  2. SS Rajamouli’s RRR has reportedly collected over Rs 900 crore at the worldwide box office and out of which it has made an unthinkable $12.5 million in the US alone. However, out of $12.5 million, the film collected $9 million plus in its opening weekend itself. Which means the SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus suffered a huge decline in its collection in the second weekend. However, that was still enough for the Telugu grand spectacle to take down Bollywood at the US box office. © DVV Entertainment The film has now earned more than any Bollywood film in the history of the US box office. That’s not all! It is now also the second highest grossing Indian film at the US box office behind SS Rajamouli’s previous release Baahubali 2: The Conclusion that went on to collect over Rs 1800 crore in its lifetime run globally in 2017. Sharing the box office collection of the film in the US, trade analyst Gitesh Pandya wrote, “Indian blockbuster #RRR tumbles 83% in 2nd wknd in North America to about $1.6M pushing cume to $12.5M. Has still grossed more than any Bollywood film in US history & will finish as #2 Tollywood film all-time behind #Baahubali2, also from director #SSRajamouli. #RRRMovie #Telugu”. © ARKA Media Works Check out his tweet below: Indian blockbuster #RRR tumbles 83% in 2nd wknd in North America to about $1.6M pushing cume to $12.5M. 3. Bowling a dot ball in the shortest format of the game is considered to be gold dust. It doesn’t matter how skillful a bowler is, he is always behind the eight ball with batters looking to smack him all over the park. The dot balls can still be achieved, if a bowler sticks to his game plan and bowls according to the set field. However, what’s not easy is bowling six dot balls on the trot. It’s a herculean task for any bowler. Records tell us that bowling a maiden over is more difficult than picking up a wicket. View this post on Instagram In the last 15 years, only 120 bowlers have managed to bowl a maiden over in the IPL. Given the fact that hundreds of players have graced this league since its inception in 2008, it’s a pretty small number. If we filter it out to include bowlers who have bowled more than one over in their IPL career, the number drops down to 61, almost half of the original figure, which tells how difficult of a task it is. View this post on Instagram The reason why I am giving you all this ‘gyaan’ is to make you understand how brilliant Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) medium pacer Harshal Patel was the other night during their game against last year’s finalists Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Patel, who was the biggest revelation for RCB last year, was bought for a whopping Rs 10.75 crore in the mega auction and his performance against KKR showed why the franchise were so hell-bent on acquiring his services. View this post on Instagram The Sanand-born, who plays domestic cricket for Haryana, justified his price tag on Wednesday, returning an impressive figures of 2/11 from his four overs. Bowling in the middle phase of KKR innings, the 31-year-old bowled not one but two maiden overs which dried up the runs and forced them to play expansive shots which led to their downfall. Bowling two maiden overs in a single match is a rare achievement in IPL. So rare that before Harshal, this was only achieved once in the last 15 years. Incidentally, the first bowler who achieved this huge feat was also a RCB pacer. View this post on Instagram Siraj had scripted history against KKR during IPL 2020. His bowling figures on the night read four overs, two maidens, eight runs, and three wickets. Coming back to Harshal, it was a brilliant turnaround for the RCB star who had leaked 36 runs in their previous match which they lost to Punjab Kings while defending 205 runs. With his spell he announced himself for the first time this season and increased the hopes of RCB fans. The supporters flocked the micro-blogging site and praised his outstanding bowling display. The reason why the RCB fans were pumped was because he achieved this bowling against one of the most destructive batters in world cricket – Andre Russell. 6. India defeated the West Indies by 44 runs in the second ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium to seal the three-match series with a game to play on Wednesday. After losing the toss and being put in to bat, the Indian batters failed to get going and the visitors managed to restrict the hosts at 237 for nine in their allotted 50 overs. Chasing 238 to level the series, the West Indies got off to a sedate start but Prasidh Krishna produced a magical spell that rattled the visitors. #TeamIndia win the second @Paytm #INDvWI ODI & take an unassailable lead in the series. wickets for @prasidh43 wickets for @imShard wicket each for @mdsirajofficial, @yuzi_chahal, @Sundarwashi5 & @HoodaOnFire Scorecard https://t.co/yqSjTw302p pic.twitter.com/bPb1ca9H7P — BCCI (@BCCI) February 9, 2022 Krishna took four wickets and conceded just 12 runs in his nine-over spell to help India get over the line. Great series win pic.twitter.com/2fHqp3CZCw — Yuzvendra Chahal (@yuzi_chahal) February 9, 2022 However, the star of the show for India was Prasidh Krishna who was simply a nightmare for the visitors. He kept testing the West Indies batters and bowled one of the most economical spells you will see in the 50-over format. It was great to see Rohit having a go at one of the senior members of the team as it indicates that even if you have over 100 international wickets in the format, if you are not showing the right intent, you will get an earful from the skipper. 7. India are set to take on the West Indies in the second ODI in Ahmedabad on Wednesday with an eye on securing the three-match series after taking a 1-0 lead on Sunday. India had outclassed the West Indies by six wickets in the series opener thanks to exceptional performances from Yuzvendra Chahal and Rohit Sharma. Chahal picked up four wickets for 49 and was the pick of the bowlers at the Narendra Modi Stadium where the pitch assisted spinners. India had opted to go with Washington Sundar as the second spin bowler in the playing XI and he too did well with the ball, picking up three wickets for 30 runs. Rohit has already backed Yuzvendra Chahal and the new India white-ball captain made his intentions clear that going forward the team is banking on the leg spinner to deliver in big matches. And it feels like Kuldeep too needs similar support from the team management and captain. View the full article

Hello & good morning from Mumbai for the second @Paytm #INDvNZ Test! #TeamIndia pic.twitter.com/Pvkm9F2WbG — BCCI (@BCCI) December 3, 2021 There were some reports that suggested that the Indian team management was not in favour of dropping vice-captain Rahane and was instead thinking about sacrificing specialist opener Mayank Agarwal to accommodate the Mumbai batter. According to the BCCI, Ishant dislocated his left little finger, Jadeja injured his right forearm while Rahane sustained a minor left hamstring strain. © Twitter/BCCI The BCCI’s media statement further added that all three players suffered injuries at different stages during the Kanpur Test and were not able to recover on time to be considered for the series-decider. “Fast bowler Ishant Sharma dislocated his left little finger during the final day of the 1st Test match in Kanpur. He is thus ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai. The BCCI Medical team will continue to monitor his progress,” the BCCI stated in its media statement. Since he has not recovered completely, he has been ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai. His progress will be closely monitored by the BCCI Medical team,” it added. View this post on Instagram Among all three injury omissions, Jadeja’s news came as a big surprise to the Indian supporters because not many had anticipated him missing such a crucial match. Ishant’s injury didn’t evoke much reaction on social media but Rahane’s omission gave air to a lot of chatter on the micro-blogging site, with people arguing whether he was really injured or it was just a ploy to cover up for his poor form. © Reuters A majority of the supporters felt that it was just an excuse because the team management had no other option and they didn’t want to give the impression that they were dropping one of their senior players owing to his struggles with the bat. Even former Indian opener Aakash Chopra felt that the team management finds it more convenient to rule a player out with injury than saying he was dropped due to poor form. “It’s kinda convenient,” Chopra tweeted. It’s kinda convenient… — Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) December 3, 2021 After the announcement, the Indian board became a butt of jokes on social media. Even Kohli who addressed the reporters on the eve of the match didn’t mention anything about the injury. The only update he gave was about Wriddhiman Saha, who couldn’t keep wickets for the majority of the Kanpur Test due to a neck spasm, was available for selection. Rather than waiting till the last moment, had the team management announced it much earlier they would have avoided being mocked like this on the social networking sites. If they are listening, our only advice to them would be to bring more transparency into their decision-making and learn how to call a spade a spade and not beat around the bush. View the full article

He was supposed to open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma in England but got injured at the last time and Rahul came in as his replacement and grabbed the opportunity with both hands, making the spot his own. The poor lad was not given a long rope unlike some of the senior pros Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara who, just like him, are also struggling to score runs on a consistent basis but their place in the side seems secure based on their past accolades. So Mayank will be the bakra pic.twitter.com/217oleEqae — Guru (@okguru123) November 29, 2021 Many fans are not happy with this kind of double-standard within the group, where there is no set criteria for the selection and exclusion of a player and everything lacks transparency. Some of the disappointed fans even argued that Agarwal was paying the price because he didn’t belong to the ‘Mumbai Lobby’ unlike Rahane who, despite his miserable run, seems to have more well-wishers. Why will they always drop Mayank Agarwal, after just giving 1 match ? Just coz not frm Mumbai lobby ? #INDvsNZ @doddaganesha — Vidhwan ವಿಧ್ವಾನ್ (@Vidhwan7) December 1, 2021Backing wagare kuch nahi hotta, it's just selective quota, favouritism works everywhere — poojasalve (@pooja_2012) December 1, 2021No, Mayank Agarwal you're not some generational team man, you're not going to get another opportunity in this series. Unfortunately, you're not Rahane. You've to perform every single test to prove your worth. You can't even miss a single opportunity. Now, since you're going + — Shivani Shukla (@iShivani_Shukla) December 1, 2021Well, like we all expected. Too harsh on Mayank. — Aditya Saha (@Adityakrsaha) December 1, 2021Well, like we all expected. Too harsh on Mayank. — Aditya Saha (@Adityakrsaha) December 1, 2021What's wrong with our management. Backing Rahane after consecutive failures but dropping Mayank. — Positive Entropy (@EntropyPositive) December 1, 2021It's not fair. He's injure before the eng series.. So kl played on his opening spot. This series kl injured.. Mayank opened for 1 match, now they're dropping.. — Attend (@________39965) December 1, 2021Even some of the former players like Zaheer Khan and Aakash Chopra believe that given his dream debut there is no way Shreyas Iyer can be left out of the starting XI and the only possible option is dropping an opener in the form of Agarwal. “The middle-order headache for this Test has come after Iyer’s fantastic debut performance. Iyer made good use of his opportunity. Virat Kohli is sure to come in, so there needs to be space made in the middle-order,” Zaheer said on Cricbuzz. “I think there is a bit more pressure on Pujara and that is not entirely performance-based. Have seen in previous instances that often an opener gets dropped. They might go in a direction and ask whether Pujara can open in these conditions, but there is no denying that there needs to be some shuffling. “Iyer should definitely play, there is absolutely no question about it. They either have to drop an opener or drop either one of Pujara or Rahane,” he added. View this post on Instagram No doubt you want your openers to score more runs, especially in Indian conditions but the main problem for Team India is not the opening slot but the struggles of middle-order because two players who opened the innings in Kanpur are not even the first-choice openers. Imagine you visit a doctor to treat your hand but he ends up treating your leg instead. This is exactly what the Indian fans would be feeling if the Indian management indeed dropped Agarwal to accommodate Kohli and save Rahane. View this post on Instagram Normally players compete against only those who play at similar positions but now they have to outshine the whole team in order to secure their place because you never know what new logic the new management could come up with. 14. Ever since Neeraj Chopra won the historic gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, his popularity has sky-rocketed to a whole new level, with brands lining up at his door to make him their brand ambassador. The 23-year-old javelin thrower from Panipat, Haryana has become the new poster boy of Indian sports and more than 80 brands have already shown interest in striking a deal with him. However, the association isn’t going to come cheap anymore as Neeraj’s brand value has gone through the roof, rising by an unprecedented 1000 per cent. © Reuters As per reports, Neeraj used to charge somewhere in the region of 15-20 lakhs per advertisement before the Tokyo Olympics. However, things have changed significantly since then as Neeraj is now expected to cost 10-times more than he did before. Neeraj’s throw of 87.58m was one of the biggest glory moments in Indian sporting history. It was India’s first Olympic gold medal in athletics and only the second individual gold medal in the history of the quadrennial event. © Reuters After his historic performance, Neeraj has entered the league of top athletes in the country in terms of his endorsement fee. In fact, Neeraj is expected to charge around Rs 2.5 crore for each endorsement, which makes him the second-highest paid athlete in the country only behind Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, who makes in the region of Rs 1-5 crore for each advertisement. “While we have requests from close to 80 brands, Neeraj has a limited number of free days between training camps in India and abroad over the next 12-14 months, so we have to be selective about signing on brands. These are multi-year deals which will run up to the Paris Olympics,” Mustafa Ghouse, chief executive of JSW Sports, told Economic Times. © Reuters What Neeraj has been able to achieve both on and off the field is great news for Indian sports. He has done what many top cricketers failed to do, challenge Kohli’s hegemony. In a cricket-mad nation like India, it’s refreshing to see a track and field athlete challenging the hegemony of top cricketers, both in terms of brand value and popularity. It also shows that people are ready to look beyond cricket but for that we need many more athletes to excel at the international stage and make the whole nation proud like the way Neeraj did in Tokyo. © Reuters Not just Neeraj, weightlifter Meerabai Chanu, badminton star PV Sindhu, wrestlers like Ravi Dahiya and Bajrang Punia captured the imagination of the country with their outstanding performances at Tokyo 2020. © Reuters They proved that there is no dearth of talent in this country and it is possible for athletes, other than cricketers, to look their opponents in the eye and even come out on top. But for that, the athletes need our love and support throughout their journey, just like how we always root for our cricketers whether they win or lose. View the full article
