Pravin Tambe, along with the Kolkata Knight Riders team, watched the biopic on his life, which was released on Friday, and were left teary-eyed and extremely emotional by the end. After watching the movie about his journey with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team, leg-spinner Pravin Tambe was overcome with emotion and speechlessness. On Friday, the film Kaun Pravin Tambe? was officially released. Tambe was seen enjoying the movie with the KKR players and staff in a video provided by KKR. Tambe then stood up to say a few words, but his voice became strangled as he tried to form words. He cried as he said, "I just want to say..." The team erupted in cheers as a show of support for the seasoned spinner. After the premiere was over, the star of the night, Tambe, somehow, managed to fight his tears and asked the viewers to stick to their dreams and never think about giving up. He urged everyone to understand and realise the fact that dreams do come true if you manage to stick with them and work on realising them relentlessly. It was emotional, the songs were pleasant, and when he gave his message at the conclusion, he became visibly moved. When the movie ended, there were claps, cheers, whistles, and pats on the back for Pravin Tambe. Many people are aware that he made his acting debut at the age of 41, but many are unaware of his previous accomplishments. People will watch the film and learn about it, and perhaps it will inspire them to never give up, Tambe stated in the video. When he played for them that season, he became the oldest Indian Premier League (IPL) debutant. In 2014, he even scored a hat-trick against KKR. He was purchased by KKR in the IPL 2020 auction, however, his contract was terminated by the BCCI since he participated in a T10 league without the necessary permissions. There have not been many good films about cricket made in the Hindi film industry. You can count on your fingers the number of good films about cricket in India and the latest Disney+ Hotstar offering, Kaun Pravin Tambe? is a welcome addition to that list. The movie is about Pravin Tambe (Shreyas Talpade) whose dream is to play Ranji cricket and has been after the tournament since his 20s, but, somehow, he fails to make the cut each time. At 40 now, Pravin has lost all hope and has been asked to retire and then comes a twist in his life. Who doesn’t love a true underdog story? Director Jayprad Desai treats it like one and to be honest, half of his job was done when he got his hands on such an inspiring story. However, the screenplay could’ve been better. The non-linear plot didn’t make much sense or added value to the narrative. © Disney+ Hotstar Also, I didn’t really like the way Pramabrata Chatterjee’s character was written. He plays a sports journalist in the film and is sort of an antagonist. But, it mostly seemed forced. Since the film wasn’t a big-budget one, it’s commendable how the makers cut corners by filming mostly indoors to avoid spending money on creating the ‘80s & the ‘90s. The editing was pretty good. The cinematography could’ve been better and the VFX was not up to the mark. Despite its shortcomings, Kaun Pravin Tambe? works thanks to the perfect casting of Shreyas Talpade in the lead role. He carries the film on his shoulder and makes sure it reaches the finish line with flying colours. Shreyas, who made his Bollywood debut with a cricket-based film Iqbal, has come full circle with another film about cricket. While the former started his career, let’s hope this one becomes the starting point of his second innings in Bollywood and a glorious one. Prambrata Chatterjee performs his role well and has a good screen presence but his character didn’t add much value to the plot. Ashish Vidyarthi is so good as Pravin’s coach. His scene towards the end in front of a TV screen is what great acting is all about. Anjali Patil is outstanding as Pravin’s supportive wife, however, Arif Zakaria doesn’t get much scope. © Disney+ Hotstar Overall, Kaun Pravin Tambe? is totally worth your time. Last year, a biopic on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar aka Veer Savarkar was announced to be helmed by filmmaker and actor Mahesh Manjrekar. Almost a year later, the makers have now announced Randeep Hooda as the lead star. One user called it a propaganda film like the recently released The Kashmir Files and wrote, “Another propaganda movie after Kashmir Files.” Another wrote, “In the climax scene, Savarkarji ask forgiveness from Britishers will be a mass scene in theatres”. One user questioned the people backing the project and wrote, “Be very wary of this. The ppl in this project are highly suspect. I don’t trust them to do any justice to the subject.” One tweet read, “Terrific! This will ruffle up too many feathers,rattle cages & bring out the sand from sugar. The cricket biopic mania is not over yet! Looks like Kartik Aaryan, too has joined the biopic bandwagon and he wants to play a cricketer as well. Who? A very, very good one. Kartik, who recently saw the release of his Netflix film Dhamaka, was speaking with Bollywood Hungama in an interview when he was asked whose biopic would he be interested in playing.
