  4. The drug scandal involving Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan took another turn today as it was announced that he alongside Arbaaz Merchantt and Munmun Dhamecha had been sent to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) custody till October 7 (Thursday). Under the court hearing for the incident involving the drug raid of the cruise ship, the NCB said that it had found 'incriminating evidence' on Aryan's phone after which the court acted upon extending the custody of Aryan and others. © Twitter Now, we are sure that a lot must have happened in the court, especially after NCB's earlier revelations regarding the number of drugs that they had recovered in the possession of the people on board the cruise ship. However, it is now revealed that, in the statement submitted by lawyer Satish Maneshinde on behalf of Aryan Khan, he himself has leaped to his defense by suggesting that he did not have anything on him, and how it was his close friend who was caught in possession of the said drugs. Aryan said that his bag was searched only to later have nothing in it. “My bag was searched but nothing was found. After some time they took custody of my phone and began interrogating me. Mr. Merchant is a friend of mine. He was found in possession and we were arrested.” he said. It looks like things might actually end up coming down on Arbaaz Merchantt, who is said to be a very dear friend of Aryan and is quite well-acquainted with the inner circle of Bollywood. The NCB had also claimed that they had found specific conversations on Aryan's phone while he was outside India that were linked to drug trafficking. However, Aryan disagrees and even went on to compare the incident to that of Rhea Chakraborty's. © Twitter "Now they say when I (Aryan Khan) was abroad, I have certain conversations on the phone and they want to bust an international drug trafficking racket in the last one year I've gone to my university. In the entire period, I have not indulged in any drug trafficking. Even if the offenses are non-bailable as argued, based on Rhea's case, I am entitled to bail." said Aryan. He later also suggested that he cannot be held responsible for something that he didn't do, meaning that it could all actually be on Arbaaz and others who were caught in possession of the things. "There section 27A was invoked, for financing. If material is seized from other accused, that cannot be foisted on me" the statement read. It looks to be seen how things will unfold from here on, however it sure will be a hard and testing week for Shah Rukh Khan and family. View the full article
  5. Controversy could easily be the middle name of every person in the Bollywood film industry, more so the actors and actresses, who are often judged and kept a close eye on by the fans. From their choice of clothes to their choice of films, everything is scrutinised and most times, it isn’t in a great light. One such actress who was type-caste as soon as she entered the industry was the actress Mallika Sherawat who rose to fame with her hit film Murder. © Vishesh Films The actress recently got candid in an interview and shared that her decision to leave the country for a while came after being bullied by a certain section of the media and press, that would go ahead and describe her as a ‘fallen woman’. Sharing her two cents on how she feels that it is only in the past couple of years that people have grown more tolerant and understanding towards Bollywood films and their content, she shared how it wasn’t so when she started out. View this post on Instagram “There was a lot of judgement, that ‘she has no morals’, ‘she is a fallen woman’, ‘look at the kinds of scenes she does, she wears a bikini, kisses on screen’. But it’s all a part of the experience, and I’m really happy that there has been a lot of growth in society. People have become more tolerant. Today frontal nudity is no big deal…,” Sherawat said. She then went on to disclose that, “A certain section of the media was very… They bullied me and harassed me. And that really bothered me, because… And most of them were women. Men have never had problems with me. Men have always appreciated me. And I couldn’t understand why these women are so against me, and so nasty to me. And that made me leave the country for a while because I wanted a break. But today they are more accepting of me, and they are more loving, which I’m really enjoying.” In fact, only recently the actress shared how a critic in the industry once compared her to a pornstar. She shared, “There was one critic who compared me to a pornstar and said Mallika is a pornstar. I don't have anything against them, it is not a judgement on them(the porn industry). But this is what the critics were writing, this is the low level they dropped into." View this post on Instagram The actress is now set to make her comeback with MX Players’s original series Nakaab where she will be seen playing the role of the dominating and power-hungry ‘Zohar Mehta’. 7. Nora Fatehi is in Canada at the moment and had been sharing regular photos and videos from her trip. Nora grew up in Canada and moved to India to become a Bollywood actress. Recently, she took to Instagram to share videos from her day out with her friends. Many videos showed her dancing while she was driving a car and in one video she was driving towards her friend, and one of her friends told her that she was driving on the wrong side of the road and that this isn’t India. View this post on Instagram Another video showed Nora going to towards her friend’s car with an empty bucket and trying to throw it at her. In the video, she was heard saying,"Disrespect b***h, you know who I am? Open the window," she said, and added, "They think Bollywood changed me, I'm still a hood rat." In another video, Nora was seen throwing water while sitting inside her car at a friend who was standing outside. The friend got back at her by performing the O Saki Saki hook step on the street. View this post on Instagram Nora Fatehi was recently seen in the film Bhuj: The Pride of India and spoke about the difficulty she faced when she first moved to India. She said, "When I reached India, it was nothing like (what I had imagined). I was thinking I'll get picked up by a limousine and a butler, and they're going to take me to a suite, and I would go to my auditions in that limo. It was nothing like that. I had the biggest slap on my face. The bullying, the rejection, the traumatic experience that I went through." View the full article

  9. The fact that food dominates every single area of our lives as Indians (or Asians, if you want me to be more apt here) irrespective of the region we live in or the language we speak, is a no-brainer. I recently lost two of my family members to COVID, and while saying goodbye to them, I had to eat whatever they loved to eat, for 10 days, as a part of the rituals. If that doesn't count as the biggest reminder to what food means to us, I don't know what does. View the full article
  10. Harness the force as a community leader. A long time ago in the Interwebs far, far away... I proudly signed off all my posts and emails with the title: Owner, Administrator. Anyone in a 10-mile digital radius from me was made well aware: I AM AN OWNER AND ADMINISTRATOR. I AM IMPORTANT I PROMISE. I OWN AND ADMINISTRATE!!! Granted I held off on the all-caps, but still. My assertion permeated throughout all areas of my online presence. Though well-intentioned, my identity as an administrator pushed me away from the community I fostered. I focused more on growing the group rather than being part of the group, thus creating an unspoken hierarchy that placed my members below me. Recognizing your members are living, breathing, sentient people is one of the most important aspects of community building, but I couldn’t see the forest from the trees. Part of me enjoyed the authority and power attached to my role as the website’s administrator. But with that power came isolating separation – the dark side if you will. A community I unknowingly built was unrelatable to me because I was unrelatable to them. Is it possible to remove “me” and “them” from the equation entirely and replace it with an “us?” Our community members aren’t naive to the fact that someone does technically own the community, and that part of your role as a community leader is administrating. It’s less about the title and more of the mindset. How can you connect with your community? By being relatable and approachable. Better yet? Leading by example. Become a community leader Shifting your interpersonal narrative from administrator to community leader can profoundly change your community’s culture for the better. As a community leader, you’ll inevitably perform administrative tasks, including the nitty gritty like group promotions, moderating and reputation (all critical functions for a high-functioning community). However, it’s possible to execute said functions while cloaked under anonymity that the administrator title can provide (that’s not necessarily good or bad, it just is). An important component to community leading is visibility. For many years, I made sure my Invision Community software was up-to-date, licenses paid, the registration system worked, spam defense was light-saber slicing the plastic-surgery-gambling bots to Tatooine. I was a fantastic administrator, but my presence from my community, the very place I worked tirelessly to keep running, was sorely missed. The moment I went “all-in,” meaning I decided to become an integral part of my community outside of the administrator role (by commenting on members’ topics, responding back in private message group chats, reacting to content, listening to feedback and opening up about real-life success and failures) is the moment I evolved into a community leader. I wanted to be seen. My deliberate change of self perception produced exponential growth in terms of traffic and new registrations. More importantly, I became a better community leader. I feel compelled to not only share pop music news with my community, but also what’s going on in my life. It wasn’t a comfortable transition, but a necessary one. Upon stripping away my title from administrator to community leader, I became a role model. I became someone my members came to for more than just technical forum advice. They wanted to see how I was doing. They wanted to share their wins and losses with me after seeing me succeed and fail in public. They saw me as a person; a leader. At the end of the day, community leading means forging connections, sharing your highs and lows and showing up for your members. That starts from within, which may feel incredibly awkward at first, but get comfortable with discomfort and watch you and your community blossom. Thoughts on transforming from administrator to Jedi community leader? Sound off in the comments! And may the +1 be with you.

  12. Have you ever wondered how sparkling wine is brewed? Or how Rosé could be different from Red Wine? Ever thought about what it's like to go to wine tastings and experience different wines, fresh from the barrels? How long do you reckon would it take to get drunk on these little sips of wine that you keep taking every 5 minutes? I got to experience exactly that last week. © MensXP/Simran Arora Grover Zampa Vineyards unveiled a new centre for wine tastings and sales at their winery in Bangalore last week, and I got to visit them and experience wine tasting for the first time. © MensXP/Simran Arora From my experience, the tour was very different from how I had imagined it. I mean, I had pictured the tasting bit right, but not the endless but breathtaking vineyards or the ginormous stainless steel barrels that take up most of the space, of what would normally be an average seating hall with the height of two floors. © MensXP/Simran Arora And barrels that give the aesthetics of vintage films I'd seen growing up. © MensXP/Simran Arora There were also enormous sorting machines and crushing machines imported from countries like Germany, promising maximum efficiency in the initial stages of berry sorting and crushing, all the factors that are necessary for the production of good wine. © MensXP/Simran Arora The tour guide informed us that the harvesting time is crucial in determining the kind of wine it'll produce. For example, berries picked from old vines that aren't ripe yet, make for the most premium of vines if aged properly, while the ripest of berries make for a good dessert wine batch. © MensXP/Simran Arora A dessert wine is a kind of sweet wine usually paired with desserts, but a good sommelier ( a wine waiter/steward) will tell you that the high sugar content in a dessert wine comes from the ripe berries and can sometimes go up to 133 grams per litre, which as a number can be intimidating and I agree. However, at the right temperature in Summer evenings, it could be a refreshing sip and also a wonderful choice to get initiated with, if you want to start exploring wines because it's easy to get adjusted to it and even enjoy the drink. © MensXP/Simran Arora In a masterclass with Sonal Holland, she pressed on the importance of pairing dessert wines with anything and everything that isn't sweet because the dessert wine, in all its glory, has been quite underestimated. The Vendanges Tardives (my favourite amongst the lot) a new launch of Grover Zampa Vineyards, is a sweet wine. There is a long-standing analogy of the similar taste notes of dessert wines and gulab jamun, but unlike gulab jamun, the Vendanges Tardives doesn't stay put on the palate and it clears itself, as Sonal Holland notably pointed out. The dry wines take an experienced palate to appreciate, and while you may brush this off quickly, because I too consume wine occasionally and feel I know it all, a brand of wine like La Reserve Royale Brut, which is fermented in barrels and aged for more than 30 months at a go and has intricate notes of lemon zest, flowers, fresh hazelnuts and brioche, can only be dissected to the T by an experienced connoisseur. On the palate, the wine is elegant and you can see tiny persistent bubbles when you swirl it in your glass, something that Sonal Holland made us notice. In all honesty, after learning the minute details, I started to put more emphasis on my sips. But here's how I learned to sniff wine: you near the cup to your nose and sniff with the utmost concentration and then finally take a tiny sip that has to be gargled and taken in. The interesting part is that you can even sniff wine through its cork. Checking things like acidity also has a similar process of swirling it around the glass and gargling but also has the addition of leaning forward and checking for a tingling sensation at the back of your throat which signifies acidity. And here's an interesting thing I learnt from Sonal Holland's masterclass: acidity to white wine is like cheese to pizza. A fellow Sommelier, Kriti Malhotra talked about how in the workshops that she conducts, she likes to take her attendees to a world of familiarity to explore the unfamiliar notes of the wine. For example, she said, "a wine high on MLF, also known as a malolactic conversion, would have an aroma akin to your mother boiling milk in the kitchen". It would also have a "buttery taste" which on careful observation of more than three sips, I could sense and very excitedly confirmed that it did, in fact, have a milky tinge to it. Similarly, notes of citrus are sometimes mingled with vanilla and the barrel of wine it is aged in, in this wine's case, it was Oakwood. Finally, we were made to taste the Grover Zampa's most premium label 'Insignia', which is fermented in French oak barrels for 24 months which is equivalent to the ageing of average champagne production, this intensifies the richness of Shiraz grapes from a single vineyard. Insignia is a dry wine that leaves a trail of fruit-berries, coffee and chocolate, with a hint of black pepper that blends into a smooth finish. A wine like that is made to be aged even after being bought and needs someone well-initiated to appreciate its nuances, which is probably why I think if I would've had a developed palate like the connoisseurs around me, I would've learned to appreciate it better. And that's the thing about wine in general, while it's not everyone's cup of tea, I've learned that in order to enjoy a good glass of wine, you need it to be at the right temperature, you need an experienced palate and a couple of swirls before taking a sip. And those are exactly all the things I'm beginning to enjoy after this illuminating experience.
  13. The 2019 Asian Championships have been the true testament of pure grit and the will to do anything to bring home the greatest honour any athlete can give to their country while sticking to their game, the gold medal. The inflow of medals through the tournament have also made these athletes finally get an opportunity to share and discuss their struggles and inspirational stories to motivate their fellow countrymen to do great things. We have had people like Gomathi Marimuthu, who, under extreme poverty and with absolutely no aid from the government, was able to bag the Asian championship gold medal in the 800-m race, only on the basis of her father's unconditional support and her own conviction. And now, there's the story of Arti Arun, a power-lifter who continues to work as a dental surgeon through the day in order to support her career as an athlete. Representing India on the biggest platforms all over the world, bringing home the gold and even spending more than a lakh of rupees from her own pocket for the same, has brought no support to her from the government. On Monday, according to an ANI tweet, Arun slammed the governing authorities for letting her down because of the lack of support she got from her political representatives even after she did something so honourable and prestigious for her nation. Arti Arun, Dental Surgeon&Power-lifter: After winning gold medal in Asian Power-lifting Championship in Hong Kong. I felt let down, I represented India, haven't been appreciated for it. Spent around Rs 1,50,000* from my earnings. Haven't got any support from govt. #TamilNadu https://t.co/GrLkw2v3tf — ANI (@ANI) May 6, 2019 Arun also raised some very important and heartbreaking concerns about the future of athletes like power-lifters in India. Arti Arun, Dental Surgeon & Power-lifter from Chennai: How long can I continue to spend so much? So many power-lifters go unrecognised. #TamilNadu pic.twitter.com/lX6a1ARjgo — ANI (@ANI) May 6, 2019 Why is it that only after a sportsperson has accomplished something that they finally get the opportunity to ask for support, financially or otherwise? Imagine how humiliating and demotivating it must feel to be celebrated for achieving brilliance in a sport in one country and being treated as a useless tool in your own. How can you expect more and more medals in every Asian Championships, every Commonwealth games and every Olympics when the initial commitment is not made to the athletes, to promote their desire to win, to support their dreams and turn them into reality?

  17. DUBAI: Peshawar Zalmi skipper Darren Sammy said on Monday that as he has been in Pakistan for a few times, the country is no stranger to him. Before leaving for Lahore to play the Eliminator against Quetta Gladiators, The Windies all-rounder in an interview said: "We are going to play a knockout match. Every match is a knockout from now on. I am looking forward to stepping in out Gaddafi Stadium with my team and will try to step further in the competition. I and my overseas boys are coming." Responding to a question, that he has felt 'special and proud' for getting love from Pakistani fans. "We should also mention Chris Jordan, Andrew Fletcher, Riki Wessels, Liam Dawson; we all are making the trip. I am asking all the fans to support good cricket and Yellow Storm," he said. The skipper expressed his hope that his team will play PSL final in Karachi. Zalmi will play against Sarfraz Ahmed-led Gladiators on March 20 at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium. The winner of the match will qualify to play the Eliminator against Karachi Kings to play final against Islamabad United.
  18. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has claimed that former party member and lawmaker Ayesha Gulalai "was paid" to accuse him of harassment and sending her "inappropriate messages". Imran made the statement in response to a question regarding Gulalai, a Member of the National Assembly who quit the PTI in early August after levelling allegations of harassment and corruption against the party chief. "She has been paid for that," Imran told the Sunday Times Magazine's Ben Judah in an interview published on Sunday. "You see what I have to put up with?" he said, accusing his enemies of smearing him with 'Fake News'?one of a handful of similarities the British journalist used in the interview to compare the former-cricketer-turned-politician to US President Donald Trump. Imran loathes Donald Trump but it is "hard not to compare the two", the journalist wrote, adding: "Khan, like Trump, emerged from the moneyed elite, riding high on a personality cult, purporting to be the voice of every forgotten man, railing against effete liberals and the corruption and nepotism of the political class. And just like Trump, this ageing, hair-obsessed star is accused of sexual harassment." Imran not to respond to Reham?s malicious statements: Awn Chaudhry Awn Chaudhry while turning down the allegations by Reham Khan, said that the PTI chief respects women However, despite similarities with the US president, during the interview Imran raised questions over Pakistan's support in the US-led 'war on terror' and criticised drone strikes on Pakistani soil that Trump has continued after taking over the US presidency. "American drone strikes in Pakistan must stop. It's butchery, and the true horror of it is hidden from the West," he said. The article also described Imran as a politician the Taliban "would like to see installed as the country's next leader". 'Not a strategy guy' In the article, Judah said he questioned Imran about his promises to "bring the China model to Pakistan? to fight poverty, but was unable to get a reasonable explanation from him. "We have a lot to learn from what they did with industry," Imran said in reply to the question. He said the three main points of his overall plan for Pakistan were "a sovereign foreign policy", "an Islamic welfare state" and "the China model". Wonder how SC declared Imran Sadiq and Ameen: Reham Khan Reham said her sources had confirmed that Imran had remarried When asked if he could give any details, Judah wrote that Imran's eyes "just glazed over". As part of the profile interview, Judah said he also met with Asad Umar, PTI vice-president and Imran's close aide, who admitted to the journalist that the party chairperson was "not great in this department". "He's not a strategy guy, let's put it that way," Asad Umar told the reporter. "He has never been in an institution, and doesn't know how to work in an institutional setting."
  19. As a 20-something skinny-fat survivor of the globe, I've always had insecurities about apparel fits. Much like those gunned, hefty chest-pull hulks, I've always yearned for the feeling of glove-like clothing. I'm skinny and most things just look really strange on me. That said, the only time I slipped into something that actually fit me like a glove, was my first-ever pair of slim-fit jeans. Ones, I was called out for, and for over a year that followed next. Apparently they made me look 'gay', girly, and nothing but manly. But where did I go wrong—I was completely perplexed. All until I realised (as part of my life's style ed cherry pop), buying well-fitted jeans (and not skinny fitted jeans) really take a #MasterClass to master. Plus, slim-fit is one thing and skinny, another. You may spend hours and sweat liters of trying-on effort in the trial room and yet, you'd end up with a pair that's (at least) a little baggy. Buying well-fitted jeans is that hard. It's all about knowing how denim falls on your body. © Viral Bhayani Point being: actor and now easily, owner of a Doctorate Degree in Denim Buying, Gurmeet Choudhary's jeans just recently triggered my insecurities (again). If I may, this is clearly the most well-fitted sight I've seen in a while. © Viral Bhayani But, while you may see this as the case of a celebrity stylist super power, brace yourselves—it isn't. While flying into Mumbai from an unidentified location, we're dead sure, you're not going to find celeb stylists offering services on board. As a denim wearer all his life, Gurmeet has clearly now aced the concept of buying. We're taking the liberty, and declaring Mr. Choudhary as a the Narendra Modi of Denim Bhaarat. And he's clearly in his achhe din. © Viral Bhayani Let's not forget, even the sweatshirt the actor has paired with the jeans here is quite the fitted excellence itself. Nothing loose, nothing slouchy, just fitting him in all the right corners. He's far, far away from landing himself somewhere in the middle—an area none of us should ever be in. Or more importantly, an area of dowdy fits Gurmeet Choudhary is miles away from.
