judge in his ruling. "To uphold the dignity of the game, he should have publicly disapproved (of) the conduct of Jiju Janardanan, especially when his name was dragged into the controversy." Janardanan was a friend of Sreesanth who was accused of acting as a link between the players and illegal bookies. "Anyhow, having suffered a ban now almost for four years, nothing further is required in this matter," the court concluded.
  16. File The US Department of Homeland Security said on Wednesday it has lifted a ban on state-owned EgyptAir passengers using laptops on US-bound flights, leaving just two Middle Eastern airlines still under restrictions first imposed in March. EgyptAir earlier on Wednesday announced the lifting of the restrictions on its Cairo-to-New York flights in a Twitter post, but noted that they remain in effect for flights to London. Saudi Arabian Airlines, also known as Saudia, said in a statement that it expected the ban to be lifted on flights from Jeddah and Riyadh by July 19. Royal Air Maroc believes it could get off the ban for flights out of Casablanca's Mohammed V International Airport by July 19, a senior official of the airline said in a statement. A Homeland Security spokesman, David Lapan, said the July 19 date is a "realistic" timetable for a decision on the two airlines. The measures were imposed in March on nine airlines, most of which were Middle Eastern carriers, to address the potential threat of hidden explosives in laptops and other devices. The restrictions put an additional burden on airlines already hurting from the Trump administration's travel ban on six majority-Muslim countries. On June 28, US Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly unveiled enhanced security measures for all foreign flights arriving in the United States, which officials said were designed to end a limited in-cabin ban on laptops and prevent the ban's expansion to additional airports. European and US officials told Reuters that airlines had 21 days from June 28 to put in place increased explosive trace detection screening and 120 days to comply with other security measures, including enhanced screening of airline passengers.

The Jordanian and Kuwaiti airlines join Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways and Turkish Airline, which each last week announced a lifting of the ban. In March, the United States banned laptops and other large electronic devices on flights originating at 10 airports in eight countries -- Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Turkey -- to tackle fears that bombs could be concealed in them. Royal Jordanian, which flies to New York, Chicago and Detroit from Amman, Jordan, lifted the ban after new security measures were adopted for US-bound flights, airline President Stefan Pichler said in a statement on Sunday. State-owned Kuwait Airways, which flies from Kuwait to New York via Ireland, said the ban was lifted after US officials inspected security measures on its flights. US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) spokesman Mike England said in an email the bans were lifted after Amman and Kuwait airports "implemented the required initial enhanced security measures." The United States announced enhanced security measures on June 29, requiring additional time to screen passengers and electronic devices for possible explosives. The new US measures, which take effect within three weeks of the announcement, will affect around 325,000 passengers a day traveling on 180 airlines from 280 airports around the world, according to the US Department of Homeland Security. Airlines that fail to meet the new requirements could still face in-cabin restrictions on electronic devices. Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) has said it expects the ban to be lifted on flights from Jeddah and Riyadh by July 19. Royal Air Maroc also believes it can have the ban lifted for flights out of Casablanca's Mohammed V International Airport by July 19, a senior official from the state-owned airline told Reuters on July 6. State-owned EgyptAir has also been affected by the ban. 18. Manchester United's Europa League victory gave the city a boost just two days after a devastating suicide bomb attack left 22 dead and dozens injured, claimed legendary former manager Alex Ferguson. United beat Dutch side Ajax 2-0 in Sweden -- goals by Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan sealing an emotional win and a place in the Champions League next season -- to deliver some joy to the city that saw pop concert goers as young as eight killed by the blast. Ferguson, who managed United through a golden era from 1986 to 2013 which saw them win the Champions League twice among many other trophies, told Sky Sports that Manchester was a resilient city. "First of all Manchester is a working class city and it has fantastic people there," said the 75-year-old Scot, who began his working life in the Glasgow shipyards. "They went through some difficult times in the past, they will get together because they've got a working class ethic about them and there's a great unity there in the city. "I think United gave the city a lift and I think that was what it was about. We're all proud of them, it was a great achievement." The trophy is not the only lift the club gave the city as United and Manchester City pledged £1 million ($1.3m, 1.2m euros) on Thursday to an emergency fund set up for the victims and their families.
